mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 Doing some work on the gal today..amongst other things like sorting the speakers out..i want to have a look under the car front passenger side as the passenger footwell floor is not flat it bulges upwards which i am assumeing has happened when its been jacked up...id like to know exactly what it is i will be looking at once i go under and how i will recognise any damage that has been caused.. any pics would be great... thanks peeps.. maz xx Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 oops..just broke the front drivers side speaker grill!! Quote
Biscuit Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) Hiyaassuming it is where the car has been jacked up,you should see as you say a "bulge"but i would look closer for any cracks or other damage. or it could be caused by excessive unessasary mileage!!!! lol Edited February 3, 2007 by BISCUIT Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 thanks for that biscuit....will have a gander in a sec.. managd to get the door card off the drivers side...i managed to do it without breaking any yellow clips!!..i loosened off the outer side..then with a bit of force..i lifted the door card off the other clips!!..sooo..technically..you can slide the door card up and off..but carefully.!! speaker seems securely fitted...so i cant understand why its rattling... one diff to this door and the rear passenger side door..is that the drivers door has a foamy grey panel on it..moisture guard is it? Guest wolfie Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) one diff to this door and the rear passenger side door..is that the drivers door has a foamy grey panel on it..moisture guard is it? 5 vapour barrier, with out it, it's possible for any water that makes it past the glass/door seal to enter the car via the door card! ruining the door in the process! make sure the drain holes in the bottom of the door are clear? Edited February 3, 2007 by wolfie Quote
Biscuit Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 no the foamy grey panel is a noise 'deadener'if you know what i mean Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 ok..only one problem with sliding the ruddy thing off some off the clips..and having some still in the door card..is getting the ruddy thing back on!! Quote
Dave-G Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 (edited) MO4 - the trick is to get them all out of the door and put them in the door card before replacing it. you then snap them back in with a small thump with the heel of your hand - or the side of a clenched fist. As for the 'Bulge... compare it to the other side of the car - should be a mirror image apart from pipework etc Edited February 3, 2007 by Dave-G Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 Umm..i have a small problem..put the door card back on...have a feeling i need to take it off again for the third time!!(dropped a screw before )..the inner lock/unlock is not working..just clicking....all other doors lock when useing the inside switch... off i go again!! (drivers side is the one that dont work by the way..) Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 seriously need help here peeps...when useing the inner door lock...the drivers side one clicks..can hear the motor..all other ones lock then unlock themselves..... HELP!! have checked wiring..all seems ok..everything looks ok...havent looked behind that grey stuff though.. Quote
NikpV Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 have you disturbed touched the cable release from the catch to the lock ?? Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 i have no idea..where is it and what does it look like? Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 the inner handle drivers side is stuck half way in..so its neither flush with the door as in when you shut the door..nor is it in..as when you use the inner lock...im foobed at the mo..i have looked behind the grey stuff and can see nothing amiss.... Quote
NikpV Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 guessing based on other cars - usually a black 4/5 mm diameter cable running from the door lever (operates the door from the inside) and the locking mechanism - its mechanical like the cables that operate bicycle brakes with a thin stell wire sliding inside it.. Quote
NikpV Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 are you saying the lever is not in the correct position or that the surround (which holds the lever) hasn't gone back flush with he door card Quote
NikpV Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 ok I'm a post behind here all the time  with the door card off and the handle free does the lever return to its normal position?? -- Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 no..the handle wont go flush..even with door card on and everything connected.....it keeps clicking.....but all other doors lock then unlock themselves... Quote
Guest wolfie Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 but what happens with the door card off? if the handle in question is sticking half way? the central locking ECU is getting conflicting info and will not lock the other doors! as it thinks you want to open the drivers doors which in turn sends a signal to say open all other doors you could be there all day trying to lock the doors! remove the door card and see what happens? if the handel moves freely then its not located/lined up correctly or the locking mech in that door has jammed? or the loom is shorting out? Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 fixed...gawd what a nightmare......managed to see the cable you were on about nik in the little black bit,,with door card off..it moved freely..no idea what i did..but i fixed it...the cable wasnt moving very much........i followed the cable with my fingers..fiddled a bit..i heard a click...put it all back together, then it was fine..no idea....thanks to you all for your help..very much appreciated... as for under the car..will look tomorrow....i thought i was doing the easiest job first..how wrong could i have been....i did take sum pics....but i really need to warm up.lol.. thank you.. maz xxx Quote
NikpV Posted February 3, 2007 Report Posted February 3, 2007 the external part of the cable was probably caught up on its housing - fiddling allowed it to slip back so releasing the tension on the inner wire and lever  Quote
mumof4 Posted February 3, 2007 Author Report Posted February 3, 2007 Thanks nik..never want to go through this again!! had problems getting the middle screw in its hole so i used a piece of sellotape doubled over and stuck that on the top of the screw then pushed the screwdriver into it so it would stick.then i got it in ok. neiluk Posted May 7, 2007 Report Posted May 7, 2007 I have a bulge in the drivers floor in-front of the seat. I assumed this was normal. I'm not so sure now  Neil. Quote
MadBaz Posted May 9, 2007 Report Posted May 9, 2007 I've got one on passenger side, bit worried, is this from misuse of trolley jacks? There is no corresponding dent in the box frame underneath the car, but its in the right place for where I position the jack. Quote
Eugen Posted May 15, 2007 Report Posted May 15, 2007 Hello ,My 1996 Galaxy has a similar problem on the driver side .The 'jacking' explanation is clear non-sense . If you look underneath the chassis it soon becomes clear that it is simply impossible - because of the huge box sections of the chassis .I think that the bulging is due to rusting between the box section of the chassis and the sheet metal floor . The rust expand the metal etc...I don't think it is particularly serious - given the substantial size of the chassis box section - but then I could be completely wrong :-) Quote
