  1. Dumb question...how do you tell if the tyre you have fitted is the re-inforced version that Galaxies need? I've just had some new front tyres, and have decided to take a break from the dunlop sports and try Toyo Proxies - the CF1C. Hunting around the Toyo website I couldn't see a reference to the tyres being re-inforced....any thoughts? cheers mikef
  2. Possibly the slowest reply of all time...but I run my tyres at exactly the recommended pressures, and check them every two weeks. Pump 'em up when I go on hols fully laden, take 'em down when I get home.... The latest pair seem to be doing well at 9000 miles, so will see how they go cheers
  3. Picked up a replacement in the local Ford dealers...just over a tenner. Clipped right on. Thanks!! Now just have to sort that glow plug on the aux heater... mikef
  4. In the light of day the damage to the mirror casing wasn't too bad, with a bit of wrangling its now sitting back on the black frame ok, so it looks like I may get away with just buying a new mirror rather than a whole unit. It looks like the mirror just fits on the round backing with some clips, will do some digging... cheers
  5. Peering at it in torchlight...the casing is cracked and split, the glass is gone cimpletely...but the inner control knob still works and moves the 'pad' that the mirror was attached to. Will look up how to replace, as you say the problem is going to be the colour cheers mike
  6. Thanks Guys...will check out that link later mike
  7. Just had a call from my wife...she has managed to trash the passenger door mirror (casing and glass). Before I call Ford...is it possible to buy door mirrors and fit them yourself? I guess I'm lucky in that its not an electric mirror (LX spec), but I dont know if any joints to the door control are broken at all. I dont know if you can buy the mirrors already painted? Any pointers? Cheers all! mikef
  8. Now that winter is approaching, its time to pull my finger out and try fitting a new glow plug (to avoid being laughed at as I drive along putting out huge amounts of white smoke...). Does anyone know where you can find them these days? Theres a great thread on here which details how to do the job, so will spend an evening or two reading up... cheers all mikef
  9. Am just starting to look at doing this on my Galaxy (after Ford told me yesterday I need a whole new unit...not at those prices thank you!!) . My quetsion is - if I replace the plug, do I need to do something with software, or will it just work automatically? Am about to plough through this thred to work out where to get the plug from for a 2002 Galaxy. cheers all mikef
  10. I'm sorry...reading around I think I meant Booster Heater....its getting so bad now you can smell it inside the car cheers mike
  11. HI All I've been reading through the notes on here about the dreaded white smoke from the heating system, and I am thining of having a go at replacing the glow plug thanks to some of the great info on here (even tho I class myself as a mechanical buffoon...) What I have noticed tho is that the smoke doesn not just come from the end of the heating exhaust, but the length of the exhaust and where it joins the body of the heater. Do you think that could indicate other problems in the system? And is there a way to disable it, maybe by removing a fuse? Its embarrassing for the first ten mins or so with other drivers pointing at me... cheers all mike
  12. Very probably Mk2...it was raining so much yesterday I decided to put it off till next weekend..! cheers
  13. Thanks again. I just found that Haynes don't do a manual for a post 2000 Galaxy, Maybe I'll have to look at those dodgy CDs... Not sure how easy it is to get to the fog light housing, hopefully if the weather holds I will have a go tomorrow cheers mikef
  14. [ I'm sure that site I sent a link to has those units aswell (it was the outer one in the rear wing that I replaced on mine.) but I think they are a little more expensive. When I was getting prices from breakers they were a gtood bit more expensive than buying brand new from that site and Frauds was well over
  15. Thanks Guys, that site looks reasonably priced. Getting home last night, the broken unit is the part of the light thats in the rear door on a 2002 Galaxy...the 'inner' bit that has the foglight. I'm guess ng thats a bit more tricky to get to as I must have to remove part of the door lining. I'll hunt around for a 'hopw to' but maybe it's time to go look see if there is a Haynes manual for the Gal! Cheers for the replies mike
  16. Just spoken to my wife, she seems to have somehow cracked the plastic on the rear brake light...any pointers on how easy it is to replace the ligh tfitting? And suppliers? I assume if I ask Ford at the next service it will cost me squillions... cheers mike
  17. Cheers. I could swear this morning thatthe smoke wasn't just coming from the exhause itself, but the body of the unit as well, though it was a bit hard to tell. And it made a terrible noise when I turned the engine off. For a unit thats just over a year old its not impressive, if its broken altogether I might not do anything about it, as the last one cost in the region of
  18. Cheers NikpV...did you have to remove parts of the exhaust system? I might have a go, tho confess to being a numptie when playing with cars... cheers mikef
  19. Is this what causes the aux heating system to kick out huge amount of smelly smoke? Mine has just started doing that, and I'm not totally sure its actually heating anything up....is it easy to install? cheers mikef
  20. Thanks for the reply guys....wiperblades.co.uk sell Bosch ones that seem to just fit on straight away (to an 02 Galaxy), I dont need new arms. Or the rubber replacement route sounds interesting cheers all mikef
  21. What are the latest opions on which blades to get? Is it worth spending
  22. Thanks for the replies all...I foudn the Dunlops a lot quieter than the Bridgestone, which just seemed to go on forever (I think my Bridgestone rears lasted 35,000 miles or maybe a touch more). Going through the threads, Continental Eco used to be recommended. I use a place down south called Micheldever Tyres, I'll give them a call and see what they have in stock cheers miekf
  23. Do any of you guys use Dunlop Tyres? On my Galaxy, I can only get around 11,000 miles out of a pair on the front. Maybe a little more...I know they are soft but that seems v low to me. I went to Dunlops from Bridgestone, as I found the Bridgestone very noisy. Whats the latest thinking on tyres...used to be Continentals that were recommended in these forums? cheers all mikef
