FamilyWagon Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Some little ***** decided to key the bonnet and driver side rear passenger door on my usualy shiny Gal. Does anyone know of any mobile body work repair companies that are any good and preferably those that cover South Wales. Or any advice on what to ask them, what is involved and how much I should expect to be quoted would be appreciated. Cheers in advance. Quote
mumof4 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Crumbs......sorry to hear this..are they deep scratches?..and is it metallic paint? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 try here m8 they are really good do all of the uk too and sorry 2 hear about the marks..j Quote
FamilyWagon Posted January 8, 2007 Author Report Posted January 8, 2007 Yes the scratches are reasonably deep and the paint colour is Machine Silver Metalic Quote
mumof4 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 From what i remember about my course..metallic is harder to respray to an exact match..and they usually have to spray the whole panel.... .....might be diff with a lighter colour..but i know they have to with darker colours as stands out more. Do hope it gets sorted. Quote
chromedome Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 Unfortunately with metallic paint you have to spray a complete panel to get a good finish. In your case could be whole bonnet and bottom or top half of the door. This of course starts getting expensive. Have you got protected no claims on your insurance? Quote
Guest gooner52 Posted January 8, 2007 Report Posted January 8, 2007 as chromedome says..would be likely the whole bonnetand the botton section of the door, with surrounding areas cut in mine is machine silver had a of work done to mine Quote
NikpV Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 expect you won't get much change out of Quote
broom broom Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 am gettin him to respray my puma he's doing the whole car except the room and treating the rust on the rear arch and door sills for Quote
tim-spam Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 Mine is a dark metallic, and when I had my rear bumper repaired by Chips Away, he did the job in my drive, and after filling the deep scratches only resprayed the corner area where the forklift truck had scraped it. The match was perfect, although I suppose a large flatish panel may be a little different. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted January 9, 2007 Report Posted January 9, 2007 sorry to hear that, if you catch them you should be allowed to scratch their paint work (i mean skin here) as punishment. cat of 9 tails! but...my mums bran new Toyota aygo was only a month old when a merc scraped the rear right side of the car. its black metallic, and was simply touched up - looks as good as new. never the same tho...cos you know it happened  MJR Quote

FamilyWagon Posted January 12, 2007 Author Report Posted January 12, 2007 Well I have had one lot of mobile paint repairs...or whatever they are called...to have a look and he said that I would be better off taking it to a body shop...personally I can't see how some African Swamp Mud Face Mask and some Peppermint Foot Lotion is going to help...but thats what he suggested  He said that the entire bonnet would need spraying for a good finish and that it would be better/cost effective to get the door done at the same time. So unless anyone has any other suggestions, I guess I am going to have to sell one of my kidneys...I was saving that for my daughters Uni fund too  I just cant figure out what would posses someone to key a car, but if I get my hands on who ever did it...they are going to need a surgeon to retrieve their keys!!! mikeohope Posted March 10, 2007 Report Posted March 10, 2007 I wouldnt let chips away any where near a valued car. They totally messed up my mondeo and had to get it done by pro body shop. Some of these chips away guys have no more than a months training and they use substandard paint. Quote
