Hi Guys, sorry my first post is a problem, just wondering if anyone knows where the coolant thermostat is on my 1996 2.0i petrol MK1 sharan with climate control. There are 2 like suspects that I can see, one is on the very left hand side (pass side) of the block and has 3 nuts holding the housing in. The other has what looks like the ECT sensor plug on it but this is on the front of the engine (but still near the pass side) the hose from this one goes to the top of the radiator. I am thinking its the latter, but I didnt want to just start taking bolts off without having a good idea. I do have a haynes manual but as usual the photo looks completely different to my model and the location states (l/h side of engine block) not v helpful. Both of the suspect look pretty similar and both could physically hold the thermostat.. any idea which one guys please. Thanks for your help. (the reason why I'm suspecting the thermostat is the top rad hose is hot and the bottom is cold.. the expansion cap blew yesterday and the car was getting hot.. I can slow this heating down by turning on internal heater to hot).. The rad cooling fan operates at slow and fast speeds so its physically the water is not getting cooled by the rad.. (I thought the thermostat is in between the two) Thanks for any help guys p.s I do have photos but cannot upload them here yet.. any ideas?
