mumof4 Posted June 17, 2007 Author Report Posted June 17, 2007 i dunno..its documents and settings all users application...as per post#2...i dont even know what a swap file is! Quote
big_kev Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 The red block will always be there as it cannot be defragmented by defrag. However hopefully pagedefrag will have defragmented it. Does the defrag report state how defragmented this file is ? p.s notice the use of two frag's in every sentence perhaps these need defragged also. Quote
mumof4 Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 pagedefrag did not defrag it..as i did pagedefrag..then ran defragg..but it was still fragmented. 162 fragments. ha..5 in one sentance..beat that,! LMAO. Quote
big_kev Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Although defrag can defragment most files there are some fragmented files that will remain and will need a different fragmentation utility, other than defrag, the most popular of which is pagedefrag. 6 Quote
mumof4 Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 But,,,i used pagedefrag as my defragmentor didnt defrag the fragmented files so even though pagedefrag is the most popular, it didnt defrag the fragmented files so now i need to know why the fragmented files which havent been fragmented before, wont defragment! 10. mumof4 Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 Oh my word.........when i ran defrag after pagedefrag....it was still there..i defragged this morn it was there..just now finished defragging..and its gone!! VolumeC.txt Quote
MadBaz Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 You cant defrag the swap/paging file whilst its in use, you need software which will defrag whilst the drive is unmounted, I havent used pagedefrag, is there (like diskkeeper) a facility on it to defrag the page file (at boot up) and set the mft? Quote
mumof4 Posted June 18, 2007 Author Report Posted June 18, 2007 pagedefrag defrags on boot up..and i set it to defrag at every boot up.now even after doing this a few times it was still there when i defragged this morn..but after defragging this eve it had defragged the fragmented section!!..now why has this happened now?i havent done anything diff.As far as i know it wasnt the swap files.....as ive never had that red block come up before.... big_kev Posted June 18, 2007 Report Posted June 18, 2007 Ah ! The mystery of windows. Try running process monitor ( from previous link ). See how much carp is going on in the background. While I typed this windows performed 34,378 processes in the background. Quote
tiny Posted July 8, 2007 Report Posted July 8, 2007 Try using Raxco Perfect Disk 8, the guy that I get system parts from swears by it. An unscrupulous person might even be tempted to find it on a torrent site (Not me though-honest :D ) Quote
Stevieweevie Posted March 29, 2008 Report Posted March 29, 2008 The best defragger is JkDefrag. It's free, constantly updated, very fast, uses little system resource, and is configurable if you are that way inclined. I played about with a lot of the defraggers including paid ones, and I found this is the best, http://www.kessels.com/JkDefrag/ Quote
