bob1234 Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) Hi all, I have just bought an S reg 2.3GLX Auto from a dodgy bloke in Peterborough (not that it makes a difference where he is from!). The air bag warning light is stuck permanently on and I asked him to sort it before I bought it. He said that after taking it to a garage it was going to cost him too much and so I negotiated another 150 quid off the price. He did say that the Ford garage said the fault was a 'sensor under the drivers seat'. What I need to know is if this is feasible or not and what is the sensor called/how do I change it etc? I've had a look around this site and it mentions a lot of clock spring failures but it doesn't sound like this is what I've got. (If the guy is telling the truth). Also if I ever get around to fixing it is there a cheap way of resetting the air bag warning light myself or not? Oh, and is this car a MKI or MKII? I hope someone out there can help! Cheers, Bob. broom broom Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 s reg is a Mk1 can't help with the air bag issue but am sure someone will be along soon that can Quote
Bigjeeze Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 It does sound like the clock spring - this isn't difficult to change but you will need to remove the steering wheel. The Haynes manual tells you how to do the complete op on MK1. I am not sure about the link to the box of tricks under the seat - Thats usually affects the central locking and windows - but I am not certain. Good luck. Quote
MadBaz Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Sounds like clock spring (most probably), or the airbag has been rmoved at some point whilst the battery has been connected (possible) will need resetting via rds2000, or the airbag has been deployed and is missing (unlikely). the sensor iirc is built into the airbag module. The only thing under PASSENGER seat is c/l module and a fuel shut off device, there may be relays if you have heated seats but nowt to do with airbag. Quote
tdi90 Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 Our Gal had the same thing when we picked it up. Airbag light on all the time. Turned out to be the clock spring and was fixed under warrenty. Quote
rushy Posted May 8, 2007 Report Posted May 8, 2007 My Gal (96 VR6) has the same issue with the airbag light. I was told (by a friend and VW Technician) that it came on because I once jump started a mates car off the Gal, and did something wrong (pos lead before neg, or vise versa) which has caused this fault. Is this still the same Clock spring problem or something else? I do know that airbags need checking after 10 years or so, and my Gal comes into that age bracket. Quote
bob1234 Posted May 9, 2007 Author Report Posted May 9, 2007 I'm gona take the air bag gubins out and see if this clock spring is faulty. I haven't got a Haynes manual but I have reserved one at my local library for the bargain basement price of 50p! If it turns out to be faulty I'll replace and then ask a Ford dealer to reset the air bag warning light. Quote
