heres another one. just happened to me :angry2: 02 galaxy 75000 miles. driveshaft sheared off just where it goes into gearbox. garage said -
i was thinking it might be rear windscreen wash leaking.

To check the fan you could unplug the connector and put 12v through it, if it spins its okay. There are two fans so i doubt both are caput. Check if wiring connector loose. Check for break in wires. Other possible faults from the tis manual are.. The engine overheats (signs of coolant boiling) Possible Source(s): Air in system. Action(s) to take: BLEED the cooling system. The trip controls has 4 wires 1 to ground and the other three go to the connector at the rear of the instrument cluster. (pins 23 24 and 25) Removing the cluster to test the new trip controls could be just as tricky as just putting the new controls on. This is for a mk2 your 2000 mk 1 or 2? I had this translated from german for changing the cruise control lever. read it at your peril. Removal of the Airbag of the steering wheel Before the removal of the Airbag of the steering wheel the absolutely following points are to be considered: The battery earth cable (-) should be unclamped now already at least 10 minutes!! The steering wheel first in straight-ahead position of the wheels bring. Steering column locking solve, the steering column completely pull out, upward place and there lock. The steering wheel around 90 degrees turn. Above the steering column cover one feels one on the back of the steering wheel Drilling. One approx. 170 mm are enough for screwdriver approx. 45 mm parallel to the steering column put in and then if one the resistance feels the screwdriver with an easy Knipp movement upward draw. With the other hand at the same time the Airbag approx. 3-5 mm from the steering wheel take off. Steering wheel by 180 degrees turn back and with the other side just as muddled. An Engine Control Unit (ECU) also known as an Engine Control Module (ECM) or Powertrain Control Unit/Module (PCU, PCM) if it controls both an engine and a transmission, is an electronic control unit which controls various aspects of an internal combustion engine's operation. The most simple ECUs simply control the quantity of fuel injected into each cylinder each engine cycle. More advanced ECUs found on most modern cars also control the ignition timing, Variable Valve Timing (VVT), the level of boost maintained by the turbocharger (in turbocharged cars), and control other peripherals. ECUs determine the quantity of fuel, ignition timing and other parameters by monitoring the engine through sensors. These can include, MAP sensor, throttle position sensor, air temperature sensor, oxygen sensor and many others. Before ECUs most engine parameters were fixed. The quantity of fuel per cylinder per engine cycle was determined by a carburetor or injector pump. I think it is located in the dash panel behind the instrument cluster.

i know this is an old thread but... i drove my wifes focus (02 1.6) yesterday and it did the same thing. clutch down and braking and the revs went up to 1500. This was in the first 2 mins of driving (1st junction) and didnt do it again after. Dont know if its related but also during driving some times its like something is holding the car back, brakes sticking or the long arm of the law on the bumper or someit?/? Other than that its a great car, well just spent

There are three flavours of cluster the Base Line, the Mid Line and the High Level. The Base line cluster does not have a trip computer in the back. You can check your VIN number on Microcat to see which the car originally had Low, mid or High. i suppose if you pm me it i will have a look see. Mine had a base line and have just bought a new mid line off ebay, still waiting for my self to do something with it though. Does any one out there know the differnence between mid and high (is it the Sat nav option display>?) -
Yes i had the same problem so i took it appart and soldered all the pins, then i threw it in the bin after a little resiter jumped off and ran away., So i bought a new one from ebay.

Pretty sure on my mk2 it was fuse 12. Mk 1 is also fuse 12 (25amp fuse) BUT i would advise getting it fixed before the winter. -
