As you can see from previous threads - a replacement engine has left me with no clocks - speedo, rev, temp or fuel. Everyone that's looked at it concludes it's the clock unit itself that's been killed (probably by a booster). I have ordered a replacement from 'Drof' in London, and assumed that I could just change the unit, and the info would update from the ECU ?? but reading other threads here, this isn't the case ? what will I have to do ?? wow - snowed under by all the replies (the jokes get more replies than i do !!). You'll be all glad to know that the second instrument cluster did pretty much the same as the first - naff all. cheers anyway.

Don't know too much about this, are all your fuses okay. Sounds as though you've lost a power supply to the dash - I know with older types of dash inserts there was a voltage regulator actually fitted to the insert to keep the voltage constant, but with an ECU I would have thought the outputs are straight from that.

Maybe your ECU has been damaged. If you changed the clock unit that rules out a voltage regulator theory.

Do you have TIS cd?

Hang on in there, there are plenty of people with loads of knowledge, just not logged in all the while.

Can't you take it back to the people who changed your engine, I would have thought they'd be liable.

Could be a wiring loom and plugs on/around the engine!

The instrument cluster should be a straight swap, assuming they are like for like, all the info is saved by the ecu. This may be a bit obvious but check all fuses (including the ones under the bonnet), are the multiplugs connected at the cluster (usually mor than 1) and ECU and on the engine? Is there any illumination in the cluster when lights/ign are switched on? do any warning lights come on? Is there any power at the cluster multiplug?

Have you had it connected to Vag-com?

thanks guys. the crooks who put the engine in are undoubtedly liable, but they reject liability as another garage took the engine out - so of course they're blaming them (and vice versa).

I still have warning lights and indicators etc. on the dash, so there's still 12v coming in - although the ABS light is very dim, and the oil light generally flickers in a strange way ! I have a suspicion there's an earth problem somewhere, but I'm no expert unfortunately.

Anyone know anyone who wants a nice P/X galaxy with no clocks ??
