  1. Well, I've taken my time to get back you you, but here goes. The guy that did the recon Just outside Cardiff (recommended to the mother-in-law) has been an absolute pain the the you-know-what. I still get a puff of smoke when I turn it over, even though I was told the barrels have been 'done'. When I asked about it he shrugged and said that they go off site for that work. Hmmmmm. He said I need a new clutch. OK I said (checking the wallet). It's just started to squeal. Oh, what is that strange clattering noise that has been there since it was returned to me? And it still drinks oil. He kept hold of the car as he was having trouble sourcing a pulled and wasn't happy giving it back without the change (checking wallet again, I give the go ahead). So why did it snap the belt on the way from Edinburgh to Cardiff? Hmmmm, the only pulleys I saw were both old and one had shagged bearings (out with the wallet). The air-con has since been re-gassed but doesn't work. Not really a thing that could be included in an engine overhaul I suppose. Moral of the story: buy a second hand engine. I suppose not all re-builders are this bad, but I'm still smarting!
  2. initially I'd hoped they were sleeping gas vents ;) :D Now there's a mod I wouldn't mind taking on! 1 * 2 year old plus 1 * 3 month old, out cold at the flick of a switch! Muhahahahaha!
  3. Update! Chap in Wales (known to the in-laws) will pick up the car, take it back to Wales, totally recondition the engine, guarantee it for 12 months / 20,000m for just over
  4. Ta for the welcome! I've been told that it uses the same engine as the Sierra. I too thought
  5. First off - Hello! (first port on here). I joined yesterday afternoon and blew the engine last night  Jinxed? It started off sounding like a tappet was going off, which got worse, much worse! I eventually pulled over as I thought I was about to put a valve through a piston. I called out the RAC and the chap that turned up is certain it's not a tappet, it's a big end bearing that's gone. The oil was low but not below the lower dip-stick mark. The oil warning light did flash at me during some heavy breaking at one point though. So: How hard is it to whip a P-reg 2.0l engine out and replace it with one from a breaker? Is
