:) I can't believe anyone would ask such a question and expect an answer..... You could try asking in a pub on the wrong side of town..... or drive up to Liverpool, park anywhere, leave door open and someone will demonstrate how its done in next to no time.... :P

Dashboard Lights

Is it not a spring-lock connection or is that a mk I thing? You would need the VW tool rather than the ford tool mentioned in earlier posts. Eurocarparts cat no. 245 77 0270 perhaps... You put the tool on and press it to release the springlok and pull.....I think :D

Sounds like faulty pressure switch. Anyone one know if its a single unit (3 way Hi-Normal-Lo) or two switches on a MkII? -

Some of the latest versions of diesel engines both in the new MkIII (Ford) Galaxy/SMax and the MkII (VW/Seat) Sharabangs are fitted with DPF's - Diesel Particulate Filters. These are likely to be standard fit to many diesel engines once Euro V becomes compulsory. This advice from the AA warns about the "regeneration process" - where the soot trapped is burnt off. If you're driving pattern is light, or you driving mainly round town, theres a good chance that the "regeneration process" will not occur as its supposed to, leading to early demise of the DPF which costs ~

How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy

Plus, when things get short, you can fry up some chips on the lpg gas cooker using some veggie oil - but don't forget to throw it back in the tank afterwards! -
I recently read a post on HJ site (regarding 1.9 vs 2.0 VAG engines) claiming to be from a VAG tech. Claimed latest engines (2.0) suffer a lot from heads cracking into inlet ports and going porous. Said that first signs were mysterious loss of water and rough starting. Claimed all VAG diesels 1.9 and 2.0 - particularly high powered variants were "on the limit" regarding head design. I wonder if this is what we have been seeing here with some members overheating problems while towing or after remaps?

Well done, and thankyou for an exemplary conclusion! :(

You could always try and repair it yourself - see here for an illustrated guide.

Most probable cause is loss of gas due to a leak - which may be slow and has been happening over a long period - or has happened fast due to damage usually a stone in the condensor (radiator at front of car). If you take it to be topped up , the machine they use will usually tell you if the leak is serious or not. Kwikfit have a

Stinky Clutch - Now Coil Light On!
seatkid replied to bus_boy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Stink means contaminated clutch. 3 possibilities. 1. Engine oil from big end 2. Gearbox oil from input shaft. 3. Leaking Slave Cylinder. As you don't seem to have lost a lot of hydraulic fluid, the next suspect is the gearbox shaft seal. I guess you'll have to strip off the gearbox to determine the cause. You may be able to clean the clutch plate with brake cleaner but unless its nearly new it would probably be better to replace the friction plate at least. sorry matt1003....you beat me to it! -
Disturbing event this morning. Slowing down on slip road after 20 miles at 70 mph and I suddenly hear a constant high pitched whistle/squeal. Think its just one the lorrys in front brakes. But no, the lorrys depart but I can still hear the constant whistle/squeal. As I pull round the roundabout and start looking for a lay-by, the squeal subsides slowly (in volume but not pitch) but starts up again in a minute or so, albeit quieter. I pull up and pop the bonnet and try to see if I can see where its coming from. Unable to determine location exactly, just generally to left of engine and maybe towards back. Anyway the noise gradually subsides again and doesnt come back. First thoughts were - 1. cambelt tensioner or roller - these have been changed recently - although the garage didnt return the roller so I'm not 100% sure they changed it (VW garage using official kit) 2. Leak from a/c - maybe low side connector - it was refilled yesterday - the a/c wasnt on at the time and it still works without any indication of lost gas (noise) 3. Auxillary item - tensioner, alternator or power steering pump 4. Turbo? 4. EGR valve, cutting in after prolonged "high speed" run. The thing that puzzles me though is the whistle was fixed in pitch/volume and didnt alter with engine revs, turned a/c on didnt make any difference, hopefully ruling possibilties 1 to 4 out. So, could the EGR valve whistle?

Looks like Hurrican Dean is intensifying rapidly into a major hurricane and could head into the Gulf of Mexico. IIRC Last time that happened (Katrina) it knocked out 1/3 of the U.S. Petrol production. We know what happened to petrol prices over here....

Well decided to go to Kwikfit today...... Problem 1. I asked if he would add 20ml extra oil for me (other that the preprogrammed +10ml). He refused point blank! No matter how I pleaded with him, even if I offered to sign a disclaimer. He said they wouldnt do it as they can't take responsibilty for any subsequent failures/problems. OK.....he's sticking to the rules. Problem 2. He wasn't to keen to proceed as the airvents were already down to 6.1 deg and the pressures looked OK. But I persuaded him anyway. So......one hour later. Problem 3. They don't give you access to the computer printout anymore! :P Company policy apparently, so I had to squeeze the vital statistics one by one out of him. - 490g recovered, 15ml oil - although I'm not at all certain those are indeed the true figures........ So I "lost" 485g in 64 days (~7.5g per day...) Anyway, the airvents are now at 4.9 degrees and more importantly the noise gone (for now). I asked him to check the dryer with his sniffer and he obliged - no leak found....... <_< He was a fair guy, only charged -
How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy

Biodiesel (5%) is available at all Rix service stations and a number of Tesco stations, maybe others too. The jury is still out on whether Biodiesel will to more harm than good, the UN for instance thinks that mass switching to Biodiesel will cause massive ecological damage and increase poverty and hunger enormously. Under changes in the last Budget small producers (<2500 litres per year - that includes individuals) can use biodiesel duty free. All you need to do is to contact your local tax office and declare yourself as a producer of biodiesel. I think Fred Flintstone had the right idea when it came to ecologically sound transport! -

Yes, after 9 weeks and 1 day its still alive. But in the last few days I've been hearing the telltale noise of low gas. So I have been thinking about paying another visit to Kwikfit and this time I'll ask for extra oil to be added and to wave their sniffer over the dryer. I'm convinced the 3 times the dealer refilled my system, they didn't put any oil in as their system seemed pretty basic (2 bottles on a trolley with some pressure guages) only bucket loads of dye. If the extra oil doesn't "swell" the seals, then next next year I'll fit that dryer I bought 5 years ago as I think thats where the problem area is. Anyway at -
How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy
seatkid replied to johnswlondon's topic in Debating forum
Probably yes, because you are not interested in "maximum efficiency" or "max torque" but "fuel consumption" Although max torque is developed around 1900rpm, and the specific fuel consumtion (ltrs/hr/kw) is at its lowest, you are driving at part throttle and a different set of performance curves apply (not published). Also you have factor in all the other variables such as rolling resistance, transmission losses, drag, etc etc. Generally, the lower the speed ,the lower the fuel consumption. If you have on board trip computer and cruise control it would be relatively easy to confirm this. But remember a small change in road conditions etc can make a big difference to instantaneous fuel consumtion. -

Lets not get carried away with statements that are at best optimistic and at worst misleading. All of the mpg figures quoted so far (including mine..... ) are OTT and unlikely to be acheived in real life. In particular posters should make it clear that terms like "petrol equivalent mpg" are a statistical manipulation using fuel price differential as an adjuster. What I have noticed is that there is quite a spread in LPG prices around the country btw. Lets get some basic facts straight though, LPG fuel consumption is around 20% more than petrol, purely because the calorific value is about 20% less than petrol. It is important to consider overall running costs including intial purchase price, conversion, insurance, depreciation, maintenance etc as well as fuel costs. A low mileage driver has not got a very good reason to choose anything but a petrol for instance. Diesel/LPG conversions are IMO a load of bulls**t and I never seen firm evidence of a succesful conversion. These are some amusing quotes from LPG conversion specialists...... Normal Diesel engines are able to combust only 75% up to 80% of the injected diesel. Really? The DFD LPG system is functioning marvelous and therefore we intended years ago to start supplying the system. Unfortunately we aren't able to supply because of legal reasons. At this moment you are not allowed to install and use any diesel LPG system in most of the European countries. Therefore we can't offer this system. What a shame..... Don't get me wrong, I would consider a dual fuel (even maybe an LPG only) vehicle, but only if it were made by a major motor manufacturer and covered by their warranty. Why? Then I would know it had no safety compromises, e.g. the fuel tank is ahead of the rear axle, and is crash tested. My decision would depend on "overall cost of ownership" (and whether I was likely to travel on Eurotunnel or other places where LPG vehicles may be banned) Unfortunately that is not true either. -

Possible Clutch Problems
seatkid replied to keeffy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
What were these "new leads" - is it possible they disturbed the wiring loom to the auto box. I presume the box was perfect until the garage work? -
Removing the sump tray on a Galaxy is a safety hazard as the power steering pump belt is exposed to water spray (on a diesel at least), causing intermittent loss of power assistance. This is well documented and anyone who has experienced this (as i have) will tell you what a frightening experience it is. I doubt if a woman could steer a Galaxy without power assistance.... Removing under trays will also affect aerodynamics, IMO for the worse. Fuel economy is governed totally nowadays by the fuel management system. On petrol models it is dictacted by the lambda probe which controls mixture ratios accurately irregardless of air intake conditions. The one thing your suggestions may affect is performance, but tbh I think all it would do is make it noisier.
