Could get dtc codes read IIRC connection on maf should be 0.5V at tickover and 1.5V at 3000rpm Quote

NikpV Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 what wires did they solder? temperature sensor u/s telling ecu to keep overfuelling when engine has warmed up ? Quote
tiny Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 I think someone had a similar problem that turned out to be the secondary air pump. Looky Here! Quote
davey1825 Posted December 16, 2006 Report Posted December 16, 2006 hi, as far as i am aware the secondary air pump only works for about 2mins when the engine is 1st started from cold, it is used to make the exhaust gases hotter on cold start up to make the warm-up time of the Cat quicker. I have known people to take these off altogether (don't ask me why) so i would be surprised if this alone would fail an MOT. Yours Big Daves Quote
m4rkb Posted January 3, 2007 Author Report Posted January 3, 2007 HAPPY NEW YEARHi m4rkbs misses again!!! ;) Still no car as the emissions are still way out. (3.38) I have had the wires on the Lambda checked and the air flow meter tested. New garage says Air Pump may need changing and that only Galaxys have these???!! Can anyone shed any light as I am hacked off, and I really need my car before we run out of food and the kids eat me!!!Many Thanksm4rkbs misses ;) Galaxy 2.0 Ghia Ptrol '96 Quote
tiny Posted January 3, 2007 Report Posted January 3, 2007 Follow the link in my earlier post and you will find someone who had a similar problem Do you hear a whine from the engine compartment for the first 2 mins after starting from cold?If not the pump may be seized. I dont know how it not working would affect the emissions once the engine is warm, but it seems to have been the problem in the earlier post. Quote
MadBaz Posted January 4, 2007 Report Posted January 4, 2007 even if the pump does work, the valve, between the pump and the engine, often fails due to the high temperatures it is exposed to. there is a tsb on tis about replacing the valve/hose but the ecu needs reprogramming. Quote
