  1. Okay, yes I'm a bonehead for not having a spare, but I was lucky enough to contact Andy from Andy Auto Keys who came and sorted the problem out in a jiffy. First I bought a secondhand blank key for 60 quid. Then Andy came and took the drivers door handle off, took the barrel out and cut a key to suit. Then he could turn the ignition on and program the two keys which work great. And all with a smile what a hero :16: . His total bill was 161 quid (plus the key)which I thought was not bad as the fraud dealers were talking about replacing all the locks ???? Andy also told me he does all the dealers lock work anyway. So all in all I happy and a little skint. Cheers Matt.
  2. Yeah yeah, don't you think the missus has had a few choice words to say...... I have just bought a blank one of ebay. Can I find the key number from somewhere so I can get it cut? Can I find a code to reprogram the fob with Vag-com or something? Cheers Matt.
  3. Lost my one and only key in the snow for the Galaxy 04 tdi. What are my options? I've had a quick search on here without any joy. The car is still open if that helps. Cheers Matt.
  4. Hi Dean, Where did you get the springs from? and how long did it take to fit them, any special tools? Cheers Matt.
  5. Not sure on turning it back on, but I know you can clear the fault codes on the heater, so I'm guessing it should. Don't forget it's only 12quid and you could always flog it on eBay if you're not happy. Cheers Matt.
  6. Try the Richards post in the FAQ's about the com port problems, that should do the trick, as it worked for me... And yes, it's a gamble if the lead works or not, but I've bought two from eBay without any problems so far. As for the software, what kind of problem are you having for the Vag-com to solve? Cheers Matt
  7. Hi Graham, I bought this one http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=220166176356 off the bay and it works fine, but don't forget you only get limited software and if need the whole shooting match you will need to buy the complete software package off ROSS TECH which I believe to be around 50quid. Cheers Matt.
  8. Hi, Smoke... tell me about it ;) This is quite normal, but it should burn off after a few decent trips. I did have a problem with the after run pump not working on my mk2 which made the heater cut out early, so the diesel couldn't burn off. Try searching for after run pumps and try searching for motorcaravan man because he sells the glow plugs on eBay, cheap and quality. Cheers Matt.
  9. If it's just the brushes that have gone just buy two new ones from a auto leccy for around a quid and spend a hour fiddling with some sand paper while the missus watches Eastenders. it works a treat. Cheers Matt.
  10. Hi, Not sure on if the mk1 has a after run pump, but mine is a pump about 2"dia x 6" long with two ports for in and out. Hope it helps. Cheers Matt.
  11. Jesus John can you pick the winning lottery numbers next week for me... I read your thread on replacing the brushes last night and stuck some new ones in earlier and hay presto it works. Thanks for the genius thread on the after run pump and the hardest part was trying to get the rubber clamps back on to the bracket. Many thanks Matt.
  12. Thanks Mum, but surely it would have to be huge to fit the Galaxy in
  13. That makes sense now, when I did the old vag com a fault of overheat came up. Anyone else had this problem? Cheers Matt.
  14. hi, I thought just as much. Yes it's the aux heater and I've put a new glow plug in, reset the vag com, get smoke, hear the jet engine and hear the after run, but the air coming out is colder than your breath(just warmer than the air). The heater exhaust is red hot but the other metal pipe is stone cold would this be a problem or I guess it's based on a matrix and water pump system, so could it be a blockage? Please help I'm freezing
  15. eeeeeeeeewwwwwwww
  16. Yes I know it's another Aux heater question, but how long does yours take to warm up and how hot does it get? Just so I get an idea mine is working well. Cheers Matt.
  17. Hi, Has anyone tried putting a new trip computer stalk onto a galaxy which didn't come with one as standard. I have changed the display settings with vag-com and purchased a trip computer stalk and fitted it, but it still doesn't work. Can anybody help? Cheers Matt.
  18. Hi, it really depends on your year of Galaxy, I bought one of these leads off ebay and it came with all you need inc software and used it on a 2004 tdi galaxy inc clearing the flame outs on the vag-com. Hope this helps, Matt. PS The free software is only the trial version and you will have to purchase the full version if you need to use the advanced programs.
  19. Maybe royal mail are delivering it. :16:  Sorry couldn't resist.
  20. Insider, you're a gem. I will give it a go and let you know how I get on. Cheers Matt.
  21. The finish on it is just crap and I'm a perfectionist. That's why I ask, they do look the same but I just wondered if anyone had actually tried fitting one? Cheers Matt.
  22. Yo, I've been thinking of getting a new steering wheel for my 2004 Galaxy, since mine is pants and was thinking if the Mondeo one would fit, has anyone had a go at doing this mod? Cheers Matt.
  23. Cheers Adrian, Will have to get me arse up there... Many thanks Matt.
  24. Hi Adrian, Which dealer and Which oil? as I live in Weston and I'm looking to do a service. Cheers Matt.
  25. Hi again, Thanks Mum and I'm glad to say I'm now very HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. Yes I know you should always do the searches, but after days of reading post after post I all most gave up. Then I found a post describing where I was going wrong, so I will explain.... First I bought the cheapo cable from good old eBay, I went for the serial type because of people saying the usb type not being reliable. Then I bought a serial to usb adaptor so it could work on my laptop. Right here we go I thought and proceeded to connect it up to the car, it seamed to connect OK and I ran the connection test which came up OK, but when I tried to run the system scan it would go through the motions and on the final screen it just went blank. This is when I went MENTAL...... so I went on the net to find out if I had the wrong cable or if I was doing anything wrong and UREAKEA I found a post describing some one else having the same problem and the solution was the serial to usb adaptor is not compatible, so I closed the laptop and proceeded to bundle the desktop PC into the car because the it had a serial port, then I installed the software and connect the vag-com cable and YIPEE we have lift off..... So the answer is to do the searches, but be prepared to read every post word for word if you need a answer... Can I thank Mumof4, Johnr and orange for my broadband connection :16: Cheers Matt.
