forgt all the patches & stuff

if you want to give up smoking ony you can

i done it for 4 yrs then starting going to rugger with my boys &

some onf the other fathers there smoked & offerd me ciggys but i kept saying no for about 5 month

then gave in

i only smoke about 10 (or a cigar instead of a ciggy) a week & that's when i'm having a pint .

if feel that if i want 1 i'll have 1 & if not then i won't

it's all down to will power to be honest &

for you the person to want to give up &

not give it up for someone else as that way you got someone to

blame when you fail but to decide yourself is the way to go

that's my opinion

all the best to all you guys & gals trying to give it up &

to you who have given it up

Very well done mate.

There are unlikely to be many men weaker willed than me when it comes to addictions - but I stopped 3 years ago - and spent the savings on hire purchase of my Galaxy.

You are over the worst now.

thanks folks - for no reason it has been particularly difficult this evening which is what made me think of this post :-)

I will be joining you soon as the new workplace policy comes out, I got to ensure I have quit before then or its a long walk for a cancer stick when I want one,,

I would have normally said I cannot give up smoking as I am not a quitter, but this one is needed and being forced in a way

Keep it up nik

I've been given up 4 years now and there are still times when I think I would like one. I've had the odd one when drinking but soon put it out after the first drag. The thought of having one is a nice thought, the act of having it soon removes any pleasant perception of how nice it would be to have one!!

Keep up the good work Nik!

Cheers for the encouragement......

Gteuk - it was partly a change in work policy which influenced my final descision to give up (that and the emotional blackmail from my 6 year old daughter) - what I found was that instead of worrying about when I could next pop off site for a ciggy I managed to get much more done - the school kids hate it though cos I now keep the little b*ggers in at lunch and break cos I've nothing better to do then.

Neil - can you let me have a copy of your calculator - I know you offered before but I didn't want to temp fate

I got to the stage where I was using strong pipe tobacco in roll ups and one day they started taking X-rays and retiring into a corner and muttering. I've not touched one since and that was 20 odd years ago.

It's a bit drastic but, God, it worked. It's the only thing that did.

What's more, I feel fitter now than I did then and I'm half as old again than I was then.

Whatever it takes to keep focussed - do it, imagine it, but stick with it and good luck.

When you get to the stage when you really believe that people who smoke are prats, you've won.
