dab1hand2 Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I'VE GOT A P REG 2.0 DOHC GALAXY AND WHEN I'M DRIVING THROUGH TOWN THE TEMP GAUGE NEEDLE DOESN'T GO ABOVE 1/4 AND OUT OF TOWN IT BARELY MOVES OFF COLD - IS THIS LIKEY TO BE A THEMOSTAT PROBLEM? Quote
MadBaz Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 I've found mine doesn't go past the M in TEMP on the gauge, the fan starts up just as it gets there, yours should be roughly the same, run it on idle without heater on and after about 12-15 mins or so the fan should start and the needle should be around the E or M on the gauge Quote
dab1hand2 Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 IT WAS OK TILL YESTERDAY - WHEN WE WENT ON A LONG RUN AND AFTER DRIVING FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES I REALISED THE NEEDLE WAS STILL ON COLD I TURNED THE HEATER TO HOT AND THE FAN TO FULL BUT THE AIR WAS ONLY JUST WARM. I TRIED THIS TODAY - I RAN THE ENGINE FOR ABOUT 20 MINS AND THE HIGHEST THE NEEDLE GOT WAS BETWEEN THE 'N' AND 'O' OF NORM ON THE TEMP GAUGE AND THE FAN CAME ON. THE HEATER WAS HOT BUT WHEN I WENT FOR A DRIVE THE GAUGE WENT BACK TO COLD AND SO DID THE HEATER. Quote
decappo Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 are you sure that you have water in the system?? btw your shift key is stuck  decappo Quote
big_kev Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 Sounds like something is badly wrong.I thought the 2 litre's ran red hot....I could almost light a fag of the dashboard in mine. Sounds like faulty thermostat or lack of water. Quote
dab1hand2 Posted May 6, 2007 Author Report Posted May 6, 2007 sorry about the caps lock - yes there is deffinatly water in the header tank cos it was half way between the min and max - i even stuck my finger in there to make sure. could the cooling system need bleeding? is the thermostat easy to change? where abouts is it? Quote
gregers Posted May 6, 2007 Report Posted May 6, 2007 do a search on thermostat im sure this has been covered numerous times. Quote
dab1hand2 Posted May 7, 2007 Author Report Posted May 7, 2007 I changed the thermostat today and it works great the temp gauge goes to between 'N' and 'O' and stays there even sat in traffic it doesn't get any higher and the heater gets red hot - so problem solved. Quote
