  1. I picked up a used sensor for the rear of the car from Ebay, and it arrived today. I'm just messing underneath to replace the broken one...but I cant seem to get the old one off. It must just clip into the power cable, but is there something else holding it in place that I can't see? cheers! mikef
  2. Well, fitted a new switch at the weekend (
  3. Thanks...hope mine goes smoothly! m
  4. I'm (eventually) getting round to fitting a new parking sensor...its been a couple of years since they stopped working properly... I think that actually fitting it is a simple mechanical exercise that takes a couple of minutes...but will I have to reset something in the engine management unit (clearing down faults?) before they start working properly again? cheers mikef
  5. So after some investigation (aka 'messing about') I think its the switch thats the problem, so off to ebay I go...anything I need to be aware of? I guess its a unit which contains both switches that I need... cheers
  6. Cheers SK
  7. Prompted by my recent thread on the motor and regulator for the window...there seem to be plenty of parts for sale on ebay, tho' a lott seem to be made by other manufacturers...if I want to find the 'official' Ford part number for my model, is there an easy way to track it down? cheers mikef
  8. I will be having a better look at the problem this weekend...if its not too cold to work outside!! This has sparked a more generic thought tho...if I want to find the Ford part number for something, is there an online utility that lets me do that? cheers
  9. Had a quick look on ebay...there seem to be a lot of non OEM versions up for sale...which is interesting...at least I now know that I neeed a multi pin version for the one-touch functionality, which I hadnt realised before...
  10. Good suggestion on the switch...I've already tried the hand-assisted approach and no joy I'm afraid! cheers
  11. Cheers SK, I did check the wiring in the gator and cant see any obvious problems, but I will re check...have just been playing, and the window will go down in stages with several presses of the switch. Then to get it back up you keep using the switch over and over and it goes up in tiny steps, then it doesnt respond, then goes up a bit more...took about ten minutes to get the window all the way up. thanks m
  12. Hi, thanks for the suggestion. I just checked and the loom looks fine... There are lots of motors on ebay, just need to make sure I get the right part. cheers
  13. HI Everyone, hope you are all well. The drivers door window on my 02 Galaxy has become very erratic in its operation. Ford tell me I need a new Window Motor and Regulator, and have kindly offered to fit one for a little over
  14. So, had the Galaxy serviced today...my parking sensor failure is the passenger rear outer one apparently, and quote of
  15. Interesting...just this last week my Galaxy has started having the exact same problem....looks Like I am going to have to splash oput on the software and cables to star t doing some diagnosis... cheers mikef
  16. All done...managed to do it without removing the housing...I think the cold helped because I couldnt feel the pain in my fingers as I wrestled with the clips :-) Though now I notice that the sidelight has gone as well. I wish my wife would mention all of these things in one go... cheers all mikef
  17. Cheers Chaps...if I remove the headlight unit aren't I in danger of affecting the headlight alignment? I'll have a firtle about tomorrow thanks
  18. So my worst nightmare has come true, I have to fit a new dipped beam bulb on the passenger side of the Galaxy (2002 Tdi). I remember that the driver side took me an age, and the passenger side looks like it has major access issues... Any hints n tips on how to tackle it? My wife did ask the chap at the Ford garage, but they wanted
  19. All sorted now...am
  20. Thanks Mirez!! No need to worry about sizes? (..and no, I have no idea what my radio code is of course!! :-) ) cheers
  21. My wife found that the battery is totally flat this morning...and to my embarrasment, I realise I have never changed a battery myself...! The mechanics look straightforward (start with the negative...), the battery seems to be held in place with one clamp at the front. If I try and get to Halfrauds for a new battery, anything I should be aware of? Should I look for a specific size of battery (for a 2002 TDI Galaxy...)? I've written out the capacity (12v 340A), and the manual says I should get a silver/calcium battery (though it doesnt reference this on my current battery). Any thoughts appreciated!! cheers mikef
  22. SK, thanks for this thread, I'll be trying this on my 02 Gal next weekend. One question though, the bulkhead extension has a rubber seal on it, which I cant make out in your pics...does that slide out once you have removed the three bolts? its the strip of rubber which runs the width of the car, above that central bolt. cheers mikef
  23. Thanks Mirez, I've been doing some hunting on what VAGCOm is, doesnt look too frightening. I was reading a thread which listed the glow plugs at VW, and these fit the Galaxy, so will have a dabble.. cheers mikef
  24. Thanks for the reply Mirez!! I'll try disconnecting sensors one at a time to see what effect that has. On a heater note, my heater now no longer produces white smoke, or makes any kind of 'turbine' noise, and produces no warm air...is this likely to still be a glow plug issue or something more serious? Its interesting reading the comments about short journeys. My wife uses the car to drive to work, which takes about ten to fifteen minutes, and I wonder if thats whats has killed two heaters now... cheers mikef
  25. Thanks for posting that Bigjeeze...it makes the process look straightforward (though I suspect that in practice you spend a lot of time ttrying to loosen up nuts and need gallons of penetrating oil!!). I'll have to invest in the VAG software, I'm not totally convinced that my problem is just the glowplug now. cheers mikef
