Looks good, what camera did you get ? I recently bought myself a Nikon D40, very impressed with it.

i got the canon 400d, an up grade from my old 300d

how do you find yours

looked at the canon 350 but found it a bit small for my hands so ended up with a nikon D50 since I didnt have any lenses from slr film days (was minolta but sold then all)

i found the 400d smaller than the 300d,something to get used too,

by time you add a bigger lens and external flash gun the can start to get bit heavy, esp doing marco work

other lens i got

kit lens

sigma 28-105 dg macro lens,

canon 28-90mm better than std lens goes that bit futher

flashgun 420ex

what other lens do you have with your nikon

the fish shot was taken under t5 flouescent tubes,

i have three marine tanks, so plenty of subject to take pic of ,

fairly hard cos the glass,

i bought the sigma macro, amazing some of the shots, bee ,butterflys ,etc but doesnt have very good dof

next bit of kit, once the car moted, of shoe cord and some flashgun brackts.

did you do the moon shot with the 200?

good shots those - liked the first and last,

yes moon with the 200 - + cropped

dof field is always problem with macro shots  whatever the lens

Posted (edited)

the second shot was the hardest, trying to focus just on the eye,

dof macro with 3 extensions, now thats fun...

I find the Nikon D40 superb, exceeds my expectations as the image quality and overall useability is outstanding. As digital SLR cameras go they just seem to get better and better month on month. You can now buy an amateur digital SLR which can produce professional quality images for sub 500 quid.

I got me a samsung digimax a4 and its crap but good enough for point and click, sorry.

Rockkeeper, on the subject of fishes and risking a thread hijack (nice piccys by the way), how easy is it to maintain a tropical marine tank and are there any pitfalls?

I've got a tropical freshwater 3ft community tank and am looking for something different now but I don't want to do cichlids, I think 3ft would do to start with live coral and anenoemes and some smaller species of fish. I do have a fluval external filter, what else would I need?

Thanks in advance, Brian

Thanks Rockkeeper, I'm definately going to give it a go, local fish shop will give me a credit note for existing fish and they have a good marine stock.

I usually go to Transcontinental at Galpharm stadium or koi carp centre in brighouse, both have been doing marine for about three years now, i think I'll have a gander at the one in Osset though.

Thinking about starting with some live rock and/or coral and introduce a pair of captive bred 'nemo's' to keep the kids happy. I've heard that anenoemes can be hard to keep esp for a novice marine aquarist.

I've only got a 36/18/12 tank so atm I can't be too extravagant. I'm trying to talk the missus into letting me get a 48" Rena panoramic, very nice tank but got mot soon so we'll see.
