mumof4 Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 Dont forget gregers,,how many long journeys did i go on??mmm????????I had my baby down to a T..knew how to get the best mpg out of her. Quote
neiluk Posted July 20, 2007 Report Posted July 20, 2007 If I drive I try get about 20mpg average on the way too/from work. It is only 2 miles and the car doesn't really have time to warm up. Usually between 18 and 22mpg average then depending on traffic. I get upto about 35mpg on a quiet 60ish mph cruise dropping to about 32 at 70mph. Where does your LPG tank sit Mikej? Does it affect load flexability at all? I think you might be the closest Forum member to me :-) . I've been to the B+Q Warehouse/ASDA's many times. Neil. Quote
mikej Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 Hi Neil at present the bus is fitted with the biggest tank i could safely fit , 77 litres although you can only fill it to approx 60 litre due to safety regs , this is fitted in place of the spare wheel and slung outside under the rear . I have a rather expensive bike rack bolted to my towbar so i have modded the tow bar bracket to accomodate the filler also rather than drilling any holes in the bodywork . I have a very large dog in the back most days so the rear two seats are out in the garage . At present the spare is in the rear but is standing up and secured to the rear of one of the seats with two straps this is the easiest option if you want to carry a spare , its well secure and the seats can still be used without any probs its also takes up next to no room at all . I suppose you could always carry a can of mousse if you didn't want the spare. Quote
big_kev Posted July 21, 2007 Report Posted July 21, 2007 LPG running costs as good as aTDI your avin a laugh !  :D i have a 2001 2.3 twin cam running on a sequential gas system, show me a diesel that can match my mpg i think not. I laugh at them all at the pumps petrols and the smelly oil burners LPG can be had for as little as 33p/litre although it averages 40p . miles cheaper than the smelly diesel more reliable and far far less bloody trouble as far as i'm concerned you should all be running gas especially you dirty dirty diesel people. Hmmm........LPG average 40p per litre average 4 MPL = 10p per mile .............Diesel average 95p per litre average 10MPL = 9.5p per mile Hmmm...... Is it just me or is there a smell of something in the air ? Quote
Guest Rockdoctor Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 ...and for those of us in the south - I think if you have an LPG tank fitted you aren't allowed to use the Chunnel (my preferred way of crossing the channel), so that rules it out for me. Quote
mikej Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 Big Kev please explain , i seem to be missing something myself  Quote
mikej Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 Rockdoctor how is it it cannot be used in the chunnel , this is a professional fully certified installation and i was looking to maybe use the chunnel later this year looks like i maybe on the slow boat instead then ? Quote
seatkid Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 I think big kev is just referring (in colloquial terms) to the LPG gang declaring unilateral victory in the economy stakes without taking a good look at the facts. From what I have seen, the galaxy as a motor vehile has one of the largest benefits mpg wise when you choose a diesel over petrol. In fact the diesel Galaxy can often match the economy of much smaller cars. (I average 55mpg - my little Skoda Fabia 1.2 petrol averages 44mpg) Manufacturers have not been convinced by the LPG arguement desite the considerable investment by the petrol companies. I also still think it is unwise (as do all car manufacturers) to stick a fuel tank behind the rear axle - never mind the spare wheel conundrum. Quote

El Dingo Posted July 22, 2007 Report Posted July 22, 2007 (edited) Good grief - I totally agree with SK for once... TBH, if it's only the fuel costs that are your concern, trade the 2.3 in and buy a diesel. Edited July 22, 2007 by El Dingo Quote
