Hi,

I've just had a "Major Service" done on my Galaxy at the Doncaster Branch of Ford. Prior to having the service done, I rang Ringways , on two occasions, to confirm the price and the exact work that would be carried out.

A nice lady at the other end of the phone said" Oil,Oil Filter,Pollen Filter,Fuel Filter and Spark Plugs will all require changing on the major service sir. That will be

I'm a little worried about how much oil they've put in your gal, you don't say which engine you have, I hope its the 2.8.

these are the capacities with an oil filter change as quoted on Fords TIS cd

1.9tdi ........4.31 (3.8)

2.0............4.25 (4.0)

2.3 ...........4.0 .(3.75)

2.8 ...........5.5 .(5.0)

Figures in brackets are without an oil filter change.

as far as the service or lack of, I'd be kicking and screaming and I'd be on the phone to trading standards. In my opinion a contract took place when you booked the car in, they offered the service for

Hi,

Thx for the reply. My Gal is a 2.8, so at least the amount of oil was right.I wasn't too sure whether I'd entered into a contract or not. Wot do you suggest I ask them to do before I phone Trading Standards? Any ideas welcome before I ring them on Wednesday morning,

Cheers

Whenever you buy goods or services you enter into a contract of sale whether verbal/written, in this case they offered servicing for

Main dealers have absolutely no idea whatsoever when it comes to servicing the Galaxy, very little and out of date training for any new staff coming into the job apparently. This leads to some major errors when basic fault finding and servicing on the Gals. Combined air filter and pollen filter !!!! :)

DO NOT USE MAIN DEALERS, DIY !!

I was told that the pollen filter was out of stock and he would get me one for next week( hasn't mentioned cost yet!) and the air filter is not used as the pollen filter does both jobs!

I missed this thread when it started, but that's disgraceful.

By reducing the bill, it seems to me that they are admitting that they have failed to carry out the work booked. Personally, I would have insisted on the work agreed being carried out for the sum agreed, less some compensation for having to return for the completion of the work (and the damn cheek of the service manager for telling you bare faced lies).

Unfortunately a lot of dealers/garages/servicing outlets are the same.

An expensive service stamp - which - technically - is fraudulent as a main service was not carried out. Not only was the pollen filter, air filter and spark plugs not changed, you can assume they didn't carry out any inspection jobs (a long list on the service sheet) including safety critical brake examination and fluid checks. A main service should also have the mandatory diagnostic check, not forgetting the windscreen washer topup!

I would have refused to pay and insisted on talking directly to the dealer principal. I would be prepared to threaten to report them to trading standards/Ford etc, at which point they might probably drop into damage limitation mode and give you the full service (rebooked of course) FOC - with evidence.

It stinks though, doesn't it. How many people are being worked over like this? :)

Unfortunately it seems reasonably common, the service history for ours said its been changed 5 times in its life yet when I pulled the thing out it still had the 03 date stamp on it

I never use garages unless I really have to but fortunately in our case the local ford dealer is truely outstanding.
