  1. Thats interesting...when you say you have seen parking sensor wiring degrading, whereabouts on the car did you see it? My rear sensors rendomly report things that arent there...they may work one day, but not the next, then work on one revese, but not on anaother a moment later...I've been hunting underneath for any obvious shorts that could be due to wire movement. I've checked all of ther sensors, and they seem to work (clicking/ticking) cheers! mikef
  2. I had thw white smoke issue for a while last winter...then toward the end it stopped producing smoke, and stopped heating...thes elast few days of cold waether have reminded me that I need to look at it again. If it isnt heating, or producing smoke, is tehre a logical next step to look at, or do you think its beyond redemption? cheers mikef
  3. Cheers..the tangs are fine...its getting the metal rods back into the hinges without breaking the plastic thats my problem! I'm under orders not to mess it up....
  4. Cheers SK, it looks straight forward, even though it isnt quite where I thought it was! I have been getting some off problems with what looks like condensation on the outside of the window, and I'm wondering if this is related somehow now that I have seen its position. I'll have to check the last service statement to see if they did change it. I guess it will cost a lot of
  5. I'm in the middle of replacing the resistor pack for my heater blower controls, and I remember reading in a thread that one possible cause of the resistor pack failing is that it overheats due to a blocked pollen filter. I know the pollen filter is in the same area as the resistor pack, has anyone a pointer on how to find the filter, how to check it, or how easy it is to replace? cheers all! mikef
  6. You know how there are some things you shouldnt start when its late and dark and raining....? I've just taken out my glovebox to check my resistor pack (yes, it is green!). But I cant get the darn thing back in! Is it a case of forcing the metal hinge pins back into the plastic holders first? The plastic pieces look very fragile to me, so I'm leaving it till tomorrow evening to fix now... I also cant see how to put that top 'flap' back in place, but will worry about that tomrrow! cheers mikef
  7. Reading aruond the forum, it looks like the part number I need is 1104837 (a green one for none climate control...). I cant find any at parts stores online or at a scrappie, so its back to Ford and
  8. Thanks, nice to know its a simple job. I'll work out later the part number for a 2002 Galaxy then hunt around the internet!! Cheers mikef
  9. Cheers...I've had a look round the forum and found the references, but theres no 'how to'...does it simply plug in? When I had to change resistors becuase of a similar problem on my other car, it was a day off work, remove most of the dash, solder new resistors in place...quite a faff! ta! mikef
  10. After playing about on the drive earlier, it seems like the fan isn't working with the blower in positions 1 and 2, but does in positions 3 and 4. I'm not too clear why that would turn off the air con but guess thats the problem. I'll go searching for 'none working fan' notes cheers all mikef
  11. Had a strange new problem today...I have a 2002 Galaxy, just basic air-con, not climate control. With the fan switch in poistions 1 and 2, the aircon works as normal, move the blower to position 3 and 4, the air con turns off (well, the light on the air con switch goes out). Anyone come across tis before? cheers mikef
  12. Cheers Sparky, yes that size is correct. I'm pretty sure that the Bridgestone ER30 and Dunlop sp200 are both reinforced in that spec, if you check out blackcircles.com they are labelled up as Van Tyres rather than Car Tyres. The Bridgestone are what Ford themselves fit (I have two on the rear at the moment, I'll have a look this evening to see if they have an R or XL to indicate reinforcement). Theres also a Continental Vanco Contact in that spec, but its not clear that it is re-inforced. So it looks like I am pretty much restricted to a choice of two tyres...hmm...time for a new Galaxy maybe! cheers all mikef
  13. After reading through a whole host of other notes, I decided to go looking for either Continentals or Goodyear Optigrip...however, for my tyre size (195/60 R16 99/97H) it seems I am limited to either Bridgestones or Dunlop SP 200s. Nothing else seems to be coming up. One garage said I might be Ok to go with not putting re-inforced tyres on it, but I'm unwilling to take the risk to be honest... I've found Bridgestones to be hard wearing but noisy in the past, Dunlops were Ok but soft. I guess with my model (2002 TDI Galaxy) I'm just limited.. cheers mikef
  14. HI All I need to get some new tyres on the front (2002 Galaxy TDI)...I've had Toyo Proxes for over a year now, I posted on here about my dislike of them at the time and my opinion didn't change! So I'm not sure where to go next...I've had Dunlop SPs before, which were great but very soft, only a year (10,000 miles) out of them. Bridgestone were OK, but I found them very noisy on motorways. I dimly recall that the Continental brand were recommended in these parts previously? cheers all mikef
  15. Wiggled the wires behind the bumper but to no avail...any thoughts on next steps anyone? cheers mikef
  16. Hi - all of my rear sensors seem to work ( all of them 'tick'), so I'm not quite sure what to do next. I read on one of the threads here that people had disconnected the sensors at the bumper and cleaned up the connection which worked for some...so I thought I'd give it a go! Happy to buy people pints or sticky buns if anyone could help! :-) mike ps - the problem I have is that the rear sensors detect things that aren't there, then produce one long continous tone. Its only once the sensors stopped working properly that I realised how much I rely on them!!
  17. My job tomorrow is to apply liberal doses of WD40...if that fails I'll get one of the VAG cables, and I'll go hunting for the posts on how to get them and use them...Any ideas on what else I could look for while I'm under the car? cheers mikef
  18. I have the problem of the rear sensors finding something that isnt there, giving a continous tone as soon as reverse is engaged...after reading through these notes, I've gone listening/feeling for the ticking sound, and all of them are making it. Am I correct in thinking that even if they are all ticking, it doesnt mean they are necessarily working properly, and the only way to diagnose from here is to get the VAG lead? cheers! mikef
  19. In the spirit of 'it never rains but it pours..'...the Galaxy developed a fault with its rear parking sensor yesterday. When you put the car in reverse, it comes on and stays on...I've cleaned up the sensors on the bumper to no effect...so I guess its some sort of worn switch or connection? Any thoughts on where to look or if its something an amateur could fix gladly appreciated.... cheers mikef
  20. Thanks for the replies all I assume to check the fault codes I need to take it to a Ford specialist, a general car repair place would not have the right equipment? cheers mikef
  21. Thanks...will go find my manual to see where that all is and how to get to it. If it is the VNT, is that a big expensive job to fix? cheers
  22. Cheers Chaps...she gets serviced regularly, just had one a couple of weeks ago in fact. looks like I will have to beook her into my local dealership and part with vast amounts of money... BTW - whats a VNT? cheers mike
  23. This happened a couple of times over the weekend...the Galaxy (2002 1.9tdi) would loose power and start slowing down, you would have to drop through the gears trying to keep the revs up, but it was getting more and more sluggish and not maintaining speed. Both times the car had been going for at least an hour, so the engine wasn't cold. Both times were on motorways..the first time we pulled into a service station, left her for half an hour, then she was fine when we started her up. The second time was on an exit slip road...while we queued at lights we turned the engien off, then back on again, and she was fine... I guess I'm going to have to book her into a Ford garage to get her looked at, but any thoughts on what it might be? cheers! mikef
  24. Thanks SK...I can't see any of those words or marks on the tyres anywhere, but then I can't see them on the rears eitehr. My manual doesn't specify re-inforced tyres for my tyre size, though it does for some others....I might contact Toyo directly. cheers mike
