  1. Wondering if anyone would have an idea or wiring diagrams for the front and rear windscreen wiper systems? Or even a breakdown of the relays and the numbers for the main fuse box under the steering wheel on a 1996 2.0l petrol sharan... Is the fusebox the same on the Galaxy? I have a couple of problems with my sharan at the moment. While trying to fault find a current drain problem I took out all of the relays one by one and all the fuses one by one. I found the current drain on my interior lights circuit. However after having put everything back together I now find that my front windscreen wipers dont work in any mode!! I have a haynes manual but that is very vague and centres around the gal with the central fusebox..completely different. If anyone could offer advice to help with fixing my wiper problem I would appreciate it!! I have since checked all the fuses for continuity and the relays are all seated. I have checked for voltage at the wiper stalk and I seem to have some 12 V on some pins. But without knowing which relay in the box or wiring data I have quite a problem. I have attached a pic (or will attempt to!) of the fusebox and cover.
  2. Cheers guys for your help with this, the Sharan does indeed have a VW 2.0 ady engine. I made the mistake of buying the haynes manual thinking that it may help.... fat chance lol. Will have to try some other VW cars now because of this. Elsawin, not much help to man nor beast really..but I think that it is about it! The engine itself is completely different to the ford 2.0DOHC engine that I used to have in my Granada scorpio. Cheers guys and hope that not all things are this difficult!
  3. Hi Guys, Got my own copy of Elsawin and not impressed with it so far, So maybe I am doing something wrong? I put in all my model details ie. VW sharan 1996 2.0 ady engine. All I get is a picture of a waterpump when I look in engine cooling with a hyperlink which basically says 'remove/fit waterpump' but if I click it it just states 'webpage not found' I think it is trying to connect to VW. I bought a ford Gal haynes manual, this obviously does not show any details for my Sharan. Getting really fed up that there are no decent tools/books out there for us to maintain our own cars! Can anyone else get this info with their own copy of Elsawin please?? Seems pretty poor when you can't even get any info in a digital workshop manual. I would happily pay a good price for this software legally. Just seems to me to be another rip off by VW to me. Thanks for any help guys
  4. Thanks for your reply mumble! I did the long run and timed it to avoid heavy traffic. The coolant temp on the sharan is not marked with numbers. (purely done with a line at each quarter of the guage.) Mine stays just below 3/4 all the time when driving, apart from when I hit traffic and get stationary. Put the blower on hot and open my windows up  I think the prob that I am having is that my waterpump is on the way out. (small seep out of the ball bearing type hole at the bottom of the pump) Going to have to bite the bullet I think (VW ADY 2,0 ltr petrol engine) and change the pump. For information my Sharan does have an oil temp on the digital display and throughout the journey it indicated between 98 deg c and 104 deg c. Not sure what kind of temp the oil should be but I don't want to go on driving around if I am going to cook the engine. Any idea folks? Thanks for all your help guys.
  5. After the hassle with my thermostat (now changed), and with a tiny dribble of water leaking occasionally from the ball bearing hole on the water pump ( I guess the pump is on its way out!..deep joy)after all. But my water temp stays pretty much at the 3/4 hot mark then the fans kick in.( stays here with the A/C on also.. fan running at halpf speed) But not recently heard the hi speed fan on. no mater how I drive the temp normally sits at 3/4 is this normal? I have tried letting her idle for 20 mins or so, but the temp never seems to get hot enough to turn fan fully on. Or move up the guage much further! I am asking this because I have a 300 mile journey tomorrow and wanted to know what your normal temps are for water and oil. My water about 3/4 of the way and the rad feels hot. The oil temp when I'm around town or motorway from between 92deg c to 99 deg c on the digital display Is this too hot and should I be worried guys? Also does the display show 100 deg ?... as I have Not seen that yet! Thanks in advance btw its a mk1 sharan vw 2.0i petrol ady engine.
  6. Thanks Wolfie for confirming. I have had a quick look underneath but looks like a bit of a bugger to get at. Also I can't see the bolts. Basically I just followed the rads bottom hose back.. goes into a plastiv coupling But I couldn't see any bolts. Maybe because I didn't jack the car right up? The Air cond compressor also seems to be very close to the location.. Maybe hindering any access? I do have a haynes manual and that is completely useless for my 2.0i petrol model unfortunately. Also could you tell me if they are Torx bolts please. Do I need to remove anything for access also. Thanks for all your help andy
  7. Thankyou Justice for replying. That is where I thought it was, but having removed inspected all looking likely candidates (x2) on the passenger side of the cyl head. No Joy! Although I have found out since that it is supposed to be on the other side underneath the water pump at tht bottom of the engine. going to find out tomorrow. Will let you know! cheers
  8. Hi Guys, sorry my first post is a problem, just wondering if anyone knows where the coolant thermostat is on my 1996 2.0i petrol MK1 sharan with climate control. There are 2 like suspects that I can see, one is on the very left hand side (pass side) of the block and has 3 nuts holding the housing in. The other has what looks like the ECT sensor plug on it but this is on the front of the engine (but still near the pass side) the hose from this one goes to the top of the radiator. I am thinking its the latter, but I didnt want to just start taking bolts off without having a good idea. I do have a haynes manual but as usual the photo looks completely different to my model and the location states (l/h side of engine block) not v helpful. Both of the suspect look pretty similar and both could physically hold the thermostat.. any idea which one guys please. Thanks for your help. (the reason why I'm suspecting the thermostat is the top rad hose is hot and the bottom is cold.. the expansion cap blew yesterday and the car was getting hot.. I can slow this heating down by turning on internal heater to hot).. The rad cooling fan operates at slow and fast speeds so its physically the water is not getting cooled by the rad.. (I thought the thermostat is in between the two) Thanks for any help guys p.s I do have photos but cannot upload them here yet.. any ideas?
