big_kev Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 I bet you are glad its under warranty... Quote
gregers Posted November 30, 2007 Report Posted November 30, 2007 its nothing to do with the warranty, when i bought the car i notified them of the problem within the ist 28 days of ownership, thus the sale of goods act comes into play, hence i threatened them with rejection of the car(so i think)this still applys,so this is comming out of the dealers pocket and not the warranty companies pocket, everything they have done to the car theyve sorted (eventually)out,THINK ITS BEGINING TO REALLY PI55 THEM OFF,but as the saying goes FACE,F...KING BOVERD er no!!!!!! big_kev Posted December 1, 2007 Report Posted December 1, 2007 Lets hope they don't knacker anything else while they fix it. My experience of Dealers is not good in this respect. Quote
gregers Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 HOO BLOODY RAH AND ABOUT SODDING TIME received a phone call from the dealer yesterday to say the new heater was in and to arrange the fitting of the unit,it went in today,NICE BRAND NEW UNIT UNDERNEATH :16: made sure the unit worked before driving away from the dealers, lovely jet engine sound and no smoke :D ,after about 10 mins the temp gauge went up to 90 even had to turn the heating down was getting to hot inside :( something that hasnt happened before because as soon as the temp gauge showed 90 and i turned the heating on the gauge dropped off, so as i have know idea how these things are meant to work(so many threads conflicting replys)as i pulled up at home this evening the gauge was showing 90 turned the engine off and the heater was still running, now is the reason for it to continue to run because its a spanking new unit or is there a fault somewhere?????? Quote
NikpV Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 ours will run on for a minute or so before shutting down (at least the fan is running- making sure it doesnt overheat) Quote
gregers Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 nik i thought that once the coolant had heated up enough(iirc 75 degrees)then the unit would shut down????so if the ambient temperature is below 10 degrees then the unit runs constantly??????is that correct?. Quote
sanjsanj Posted December 18, 2007 Report Posted December 18, 2007 it will run constantly until either the ambient temperature exceeds 10 degrees or the coolant temperature exceeds 75 degrees Quote
marinabrid Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 is the run on noise you here after switching off ,,the actual water run on pump,, rather than the booster heater itself, this runs a while after switching off to circulate coolant. Quote
blagger1 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 I read this thread with interest cos, you guessed it, aux heater not kicking in! So, question no1 - if there is a fuse, is it with the other fuses next to the steering wheel, and if so, what number is it? Question no 2 - what does the temp sensor look like? (will take off the plastic wiper cover thingy later and bridge the connections to see if it will fire up) Question no 3 - is VAG COM a fault reader thingy? Do I need to have one if I decide to replace the glow plug in order to reset the fault? Cheers fellas. This forum's ace. Already used it when replacing my front brakes for the first time and also when replacing a track rod end. Saved me a fortune by giving me the confidence to do it myself. Hoping I can sort this aux heater out myself too! BTW the car's a 2002 Seat Alhambra 1.9 TDI SE. Quote
mumof4 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 Answer to Q3, yes its a fault code reader thingymebob. It will need resetting if a flameout happens a few times as the Aux heater will then be locked out? but if just replaceing the GP, then it should be ok. Quote
blagger1 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) Thanks for that mumof4. Took the cover off the wipers and found nowt  Could it be somewhere else on my model? Edited December 19, 2007 by blagger1 Quote
sanjsanj Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) nope, it should be there, just dig a little deeper. it's quite hard to see as it's tucked away quite close the the wiper armature, directly in line with the battery Edited December 19, 2007 by sanjsanj Quote
marinabrid Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 as someone else discovered, some 02 model have the sensor fitted lower down behind the front fog light, no where near the wiper linkage Quote
blagger1 Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 What does it look like? Big, small, square, round, black, white? Quote
gregers Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 my missus timed it today and said it stopped after approx 1 minute,so thanx for the replys guys, OH WAS I A HAPPY BUNNY THIS MORNING,thick frost on the car and within a few minutes i had HEAT in the car, halfway to work had to turn the heater down coz the car was bloody hot, amazing how much it heats the car up,before it took an absolute age to get any warm air blowing in the car. Quote
Ivor_E_Tower Posted December 19, 2007 Report Posted December 19, 2007 My booster heater isn't working this year. I get a nice cloud of white smoke each morning when I start the car up, but the aux heater fails to cut in. Do money to throw at getting it fixed, no confidence in a dealer to sort it, and I don't really miss it. So, it will stay broken for a while yet Quote
marinabrid Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 sorry dont know what it looks like . some one mentioned it a short while ago , it may be worth trawling back thru this or the previous long thread to find the answer. id have though it similar to the wiper link one, a small round silver sensor , size of your thumb end, clipped in a bracket with two wire con block on it. kmabo Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 does the aux heater at rear of car still run when ignition is turned off. i have been told it does by ford dealers....this heater carries on for about 1 min after ignition turn off. thanks for ony input Quote
NikpV Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 that seems normal although I suspect its just the fan running to cool the unit down Quote
kmabo Posted December 20, 2007 Report Posted December 20, 2007 thank you NicpV, this has been worrying me, cos i thought the noise was abnormal. Quote
blagger1 Posted January 3, 2008 Report Posted January 3, 2008 My new glowplug arrived this morning so I'll be replacing it tomorrow probably. For those who want to know it was on ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...A:IT&ih=017 ) and cost me Quote
