  1. Did you know there is a recall on some vehicles with dmf? Contact your dealer to see if applies to your vehicle. If it does, negotiate a refund. Recall: No. 6 of 9 Recall Ref: R/2006/034 Exact Model: Description: Flywheel may fail VIN: Build Date: Numbers: 7301 Defect: The dual mass flywheel could fail in such a way that the friction pad and spring break through the duel mass flywheel housing. This could cause rough running, noise and vibration and in extreme cases could result in transmission damage and localised burning of the engine under shield insulation. Action: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and renew the dual mass flywheel and clutch assembly. Launch Date: 25 April 2006
  2. He doesn't like his passenger...... :)
  3. ....and again.....in english?.... ;)
  4. .....warped head.....
  5. Not sure but Ithink it should have 0.95kg if its a standard system, or 1.35kg if its a dual system (with rear roof vents - pretty rare)- or at least thats the quantity on a Mk1. The quantities are printed on a big label next to the bonnet latch...... To eliminate pollen filter woes, switch to recirculate - the pollen filter is then not in the air path.
  6. 12v 1.2W PCB mount bulb to BS286T
  7. Diesels don't have idle control valves.
  8. Maybe the SATNAV will help...... its not entirely true that only grumpy old men drive alhambras.......slowly.....
  9. Faulty radiator fan thermo switch or wiring thereto, its probably a two stage device (slow/fast) and the slow contact is u/s. Slow speed comes on when you turn on a/c by default via a seperate circuit.
  10. Its for driving underwater. ;) theme from Jaws in background.....
  11. Puts record on turntable....."We're almost there......we're almost....." :D I'm surprised you got a free regas, as leak finding is not their responsibilty. Were they willing to do it without arguement? You surely meant foolproof not idiot proof. Thats why I like to look over the shoulder and offer little tidbits of advice in these situations. Quite difficult for Seatkid to do without annoying people as I'm sure you will all testify to. You earned my admiration for your perserverence... you deserve to win this one........ btw.....are you sure about 550g?....mine is 950g, single evaporator but then its a diesel.
  12. Check the wiring to/from the main lighting switch, left and right sidelights are independent circuits to this switch (I know this as its possible to have one side come on before the other if you turn the switch very slowly). Either a wire is adrift or the switch has failed. Another thing to check is whether right/left sidelights come on with the indicator stalk operated with ignition off.
  13. Because obviously women drive slower then men.....
  14. No. For the technically minded among our readers..... the output of an alternator is via 6 diodes arranged in a star 3 phase configuration. Therefore to get a short between the output and ground you would require two of the diodes on opposite side of the bridge to fail short circuit. This is highly unlikely. Measuring with an ohmeter would, depending on the meter show open circuit in one direction and medium "resistance" to open circuit in the other direction - this depends on the meter and the voltage it uses to measure "resistance". Translation for plebs.... "You can't measure an alternators health with an ohmeter..." There are two common electrical failure modes for alternators, both as a result of the inbuilt regulator failing. Depending on which slip ring brush wears out first. In one instance, it fails so you get little or no output from the alternator. In the other, and a remote possibilty here, is it fails so that the alternator loses regulation and wacks out maxiumum output current all the time, you will know this is the case when all your lights get very bright and the battery gets very hot and starts to boil, possibly leading to thermal runaway, a disastrous situation where the battery will literally explode. :D OLA - measure the disconnected battery voltage (after the battery has been stood a while) - if it is less than 11.0 volts, one of the cells has failed (probably short circuit). This will have led to overheating of the poorly assembled fusebox connections as the alternator attempted to charge it up with 120amps. BTW the fuse link is rated at 150amps, in practice it will pass 300 amps for several seconds before popping. Those connections should not get hot even at 300 amps.....its a manufacturing defect, either the crimps are poorly executed or the bolts were not tight enough. Probably the crimps are faulty if you ask me, so you may need new leads to avoid this happening again.
  15. how about an Allegro or Mini Metro? That'll give your kid some street cred......
  16. Water and/or corrosion in electronic wiper control module located on the wiper motor. It is possible to strip this down and carefully clean with PCB (Brake) cleaner and a toothbrush. (Good job as a replacement costs
  17. You should always use oil that meets the manufacturers specification - in this case its VW Spec 500.00 (synthethic) or 501.01 (plain multigrade) IMO Castrol GTX is made from melted down pig's lard so is best avoided
  18. Ahem........don't try to do resistance measurements on the main supply, I will not be held responsible for fried swedish meatballs! Ola needs to.... 1. disconnect battery and discard. 2.Remove fuse box, inspect cables and their connections to fuse box for damage and condition (along entire length), clean connections thoroughly..if they are badly burnt get new cables/connections. 3. Install new fuse box ensure connections are made up tight and sound. 4. Install new battery, connect positive terminal only temporarily while keeping an eye on the fuse box. If there is evidence of a large current drain, or the fuse box gets hot, remove battery connection immediately, disconnect alternator and try again. (I doubt this will be necessary) 5. Connect a VOLTMETER to the battery, start the car and check the battery voltage - should be between 14 volts and 14.6 volts. A lot more and the alternator could be faulty. A lot less and you probably have an electrical problem in the wiring. Don't drive away until you're happy everything is OK.
  19. That's just nonsense.....so go buy an old car for
  20. ...err...they probably pressed the clutch pedal......bang! Clutch cables have a habit of doing that........ I think he got a phone call...... Its nothing to do with the garage....I'm sure they would like Bleeno's business.....its the AA who's blocking the claim. A shagged clutch / clutch cable is fair wear and tear, even if Bleeno's kids drive like grandad  :D Hormonal rage will not help in this case....even if you are prepared to kiss the inspectors ass...... :D
  21. Nah....remember its a "Rover"! (a.k.a. dog poo...) Bleeno....you're wasting your time.......the clutch cable was probably on its last legs and could be the reason for the apparent gearbox problems (it wasn't disengaging properly) or your clutch release bearing is/was sticking, causing all the problems youve had. Haynes manual......molegrips....hammer..... Change the clutch and release bearing......it'll at least get you out of the house :D
  22. 3 questions actually.. The answer is yes, yes and yes.
  23. Is that a statement or a plea for help?
  24. I have personally been involved in a near head on collision and believe me, you're thankful for every safety device a car has! You shouldn't consider messing about with the airbags at all. Its an essential safety item, just as the seat belts are. Yes, the passenger airbag can be disabled via diagnostics....but do you really want to? If you do then you must stick a prominent sticker on the dash "Passenger airbag deactivated". - I wouldnt want to travel in THAT seat. Imagine the ramifications if you have an accident - your passenger (or their family) may sue you and will the insurance pay out?- or will your injured child forgive you for this? And are you really sure that the airbag is disabled? A lot of new cars have a switch to disable the passenger airbag - however they also have a prominent indicator on the dash that shows the airbag is disabled. If you care about your kids, put them in the back.
