  1. aaah the voice of reason mum i've just been looking at the vacuum hoses, some are chafing, the one from the right hand pressure hose and the one going to the EGR ( ithink) is a bit crumbly, are these critical?
  2. Damn and Blast. It's no better ;) ;) :) What could it be??? Do the turbos seize? Any clues or tips gratefully received, help please... :)
  3. Thanks guys n gals. I have bought the new one from my local VW dealership. It is the Pierburg not a Bosch and this particular one is not a service exchange item.
  4. Wow, had a quote from my local Ford dealer today, via a mate who works there.
  5. are these 'hot wire type' or the 'thick film type' from what I understand hot wire get dirty and can be cleaned carefully but the thick film type deteriorate over time. MAF problems are notoriously difficult to detect byt reading fault codes unless its a complete failure :D sheesh... i did find a data sheet on the maf but it was all in german... so not sure if it's wire or film. there is one on ebay at the mo with the pierburg part number, am tempted. found this now http://www.msi-motor-service.com/ximages/P...0079_EN_WEB.pdf
  6. took months as i wasnt allowed to touch the car till i passed my test..... :D once id passed i was allowed to start sorting it out.....besides,,took me a while to find the right seller to buy from. And yes....took me a while to fit!!..hey...considering it was the first thing i sorted out on the car...i think i did well!!   Thanks Mo4, The guy is going to plug in tomorrow for a diagnosis. The only thing that is bothering me at the mo is that it is a Pierburg MAF, TDIFAQ says these are really reliable. Has anyone changed a Pierburg MAF or have all the faulty ones on here been Bosch? All the pics on here are of the Bosch unit I think. Just wondering....
  7. Mo4, for months!!?? didn't you get fed up of being overtaken by old men walking their dogs?
  8. Ok So I tried running the car with the MAF unplugged. It ran just as poorly (ie no power) but did a little rev when it started. So back home I plugged the MAF back in and started it again, it did the little rev again, but now after standing a while it starts as normal. So, have I messed it up by runnig it with no MAF? And... if id did fit a new MAF would it need VAGcom or similar to reset anything?? Thanks.
  9. Hello everyone, like Dave I have had Galaxys for 10 years and maybe its a testament to how relaible they have been that I haven't had to search you out. BUT now the power loss thing has hit us. Have read all the threads eagerly. A guy is going to plug in on Monday. My only worry is that the turbo has siezed because we let the oil go a bit low... :angry2: Rich
