  1. Thanks - I understand it now! It seems to have some kind of rachet so that when the pedal strikes it it finds it 'home'. What a performance - but hopefully this will help others that WILL have to do this! It is not often Ford have a part in stock but they had this ot my local dealer - wonder why!
  2. Can someone tell me the procedure to set it - is there one? I have read the posts but no one seems to have a clear idea - there are one or 2 suggestions but none confirmed. Do you just fit and forget? One post thought securing it in the bracket caused it to set - not sure I believe this. I could believe it does some kind of reset when it is powered up it?
  3. Finally got it off - once I had turned it a quarter turn to release it I then used a screw driver to help it off - the lugs which hold it secure are a tight fit through the bracket to remove it. Required a little help!
  4. Thanks that is good advice! I think a few passers by were shocked when I was trying to get the switch off last night!
  5. I have struggled and finally managed to remove the lower dashboard trim - it is a real b****** to separate the lower RH panel from its adjacent brother. Can now get at the switch - turned it to release and it is loose but cannot get it off the bracket - one post mentioned there possibly being a securing nut. Is this the case? Thanks.
  6. Has every galaxy had an air con problem: just look at the number driving around with the windows open!! Mind you - Aston Martin DB9s also seem to be having a lot of failures so we are in good company! Mine failed on corroded condensor - post 2000 is definately a bad year.
  7. Air con stopped working - system was re-gassed and working again, but still getting noise from behind the dashboard which sounds like the evaporator or valve groaning! Stops as soon as you switch off air con and noise is louder when on the move versus engine idling. Has anyone else had, or is having, similar groaning from their system and found out what it is??!! Also, perhaps a poll on the price for a re-gas would be useful - mine was
  8. Thanks for the reply Ivor - I guess my car is out of warranty as it is now >3 years old. My main concern is that if it is the temp sender then will it affect engine running i.e. feedbacK to ECU or does the ECU use another sender for its temp information?
  9. Can anyone tell me (any pictures?) where the temperature sensor is for the temp gauge on a new shape 2001 1.9 tdi. The tis Cd shows the v6 but I not the diesel as far as I can see - it just says it is at the front of the engine - I've had a look and cannot see it myself! My gauge is dropping to 0 and then back to normal - I can see others have had the same problem but none of the replies explain/show where the temperature sendor is? Thanks Graeme.
  10. Thanks Nimrod - now I know what the sponges are for: I'll put the soaked (now dry!) sponge back but I will keep a close eye on this area as it is all very damp. I suggest anyone that is thinking of keeping their car for a long time does the same because I can see this becoming a problem later on with rot if left unchecked - mine was so damp. Great site - I have already got a huge amount of information over the last couple of months. Thanks to all who contribute.
  11. Managed at last to find a cover from ford (
  12. Hi, Thanks for all your replies to my earlier question on washing the filter - mine had no clips holding it into the housing - should there be any??
  13. Tried a new cabin filter (for 2001 1.9 TDi) from halfords and it is not a good fit - reading some of the comments from this forum I am worried about water ingress. SO..I guess only route is a genuine part from Ford which means
