  1. Yeap i think it is the alternator drive belt tensioner ! Just got back from Fords in Newbury and they were really helpfull. The Technician came out and checked the noise and said it would be the tensioner ! Anyway...thanks all. Can I carry on driving for the rest of the week before It is booked in? What happens if the tensioner fails will it cause massive/expensive damage? Iceboy
  2. Yeah kind of next to the alternator, just behind it...there is a small metal cover.
  3. Hi All, I have just started to hear a metallic rattling noise (like a tambourine being rattled) from the engine bay. It appears at idle and disappears after 2000rpm. This is an intermittent problem and thins morning I stopped at the road side when the noise came back and it seems to be the following shaking rapidly: If you look down into the left hand side of the engine where the belts are whizzing around there is a metal cover (casing) which is plugged into the side of the engine there just behind the top pulley (for the belt). This can bee seen violently shaking and the then stops if revved over 2000rpm. When I switched it off it, the metal cover certainly feels solid and does not have any movement ?? What is this and should I stop driving it and take it straight to the Stealer / independent. Thanks in advance. IceBoy
  4. Right I think a little shopping around is in order !
  5. It is coming up to 60K ! I know that the mileage is fairly high...but I got a good deal.

  7. 54-Plate 115-Auto Zetec. Thanks in advance.
  8. Will all dealers across the UK charge the same? The independent around here is at least 25% cheaper ? Fruads wants
  9. Morning All, Just a quickie as I am still a newbie.....I have noticed that If I put my foot down more than 1/2 way the power seems to be like a wave....intermitent. It make the gal feel like the power is coming in then off lots of times.....sort of every sec. If I back off the accelerator then the problem goes away. I am going to get the Gal serviced (10k) within the next couple of week.....is this something that could be more than a general servicing issue? Help. IceBoy Otherwise seems good....on for 500 miles per tank I hope !
  10. Thanks G.
  11. Keep reading lots of thing about this but not sure what is it and what it does? what happen if the Gal has a faulty one?
  12. Hello once again, Lots of questions today ! Ummm.... what is the fitment for the alloys on my 54-plate zetec. The alloys have been unloved and I might change them when the tyres wear out! Are they the same as a mondeo of the same vintage or VW passat/A6 of the same era ? Off-set? IceBoy <_<
  13. Dont get me started ! <_<
  14. Thanks Mum. Started to grow up a bit now ! House Kids Wife and The Galaxy ! <_<
  15. Hi All, I'm new to this forum and thought I would introduce myself. I'm IceBoy and we have just purchased a 54-Plate Zetec 115 auto as the family car. To be honest I am really please with the purchase and the Gal ticked all the boxes for what we needed. Kids, shopping, toys and the wife all travel in comfort now. I'm a bit of a car nut and have a few toys in the garage that come out in the summer months. I also regularly post on the Pistonheads forum & various VW forums. Current cars: 2004 - Ford Galaxy TDI 115 - auto 2003 - Audi A6 TDI multitronic 1990 - Golf GTI 8v big bumper 1990 - Golf GTI sportline cabrio - flash red Sold recently: 2002 - BMW M3 1995 - Volvo T5R I look forward to being a member and joining the discussions. 16. Hi All, I done a similar thing in my dads passat. I think using 1/2 screws should be fine. Not sure if there is something behind that part of the dash on the Gal but it should be ok. IceBoy
