Towing trailers or caravans with vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes In this article reference is made to the maximum authorised mass (MAM) of vehicles and trailers. This should be taken to mean the permissible maximum weight, also known as the gross vehicle weight. Category B: Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM and with up to eight passenger seats Category B vehicles may be coupled with a trailer up to 750kgs MAM (allowing a combined weight up to 4.25 tonnes MAM) or a trailer over 750kgs MAM provided the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the towing vehicle, and the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes MAM. For example: a vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.25 tonnes and a MAM of 2 tonnes coupled with a trailer with a MAM of 1.25 tonnes could be driven by the holder of a category B entitlement. This is because the MAM of the combination does not exceed 3.5 tonnes and also the MAM of the trailer does not exceed the unladen weight of the drawing vehicle Whereas the same vehicle with an unladen weight of 1.25 tonnes and a MAM of 2 tonnes when coupled with a trailer with a MAM of 1.5 tonnes would fall within category B+E. This is because although the combined weight of the vehicle and trailer is within the 3.5 tonnes MAM limit, the MAM of the trailer is more than the unladen weight of the drawing vehicle Vehicle manufacturers normally recommend a maximum weight of trailer appropriate to their vehicle. Details can usually be found in the vehicle's handbook or obtained from car dealerships. The size of the trailer recommended for an average family car with an unladen weight of around 1 tonne would be well within the new category B threshold. Towing caravans As for towing caravans, existing general guidance recommends that the laden weight of the caravan does not exceed 85% of the unladen weight of the car. In the majority of cases, caravans and small trailers towed by cars should be within the new category B threshold. An exemption from the driver licensing trailer limit allows a category B licence holder to tow a broken down vehicle from a position where it would otherwise cause danger or obstruction to other road users. By passing a category B test national categories F (tractor), K (pedestrian controlled vehicle) and P (moped) continue to be added automatically. Category B+E: Vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM towing trailers over 750kgs MAM Category B+E allows vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes MAM to be combined with trailers in excess of 750kgs MAM. In order to gain this entitlement new category B licence holders have to pass a further practical test for category B+E. There is no category B+E theory test. For driver licensing purposes there are no vehicle/trailer weight ratio limits for category B+E. Drivers who passed a car test on or after 1 January 1997 are required to pass an additional driving test in order to gain entitlement to category B+E and all larger vehicles. In addition to the new driving tests, drivers of vehicles which fall within subcategories C1, C1+E, D1 and D1+E also have to meet higher medical standards. Galaxy Shaking When Braking
Chris Jones replied to ninjakev's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
This is very good advice DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL YOU HAVE CHECKED ALL THE WHEEL NUTS. Also if the wheels have been off recently (service?) and the retaining screws aren't used on the disk a bit of crap my have got in behind the disks giving the same symptoms as warped disks. Also not cleaning properly behind the disks when fitting new ones can cause premature warping of them. -

Chris Jones replied to markos69's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Have got a similar problem my fan doesn't cut in automatically but will run when i turn the AC on. The AC doesn't work either so I have put it down to a faulty temp switch somewhere with having the two faults. Could someone please tell me which sensor I need to check. -

Lighten up. If you are going to do a conversion the newer the car the better. Better pay back. My old bus is coming up to K if the conversion had been done on mine when it was new it would have been payed for three times over. Veg oil was the original fuel for diesels until the big oil companies got there way.

No 1st Or 2nd Gear Selection
Chris Jones replied to Chris Jones's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Cheers It appears to be the cable end, yesterday it had come off alltogether from what ive picked its time to replace the cable and its a 4hr job at frauds brilliant  sound like an easy job NOT. It can stay off the road now until Saturday thanks for the reply Neil but as posted above it looks like its the cable -
Is it fitted with standard wheels? It is possible that the tyres might be fouling on the inner wings Garage should check it out for a modest charge. It has the original Alloy wheels (and tyres), I will check, but it does not have to be anywhere near full lock to get the noise, just a bit of turn and lots of gas... well diesel! grinding noise rather than knocking noise possible wheel bearing or possible loose badly fitted trim in wheel arch When you say hard left hand turn do you mean pulling away with left hand lock or going fast and hard into a corner

Cheers seemed to have fixed it for now :P but didnt find out what was wrong pulled it all apart  cables were conected and it was ok ;) -
I once had a passat that used to a fantastic starter then one morning it just didnt wont to know. The fault was traced back to a heater plug master fuse which can be found on the galaxy just in front of the battery (i think will check later) worth a look as it will be obvious if it has blown. Yep its there. lol
