Yes it is possible to swap them around as we did this some years ago and converted the rear left seat, which had the booster seat, to the centre seat 2nd row. I recall that the components you need to swap between the two chairs are the seat belt latch point/s which bolt to the chair chassis and the plastic 'skirting' around the base of the chair. The chair chassis are identical and allow the seat belt anchor points to be located left or right or in the case of the swap to the centre, both sides. Remember to torque the seat belt anchor points to the correct setting as these form part of the MOT test and also are a key safety element of the car. Not sure whether the insurance companies would see this as a modification? Happy driving.

At what mileage are you folks replacing your Cat converters? I think the handbooks state 80K miles. Cheers, -
Turbo Limp 17965 T-map Fault
34laxy replied to al terego's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Snap! Same problem, Same age of Gal, and Same mileage, Spoooky! :( Thanks for the detail of your fault finding mission, not cheap I guess? What was the technician using to read the T-Map, VAG-COM? What was used to establish that the T-Map readings were wrong? VAG COM gave me the identical fault code as you describe and I had been planning to strip down the Turbo suspecting that the vanes were sticking due to excess soot. Your solution sounds worth a try first. -
Hi folks, The average MPG readout on the dashboard has currently settled around the 37.0 mpg mark. In its prime it used to achieve 44.0+ on runs along the motorway, but no longer :-(. It currently has 95K on the clock and VAGCOM reports a good match between the expected and delivered values on the Air Mass (guessing the terminology here as it was last week when I ran the dynamic test). No other faults reported on VAG COM. Replaced air filter in January and as far as I'm aware it has the original MAF sensor and Cataylitic converter. Thoughts and ideas much appreciated ;-)

'Just out of interest 34laxy where can you get those gaskets that you mentioned' Try www.seaes.co.uk or check out www.eberspacher.com/dealers/heating-dealers Cheers

If your heater has not worked correctly for a period there may be residual fuel in the combustion chamber and/or the exhaust. If the you believe the heater is working correctly it is worth allowing the heater to run and allow it to burn off this residual fuel whilst the car is stationary. Not very environmentally friendly I know however at least no one is following you. Allow at least ten minutes with the engine at idle or until all the residual fuel has been burnt off. You may also find that replacing the two gaskets between the controller/motor housing and the combustion chamber helps to improve the seal and the combustion process which should reduce the smoke problem. I have recently replaced the combustion motor in mine and found both of the above steps achieved a working heater without the trail of smoke. Trust this helps.

Vag-com Connection Problems (again)

Sounds obvious but have you switched the ignition on when connected? -
Haynes manual states clockwise direction for re-fitting the pistons. Manual covers Mk1 only but do not know if Mk11 is different. However this only applies if you take the pistons out of the caliper which sounds like you haven't. It may be that the piston is slightly offset in the caliper and suggest gently pressing the brake peddle to push the piston out a little to realign it. Get friend to help but do not depress peddle to floor as the piston will come right out. Hold the other piston in with a G clamp or piece of wood between piston and disc. Then with the bleed screw slackened off press the other caliper in gently using equal pressure at least each side of the piston face. If it gets really difficult you could take the caliper off the car but keep the brake hose connected. Support the caliper on a block of wood or similar but do not let it hang on the brake hose. With the disc out of the way you will find it easier to access the piston I would avoid using WD40 at all costs as there is a risk that the WD40 may contaminate the system and/or damage the rubber seals.

roly1977, From your ebay link I see you bought the same lead as I did. Refering to my earlier post above did you find it difficult to fit to the lead to the galaxy end? 34laxy

How different is the socket for he MkII ? Is it just the shroud around the pins or the pins themselves that are different? A visual check looks like he pins and their set out is the same as the plug on the Galaxy. 34laxy

MJR thanks for your reply. Hopefully an image of the serial socket connection should appear. 34laxy 2002 Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi 115

MATT jr & Alhambra, Did you have any problems fitting the serial cable to the serial port in the Galaxy? I have just received my cable from a US supplier, bought on ebay, and the two small flnages at the top of the socket, see Alhambras picture few replies above, are preventing the socket fitting to the port. It appears that the plastic socket protecting the pins is slightly too small for the two flanges. The socket has the OBD11 ref on it and there are two rows of eight pins either side of a central flange that match the port. I m thinking of getting stanley knife out to cut away some material but any replies before I ruin the cable would be helpful. thanks :( 2002 Galaxy Ghia 1.9 tdi 115 with lots of faults

Thanks for the advice MJR. A session for my Galaxy at the hands of the local AC engineer sounds the best bet. Hope the evaporator/condenser aren't blown... PS: Apologies for the quoted reply without the above text. Not sure what happend.
