Just to update - rear wiper is has been and still working fine so WD40 did the trick. A note to all - if your tailgate washer isn't squirting very well its likely that the hose is leaking over the wiper motor each time you squirt so recommend getting it secured as will be cheaper than a new motor!

Thanks Mirez, the jet is working fine now it has been re-attached properly - but wiper is still being temperamental again! still only working when it feels like it so may have been too late to save the motor - i'll have keep a look out for a replacement. Although if i cant find one at a good price i'll just invest in some Rain-X :(

the washer only squirted up a couple of inches if that so wont miss it! - i've used the washer since repair and it is now squirting half way up the window which explains the leak causing it to have a loss of pressure.

Got an auto electrician around today, he said the loom and wires were all fine - which was good news. He found the fault which it seemed water from the washer pipe (next to the motor) had got into the motor and started to corrode, he cleaned and wd40'd it and all is now working fine . £50 well spent - peace of mind that the wiring is all ok and managed to hopefully save the motor - wont use the rear washer as pretty useless anyway!

Thanks for your comments - My local garage checked it today and said there isnt a fault in the switch or at the wiper motor as all came out okay in the checks, suggested that it was in the wiring loom that runs along the length of the car - although i dont know if he checked under the rubber covers at the top of the tailgate which has been mentioned on here? As there is a rubber cover on each side going into the tailgate - which side would be for the wipers? would i be correct in thinking the drivers side ? what is the technique in taking the rubber off, as i pinched / pulled the top part and it came off from the body - although quite stiff, i could see only the wires - but not a connection to anything, i couldn't get the other end of the rubber cover off that attaches to the tailgate and didnt want to force it(didnt want to do any damage as can live without just the wiper!)? is there a technique to getting the other end of the rubber cover off or just brute force? and what will i find under there - is there a connection point for the loom - will all be revealed? Thanks.

okay thanks, I have it booked in at my local garage tomorrow to take a look. Although wiper has worked fine for two days since i booked it in!! it decided not to work this evening - very strange !!

Hi, I have seen some of the other topics about the rear wiper and the faults with the wiring into the tailgate. However, not sure if this applies to mine as the last week when i turn the wiper on sometimes it works and works fine - but on the same journey i will again go to turn the wiper on and it wont work, i'll try it again 10 minutes later and it will work - very strange - any thoughts?? Thanks for all feedback, it is always appreciated. ('04 reg 2.3 Ghia)

Hi,I have an 04 Mark 2 and regularly head down to the Alps - i can recommend these from experience and used them for the past few years www.autosock.co.uk They are very easy to put on and very good even in light & deep snow. I have just invested in some Nokian WRG2 tyres for this years trip as my Michelins were next to useless on anything other than wet / dry tarmac! The Nokians have good reviews and good for both Winter & Summer driving. Cheers

Update - all completed, spindles greased and pleased to say wipers are now working fine. I also took the opportunity to Waxoyl the suspension turrets / mounting bolts (not sure what they're called!) as they were covered in surface rust - it seems water runs down from screen and sits in them. Thanks for message response and all the information on this site. ;)

Hi Chris, thanks for confirming that. The wipers are lined up okay in the down position so will get the linkage off to take a look, have a neighbour that has repaired the linkage on his and kind enough to help. Do you know if you can buy replacement bushes if required (as haven't been able to find any on line) or is it a case of a new unit? Thanks again for your assistance, much appreciated.

Thank you, just like to clarify that as the speed of my wipers don't seem to bad (at moment) would it still be the linkage seizing that is causing the wiper to stop short from the A pillar before returning? Are there any sensors or regulators in there or is the movement governed just by the linkage?
-
Hi all, I have a 2004 Galaxy and it noticed today that the drivers side wiper is stopping a couple of inches shorter from the A pillar than it should do before returning, the passenger side wiper is extending okay. I have read about the problems with the spindles and linkage seizing and instructions on removing and repairing the linkage but to be honest i'm not too confident to fully dismantle the unit! I have read that as motor is working it could just be a case of the spindles needing lubricating to get the wiper fully functional. Is this a likely diagnosis and if so does anyone have any simple step by step instructions to lubricate the spindles? Many thanks in advance.

Johnb80 could you drop me an email, i did send a message yesterday direct although not sure if you received it - would like to take up offer of advice on best process to proceed with small claims? Fords contacted me again today confirming again that they would not pay, they had a duplicate copy from one of the letters i had sent! Was told that wear and tear would be caused through bad driving habits!!! i was livid.. i suggested that if my wife and i drove improperly why does our mondeo have 75000 miles on the same clutch and neither of us have had a clutch fail in 20 years driving each? received continual text book customer service responses. Was told that they have to be guided by the technicians diagnosis when the part was changed......although the same dealer/ technician advised two days prior to the repair that the clutch was fine and there was no problems with it, leaving me to risk a 600 mile drive back to the UK , (feeling = head + banging + brick wall!) I am amazed how they have the gall to say 'thank you for your time today etc' after they have really P'd you off!! so very patronising!!

Thanks guys, keep 'em coming, IDH

Thanks, i had taken a look at some of the various valuation services but they dont seem to fall in line with what is actually being advertised on the market.... It seems there is a bit of a finger in the wind calculation for some of the adverts!! I guess the only accurate guide is measuring prices of what has actually been bought and sold.

I am considering to sell my Galaxy privately and been looking at the various vehicle sales websites to get an idea on value and really non the wiser! Any ideas on value of 2004(04) 2.3 Ghia, Manual, 20k miles, Silver, all usual Ghia spec. warranty to April '07. Any ideas?? Thanks

Hi, Was having a conversation recently with someone that mentioned they needed new wipers when there car was serviced at the local Ford dealer in ESSEX and was suprised as thought the ones they had worked fine - it reminded me of an incident that happened and to make people aware of what could be a nice little earner for dodgy dealers...... I had my Galaxy's first service earlier this year and when i went to collect was told that it needed new wipers, they would be about
