Guest mikey45 Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Hi all, Just joined (was previously a member of the citroen picasso forum but needed a bigger car). My coil light is flashing on the dashboard but the car is running fine. I've purchased one of the VAG-COM kits off ebay. Could one of you kind people enlighten me as to where the connecting socket is on the car please? It is a 2001 1.9 TDI Galaxy Zetec. Many thanks and Happy Xmas :) Quote

Jimbo73 Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 Were would you get the software to use with the lead. Is the software easy to use, and wht sort of things is it good for? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 24, 2006 Report Posted December 24, 2006 you can get a free shareware version, downloaded here i cant play with the software until iv got my lead, but it looks simple enough (mind you, i do computer science!) or you can pay a lot of money for the "full" version, which will allow you to do a few extra things. have a read of that website :D MJR Quote

Many thanks and Happy Xmas :) located around the fuse box & the socket looks like this: http://www.serviceengineer.utvinternet.com/images/seat-conn.jpg the falshing COIL coudl mean that the brake switch is burnt out. Does the cruise control work? If not that too would implys the switch is defective. Quote
jkspoff Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 Excuse my ignorance on VAG com, but if I invested in one of these leads what would it enable me to do ? I know its been covered previously, but in a nutshell. With the downloaded shareware and my laptop with the lead is that all I need ? :) Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 ...i got my lead, and software. had trouble getting it to work, after an hour of messin about, turned out the COM port was set wrong. on the VAG COM software, it said COM 4 was working correctly - and was the lead. however - go into device manager, and i found the lead was on COM9 -- changed it to COM1 (only one available) and set VAGCOM to COM1 - and suddenly it all started working. note - i found the engine has to be running for you to access the booster heater. jkspoff Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 What have you done with your booster heater through VAG com ? Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 ...all i have done so far - is read the fault codes, i got 5 "glow plug - open circuit" faults. iv got a new glow plug off ebay, and will fit it sometime soon, then re-set the codes. iv also got 1 fault on the auto-gearbox - module memory error? and some other faults im not bothered about. Alhambra Posted December 30, 2006 Report Posted December 30, 2006 note - i found the engine has to be running for you to access the booster heater. MJR good tip, thanks BTW there is a link in the FAQ section for the free 3.11 & 4.01 s/w for those that maybe be looking for it. Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted December 31, 2006 Report Posted December 31, 2006 jkspoff - with the shareware version, you can access all car modules, and can change some settings - for example, the parking sensors - you can change the pitch or the volume of both speakers individually. - i think you can also adjust the sensors (if you upgrade the software), you can view all sorts of live information from the engine - while it is running. like....which glow plugs are on, if anyboost pressureMAF readingsFuel quantitiesinjection timingrevsthrottle positionetc etc you can even get 3 of any of these to be plotted on a map - although my map keeps crashing for some reason. iv even accessed the cruise control module to see if it was switched on, it indicates "255" which IIRC means on - although our galaxy does not have "cruise control" - not yet anyway. another less accurate note - because im unsure about this - is always set the VAGCOM to avoid your air-bags, there Quote
34laxy Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 MATT jr & Alhambra, Did you have any problems fitting the serial cable to the serial port in the Galaxy? I have just received my cable from a US supplier, bought on ebay, and the two small flnages at the top of the socket, see Alhambras picture few replies above, are preventing the socket fitting to the port. It appears that the plastic socket protecting the pins is slightly too small for the two flanges. The socket has the OBD11 ref on it and there are two rows of eight pins either side of a central flange that match the port.I m thinking of getting stanley knife out to cut away some material but any replies before I ruin the cable would be helpful. thanks :( 2002 Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi 115 with lots of faults Quote
Guest MATT jr Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 could you post a picture of your lead - specifically the connector. these leads are a tight fit - but i wouldn't modify it just yet - or try and force it in. MJR Quote
34laxy Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 MJR thanks for your reply. Hopefully an image of the serial socket connection should appear. 34laxy 2002 Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi 115 Quote
MadBaz Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 That looks like the connector for the mk1 galaxy, which connects under the ashcan. soz mate Quote
34laxy Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 How different is the socket for he MkII ? Is it just the shroud around the pins or the pins themselves that are different? A visual check looks like he pins and their set out is the same as the plug on the Galaxy. 34laxy Quote
MadBaz Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 Actually its not much different and would probably fit a mk1 too, I think my car needs a good valet!!! sorry I opened gob before brain. Quote
jkspoff Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 I've totally given up with my lead I bought off ebay, I tried for hours to get the VAG COM software to see the lead, but it just won't. Its the USB type. When I plug it into the port on the Galaxy it glows the red LED, but computer does not recognise it as being anything but a serial port adaptor. It'll have to go back on ebay, unless anyone on here wants to buy it and try it ? Quote
roly1977 Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 i got one off ebay arrived today wasn't as straight forward to get working but got there in the end looks really good so just got the registered version http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...4883&rd=1,1 Quote
34laxy Posted February 8, 2007 Report Posted February 8, 2007 roly1977, From your ebay link I see you bought the same lead as I did. Refering to my earlier post above did you find it difficult to fit to the lead to the galaxy end? 34laxy Quote
roly1977 Posted February 9, 2007 Report Posted February 9, 2007 it was a little tight but went in had no problems so far even came with a disk was simple to install  Quote
