Thanks so much Mike for the fast response, The whole car shakes looking at the engine its shaking quite badly, does the exhaust really have that much of an effect on performance, sorry for my ignorance, what does the back part of the exhaust really do? The car has been running rough for almost a year now, but has now got really bad, hence my thinking its the cambelt initially and getting it replaced.

Hi Can anyone please help.... I have a 2001 1.9 Galaxy MK2. On startup there is a hammering sound, like hammer hitting metal twice, starts up fine, then..... The whole care is shaking. I have had the cambelt changed so 100% not the cambelt, now..... I took the car for MOT today it failed on emmissions and corrosion on the back exhaust,... upon inspection the back exhaust is actually rocking side to side detached from the rest of the exhaust system due to rust, my question is this...... is it possible that the backbox not being attached could have caused all the problems i am having? Please let me know ASAP.
