In 2006 we bought a Ford Galaxy 1.9 TD 115PS LX.<br />The following are the problems we had with it until July 2009 when the garage took it back off us.<br /><br />I went straight out and bought an Alhambra. Talk about a glutton for punishment :-(<br /><br />1. Air con bust. Has been since we bought it. This was the reason te garage agreed to take back the car.<br /><br />2. Water in the front footwell. Pipe for rear wash used to spray water under carpet. Fixed this by reading this website. I went investigating and possibly made it worse by putting the plastic panel at the top of the engine bay back wrongly. I didn't slot it into all the catches. Fixed this but water still pouring in.<br /><br />3. Complete lack of power. The MAF sensor had failed. Sorted it out thanks to this website.<br /><br />4. turbo cutting out. Soot build up on Turbo valve. Possibly caused by 3 above. Sorted it out thanks to this website.<br /><br />5. Parking sensor failed. Got one off ebay but it's still not working.<br /><br />6. Rear wiper continues wiping a few extra times after being turned off. Possibly frayed wire? Yet to investigate.<br /><br />7. Drive belt pulley sheared off as my wife was overtaking. Lost power steering and alternator. Fixed under warranty.<br /><br />8. The middle dashboard pocket doesn't pop up on it's own. Looking for Burrs.<br /><br />9. 8 bits of plastic have broken in the interior trim (left dashboard pocket cover's arm, Fuse box cover, Front Passenger seat recliner, 2X seat belt retainer in the middle row, 2 X knob to collase rear chairs, Passenger window switch)<br /><br />10. Engine hesitates around 1500 rpm.<br /><br />11. Heater stuck on. Fixed (fingers crossed) with help from this website.<br /><br />12. Pipe to turbo became loose causing plumes of black smoke to be sent out exhaust. New pipe needed<br /><br />I have been unable to get VAG-COM to communicate properly with my car. Currently have USB cable connected to Rosstech. Dumb mode says it has connected but will not scan without crashing the software.<br /><br />Overall I love the galaxy for it's space, the way it drives, the power in the engine, the fuel economy, the high up driving position. I'd be slow enough to recommend one though. Reliability to me is a big let down. (I would have bought one of these over an Espace for the reliability!!) A lot of the problems I have had are well documented on this website. How come Ford did not sort these during it's almost 10 year life cycle? The rear wash emptying into the front footwell?? What is that about? This issue was around from the start. Why didn't Ford simply use a longer pipe? The Ford TSB on the front footwell lists about 5 reasons for water in the front footwell. Not including the rear wash or blocked gutter that are on this website. Is it designed to keep water out or in?<br /><br />This website is great in one way but a serious worry in another. Great to have the solutions to these common problems. Worry how long until I encounter the rest.<br /><br />Does anyone else think the seats that face backwards are a pure gimmick! It takes ages to move them around. Any indoor picnic is over by the time you have them turned.

  1. I never had a problem where the unit wouldn't light up. My problem was that the temperature control was not working. It was constantly on hot tyring to melt us. I took the unit out. Made sure the wires at the back were connected properly. Put it back and it worked from then on. Not the most technical of answers but it wouldn't cost you anything to try it. Kieran
  2. Hi All, The door lining of my left rear passenger door is coming away from the door. I want to take it off completely to see what catches are broken. How does one take these off? Is it just a case of brute force? I can't see any screws etc. The door card came back in this state from my local garage who were repairing a faulty window switch in that door. When I showed them the door lining flapping they said they never removed it. If that is the case how does one remove the window switches? Can they be prised out? A second one has gone in the front. Fingers crossed my electrics aren't heading in the wrong direction. Thanks, Kieran
  3. I didn't notice this in the first few days of test driving but there seems to be scuttle shake from my Alhambra. What I mean by this is that is there is creaking when the car hits some B roads. It seems to be coming from somwhere around the middle of the car as if the body is flexing ever so slightly and the plastic on the pillars etc. is bending or rubbing off the metal. I never noticed this on my prevous Galaxy. In fact I never noticed this on my Alhambra until my brother took a quick test drive in the car and left the handbrake on for the first hundred yards. Has anyone else experienced similar? Also, I noticed yesterday a trail of moisture down the length of my windscreen. About a foot to the left of the rear view mirror there is a trail of marks as if there was water running down the windscreen. It's as if water was running down there and left a mark when the small beads of moisture left in it's wake dried out. It's probably just a leaking windscreen seal. But the freaky thing is I had the exact same thing in my old Galaxy. It was in the very same spot, about a foot to the left of the rear view mirror. Has anyone else seen this?
  4. As others have said on here despite the problems I think it's the best car in the class. I had a 01 115PS TDI LX and had a mountain of problems with it. Drive belt came off due to sheared pulley, Water in passenger footwell, MAF sensor failed, Windscreen wiper had a mind of its own, Pipe to turbo came loose causing plumes of smoke from exhaust, Parking sensors failed, at least 6 bits of plastic broke in the cabin, air conditioning could not be fixed despite mountain load of cash being poured into it, Heater stuck on once or twice. So when it came to changing I was sorely tempted by an Espace. In the end I decided to stay with what I know as I thought the Espace would be unreliable!! So I now have a 03 Alhambra 115PS TDI It's much easier to appreciate the car when it is not going wrong the whole time!
  5. So do we have a complete list of all competitors and definitive reasons why Shalaxy is best? Voyager: poor fuel economy, tax on large engines, drives like a barge. Espace/ Grand Espace: Zafira: Too small, back seats tiny, middle bench inflexible. Previa: Galaxy MK 3: Rattles from overhead bins, flimsy seats, no access to rear row from boot, raised floor when all seats down. C8/ 806/ Ulysse: Sedona: KIA badge, tax on large engines Hyundai Trajet: S-Max: Avensis Verso: Multipla: FR-V: Grand Scenic: Mazda 5: Touran: Back seats too small. When I was purchasing what swayed me was perceived reliability (how wrong was I?), space and a nice drive. I think the Galaxy MKII still has it over the competition in certain areas. Can someone fill in the good and bad points of the above list?
  6. This post is almost an echo of magpye's. My heat was also stuck on. All the other controls were working (well apart from the AC but that's kai-boshed and even that was lighting up.) but the the hot was intermittently staying on in an attempt to cook the passengers. Thanks to midhertsgalaxy I was able to prise off the facia as he says and remove the 4 tork screws and remove the control unit. I wasn't able to detach the wires at the back but made sure they were fully seated and returned everything the way it was. Result: the heat worked fine when tested. As the problem was intermittent and I didn't actually change much I have my fingers crossed that it's sorted. However one word of warning. I had my flat screwdriver embedded in the fascia and was levering pretty hard. The fascia was flexing and bending. I had slipped another one in alongside it. I was at the point of going to give it one hard shove to either get it off or break the bloody thing. when out of cautiousness I dug out my TIS Cd to check could this really be the way to go. From this I realised that the bit of fascia to prise out is the black bit directly around the heater controls. ie the one with 3 circles cut out of it. I was prising away at the silver bit that surrounds all the buttons and radio and heater controls. Just a word of warning for the destructive types like myself.
  7. My sensors stopped working like everyone above. Continuous 4 second beep when engaged and then nothing but a flashing light in the switch. So using the tip on this forum I went around to each sensor listening for the clicking. I found one at the back that was not making any noise so I got on to Ebay and ordered: Reversing sensor 7M3 919 275A Ford Part no: 1 208 836 this arrived and I stuck the sensor in the bumper. :31: Still no joy. :D So I checked for the clicking again. All sensors are making a noise, including the replacement. However the replacement is clicking twice as fast as and a bit louder than all the others. I haven't been able to get my laptop to talk to VAG-COM yet. Without this could anyone suggest what could be the problem? Could it be the park assist module. I did have the puddle in the front. Or a dodgy replacement sensor? :16: Kieran
  8. Hi all, I have the following problems : 1. Air con bust. Has been since we bought it. Nissan main dealer where we bought it have failed to fix it. Ford garage failed to fix it. Ford said they fixed it mind. Just didn't. 2. Water in the front footwell. Pipe for rear wash used to spray water under carpet. Fixed this by reading this website. More water since it came back from the ford garage. I went investigating and possibly made it worse by putting the plastic panel at the top of the engine bay back wrongly. I didn't slot it into all the catches. I suspect Ford may have done the same! Plastic panel fitted correctly now and fingers crossed. 3. Complete lack of power. The MAF sensor had failed. Sorted it out thanks to this website. 4. turbo cutting out. Soot build up on Turbo valve. Possibly caused by 3 above. Sorted it out thanks to this website. 5. Parking sensor failed. Replacement one ordered from Ford. Wrong one arrived. Replacement one ordered from Ebay. Fingers crossed. 6. Rear wiper continues wiping a few extra times after being turned off. According to Honestjohn.co.uk this may be caused by water in the motor. I haven't got around to doing anything with it yet. (Any links to threads on this?) 7. Drive belt pulley sheared off as my wife was overtaking. Lost power steering and alternator. Fixed under warranty. 8. The middle dashboard pocket doesn't pop up on it's own. 9. 7 bits of plastic have broken in the interior trim (left dashboard pocket cover's arm, Fuse box cover, Front Passenger seat recliner, 2X seat belt retainer in the middle row, 2 X knob to collase rear chairs. 10. Engine hesitates around 1500 rpm. Overall I love the galaxy for it's space, the way it drives, the power in the engine, the fuel economy, the high up driving position. 9. So do we pull them off (careful now!) or what? I got a few badges from Ebay and am yet to fit them. They seem ever so slightly bigger than the originals.
