Bicycles, Dustbins And Other Means Of Transport.....
seatkid replied to seatkid's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Well, the debit card took the hit without breaking...... I must admit it hasn't bowled me over. Within a mile of driving it home I was thinking "Why the hell have I bought a Vauxhall?" Anyway, it'll be the kids car and at least it should be economical. For benefit of Gio, initial fuel consumption according to trip computer is 235.7mpg* but I expect it to improve with time.... *a/c switched on -
How To Double The Fuel Economy Of Your Galaxy

Gio, you're the one SHOUTING. I think Gio has a problem believing people can know what they're saying. For instance....did you know that 1. Man has been to the moon 2. That someone managed to cross 1,223 kilometres (760 miles) of the Alps on less than one tank (50 litres / 11 gallons (European) in a bog standard petrol Golf. 3. That computers are just a passing fad and slide rulers will eventually replace them.... -
Check the wiring loom to the injectors - known problem for bad connection at injector to cause rough running. Check vacuum pipes and connections - there are quite a few - there is a small vacuum reservoir the size of a tennis ball at the front of the engine - check the pipe going into this. Loss of vacuum causes the ECU to trip into limp home mode.

gio....forget I ever mentioned mpg....you (and maybe others) will argue with me until the cows come home....I guess my style provokes that.... :16: You don't believe me...thats tough...I run a company that designs and manufacture measurement equipment to traceable calibration standards, I think I know what I am doing when it comes to measurement....... Its sad there are people who take things far too seriously and personaly even when a few smilies are thrown in to lighten the atmosphere... This is my last comment on the subject :16: , except to say that if I were ever to attend a meet (unlikely), I would gladly help organise an economy run challenge. :P :P :P :P :P The World Record (in a VW Golf 1.6Fsi Petrol!) On April 4th 2006, Shell and John and Helen Taylor set a new World Record for fuel efficiency, having driven for 78 days, 28,970 kilometres (18,000 miles), across 25 countries, using just 24 tanks of fuel and averaging an impressive 22.2 kilometres per litre (62.7 miles per gallon (European)/ 52.3 miles per gallon (US)). Along the way they faced some of the toughest road conditions they -
Don't forget to check with your insurance company before you do the mods. You will invalidate your cover if you dont declare them.

As suzuki91 says Look at FAQ 36 - Relay 30 Fuel Pump Relay (sometimes labelled 27) IIRC There are a number of reports posted that wiring to the relay holder or the connections come adrift or get (heat?) damaged leading to intermittent operation as well as faulty relay.

Hi, don't know anything about Mondeos so my stock answer is "Your car is damaged beyond repair and you should trade it in for a Galaxy......"

To get this thread back on track, can I re-iterate that johnswlondon original (1st) post is excellent advice. This is particularly important. -

That may well be with yours gio, but I checked mine regularly over the first 20,000 miles and found it to be accurate +/- 3%. Also checked speed/distance calibration found speedometer < 3mph optimistic up to 75 mph and odometer accurate as near as dammit. Used my firm's GPS gear as reference. Unusual, granted. And I get 800 miles per tank...... Let's face it, some guy's are born with a special touch.....ask my wife  My Skoda's speedometer is on the other hand a full 10% high over its range and its fuel trip computer is between 5 - 10% optimistic  -
You could always put a matching dent on the other side....that way no-one would notice  Really, I don't think you should vent your anger on your son....accidents happen!....go kick down the stone wall instead.....and apologise to your son... ;)

Read the posts in the mkIII section, but really there are too few posts on this forum to form an opinion yet about the Ford mkIII Galaxy. One or two members have had major gripes but remember people are much more likely to post problems than a happy/satisfied experience. At this stage its down to you to decide. Get some decent test drives and remember to compare alternative engines and maybe even try a VW Sharan or Seat Alhambra as well - its a lot of money and you owe it to yourself to be reasonably happy you chose the right car. This class of car (Galaxy or Sharan/Alhambra) isnt flying out of showrooms, I bet most dealers will let you test drive for 24 hours and remember to haggle hard - 25% off should be easy, just check the internet for starters.

Well, I put it down to a healthy lifestyle, stunning good looks, high IQ, sympathetic nature, a little bit of good luck and the fact I am a damn good driver! ;) -
This in incorrect, ABS was optional on low end models on all Mk1's, I remember it well. My first Alhambra did not have ABS, most early Fords (inc Ghia IIRC) didn't either.

...plus you need a new battery in your calculator 40mpg at 97.8p/litre works out at 11.1p per mile not 12.2p (53mpg at 93.9p/litre works out at 8.1p per mile and 25.96mpg at 49.5p/litre works out at 8.7p per mile) -

So long as you're satifisfied that OK by me. A few things though, I personally average 53mpg which I "guess" up to approx 60% of which is town driving - but I don't expect others to average that as "town driving" can vary from a quick flit in/out of a town at night, to being stuck in a big city commute every day. (whats the average consumption of petrol vs diesel when stood idling in traffic?) Also LPG is 49.5p per litre around here and diesel 93.9p per litre. Are you "cherry picking" your figures to make a case? And ignoring things like conversion/maintenance/insurance costs? Fuel costs are but a small part of overall costs of running a car for most people - about 20 to 25% of total costs for a Galaxy - unless you like to run around in an old banger. Anyway, I am so convinced by your arguements that I am taking delivery of a new car on Saturday...... -
Are you sure you don't have more than one key on your key ring, even for another car/make, or in your pocket. I believe two transponders in range at once confuse the immobiliser.

IMO 36mpg minimum 38-40 mpg typical -
No...very different problem. I would say incorrect pump timing - have you had a cambelt replaced recently? Loose crankshaft pulley is a possible suspect (common problem).

Hopefully this is the start of a trend - more reasonable prices for a/c servicing.
