  1. Hi all, We have a 1997 Galaxy (2.8 V6 GhiaX 4x4 Auto). Yesterday it started a loud sqeeling noise which I can only assume was the belt on the left hand side of the engine (drivers side). I think it must be slipping as the battery light came on so it can't be spinning the alternator properly. I can't see any damage on the belt itself, so I has wondering if it can simply be tightened up as a short term fix as I do on my Classic Mini? Or will be need replacing straight away?? If it does need replacing immediately, can anyone point me in the direction of 'How-To' as I'm a bit of a novice and also can't afford any expensive mechanics bills?!?! Thanks everso!!
  2. We've replaced the thermostat and I don't think thats it as the light comes on even when cold!
  3. Not when our mechanic last looked a few weeks ago... havn't check today as it peeing down with rain!!
  4. Hi, I'm reading your comments with interest! We have an Galaxy 4x4 Auto 2.8 V6 Ghia X (Mk1) which is having over-heating problems. The oil temp regularly goes above 100 which is quite alarming and in the past we've had the temp on the red with the red light on - we stopped and waited for ages until it cooled and then hobbled home. Yesterday, on the way home from shopping, the light above the temp guage started flashing, but the guage was right in the middle (on norm)! I thought this was a warning of low coolant, but there was plenty in the tank when I looked this morning! Also, we tend to have to keep the heater on in the cabin to keep the temp gauge down. This is a real pain especially when its hot outside! Our local mechanic has had a look several times. He's changed the thermostat, changed the switch that tells the fan to come on and he's done a full service (inc flushing the coolant and replacing it). Any ideas before we take to our local Fraud Dealers? Thanks, Mark.
