hello i have 2.0ltr petrol was running fine now cuts out chugging like mad. if you leave it till it,s cold it start up fine and run fine for about 2 miles.called aa out they said likely fuel pump as when it was running slightly rough he banged the fuel tank and it did improve.fuel tank is showing empty when i know there is at least 2 gallons in there.is the fuel pump hard to do and if it was the fuel pump why does,nt do it when cold

hello just been changing rear brake pads on my galaxy done left side(so true in what you say with the tool it was easy.starting doing right side the disc look really rusty but i still carried on undone to 13mm bolts push the piston back with tool but the 2 bits where the bolts screw in to were seized(not moving at all)so spayed wd40 tried moving it but bent one side.what this part called how much and is it just undo 2 big bolt sat bottom and take thing of as i probaly change disc aswell thanks

hello doing brakes on my galaxy done front brakes easily used no special tool.now doing the rear and i can,t get the piston to go back i,ve been using 6inch g clamp but it,s not moving at all (does the piston need to rotate clockwise as i,m pushing in the g clamp?)Also theres dfferent views on here about undoing the bleed nipple is this necessary thanks

hello i had a missfire on my car was getting a shock from throtte housing. when iwas reving up this stopped but still missfiring will change plugs and leads(plugs haven.t been changed in at least 4 years they look a real pain to get out any pointers on taking them out as i don,t want to break of any thing.also on the leads how do you know there on properly when you can,t even see what your pushing on to.do you need any special tool to tke them out.thanks

hello i have 1996 petrol 2.0ltr .it all started couple weeks ago would not start(would turn over but not fire)called aa and he pointed it to a old alarm imboliser(falcon)suddenly coming on.i have not used this for 2yrs.in his words where the alarm was so rubbish all he did was take a few fuses out and it started again.but now sometimes it will not start will turn over but not fire(you can tell this as usually it fires up within 2 turn off the key if it does not it won,t start so i have to wait 5 mins try it and if it fires within 2 turns it will start. thanks sorry about he grammar.

hello i have p reg galaxy and went to check for water and oil and the cable snapped.i now can,t open the bonnet any ideas on how to open bonnet?i tried looking for the 10mm bolt just to the right of ford badge but can,t see it thanks

I would say its the roll restrictor as well. Its a really easy job to do. You'll probably find the bol has sheared off in the actually bar. remove it and take it to a decent garage and they should be able to get the bolt out for about a tenner. Order a new bolt from fraud, about 8 pounds, and a new bush. Need any more help let me know. Mark i took the splash guard of and the bolt had come of the bar thing so i just screw it back in.what do you mean by bush all the rubber bits looked ok.i do have a problem with temp it does,nt get off the bottom of the white even after you let it idle for 15 mins or so it still only goes half way up the white.i,ve been told it could be thermastat is this easy to do and is it under the coil packs

hello i have 2.0 petrol 1998 galaxy when pulling away or when changing gear it knocks.i lifted the bonnet and when revving the engine it does move forward and back.it does not make any noise when just driving along looking at this forum it looks like a broken roll restrictor bolt? if it is this is it an easy job many thanks

just to let you know i had a renault in the last six months the cambelt went so i though i try to remot the galaxy at another mot station good luck no mention what so ever on struts (you folks were spot on)it only failed on wiper blade,bulb,side mirror cracked(not bad after being of the road 6 months)

All this is true, except that when I tried to release the pinchbolt it bloody sheared and was an utter, utter bastard to repair. I therefore recommend you remove the brake caliper carrier, brake disc, driveshaft nut, bottom ball joint (two 8mm allen bolts) and track rod end then you can remove the entire strut with hub still attached. If the allen bolt starts to round you can whack a Torx bit in there which will hold it fine. When I did all this work and replaced the top mount I found there was nothing wrong with the old one, so I took it back for re-mot and showed them the old mount together with the VOSA handbook ammendment and they passed it with no retest fee. Bet there's nothing wrong with yours either. Edit: No spring compressor required for the top mount, only the bearing. hello i went down the mot station the bloke was quite defensive about it and said he knows about vws but the galaxy should have no play in it.and it will need a spring compressor(even thou i went to a nother mot station 2 minutes away and he said yes that if theres play up and down it should not fail but if theres play side to side it would.

hello again i,ve left it in wd40 and having a go weekend am i write in saying all i have to do is hold allen and undo the nut and replace the rubber and not touch the strut sorry for sounding like a dummy again.if it does need to take the strut of what are step by step simpleton instructions many thanks again a great usefull site(helps you stop getting ripped of by some garages.

ii,m soaking wd40 stuff in the cup things at the moment am i write in saying you have to us an allen key and dropped ring spanneron the nut to undo

hello i took my car for an mot today passed on the things i thought would fail on .but it has failed on the following 1 back light not working 2 exhaust has leak (the back box is gone) 3 because of the above he could not test it for emissons 4 nearside & offside front macpherson strut has excessive movement at the upper attachment this is the ones i worried about as i,ll asked the mot bloke and he said they can be a pig to do as they rust badly.i asked him for a quote and he did,nt really want to say but said around 3hrs could be more(for all of the above)does this sound right . i,ve took the long panel above the struts so you can see it and true to form they look really rusted one side even had water in it is this an easy job to do once if i can undo the nuts does the whole strut need to come off i,m also thinking putting on the back box first get emisson test then start on dreaded struts (as he did say you could do all this and it still fail on emissons thanks(sorry about my grammar)l

still waiting on my claim my legal team seem to be usless they have asked for a crime refence number that was in jan 08 and it seems they can,t produce one yet all they have done is asked to see a copy of his driving licensce and telling them he was a small courier for which his insurance says he was not(i,ll can,t remember want the bloke looks like 10 months ago)and they are saying still not enough evendence to take it to court
