  1. Thanks Fred, yes posi drive I understand. It seems to me that the door panel has two parts (upper and lower), I am right or not? If not, it is one piece only, does it mean a necessity to remove the inner door handle? V.
  2. I agree with Fred and Ivor. I have the same problem, just going to uncover the door next weekend. I can even see one torn off wire in the rubber boot There was well transparent explanation of Fred "how to remove the door panel". Let me just small question, what does it mean "philips headed screw"?? V.
  3. Hi all, is someone using engine diagnostic software VAG-COM? As I understood it exists as shareware too. Any experience? V.
  4. ... just lifted up again Let me to raise the Cruise Control problem question again. I have exactly the same problem as oddypsx mentioned 2 months ago. I bought 1,9Tdi, 01 as second hand with not working cruise control. It is not so critical fault but anyway, it should work. What exactly the cruise control does? I assume that it (the unit at driwing wheel)contains switches only and sends signals to ECU. Right, or there is some electronics inside also? I know that ECU has to accept the cruise control, it means that ECU has to be set to allow cruise control working. Perhaps this flag in ECU memory was knocked down and has to be set again. Some other suggestions concerning not working cruise control? V.
  5. .... and where ire "The Yank TDI sites " ?? V.
  6. My nick has origin in France, it is the name of the mount near Avignon (take a globe back please), I think more less every Tour de France passes over this peak.... As for repairing I am rather shocked by the level of servicing in UK - it looks as the same!! I have Gal recently, I just went to authorized garage or service (as we say) only once to install so called "defend lock" (you know it, I guess). The price was ~226Euro (OK, not so bad) but: 1) it was difficult to gear #2 and #4 after mounting - they said "after some time it should better" 2) they lost the steering wheel locking arm (you understand what I mean) which was on the carpet in the car: they claimed "we never saw such thing in your car" The arm is obviously useless without right key, they simply lost it. May I trust them? So I am just in a phase "looking for reliable garage" but someone has told me recetly "skilled people do not work at authorized dealer!"
  7. Thanks for your reply SA, it was interesting to read. By the way, we have quite similar education. Electric trains.... when I was in UK, I remember some jokers droped down on the rails a bike, you can imagine what happend after... Stop rolling a globe on the carpet, Ivor was right. V.
  8. SA, I am sorry but you completely failed! May I also ask you a question? You are very familiar with Galaxy. I would say, if you would open a garage tomorrow, many people of this forum would come with their Gals may be even me, in spite of long distance! Cars are not only your hobby, I am pretty sure that your job is somehow related to cars reparation. Am I right? V.
  9. SA, you haven't hit yet! V.
  10. Well, Ivor, my galaxy was sold in Austria. Fredt, I am not sure but I think that ESP is called traction control. But I do not have this feature. For this I would have dedicated ESP button on radio/clim panel. ASR is based on the reduction of power when wheels start to creep. But certainly this does not work on 100% in practice. As I said, it seems to be better when driving on grassy hilly cart road (to get to my house) comparing with my previos car. HJT, it it certainly good idea. How shall I stop the alarm after if really start to be noisy?? Alarm Man, (authorized person) yes, there is such switch. Does it prove the alarm existance?? I know the switch because the dash comp beeps when the bonnet is opened. Cheers, V.
  11. When I bought my Tdi 2001 few weeks ago the seller claimed that the car has ASR and do not have Alarm. How can I be sure that I have ASR? It does not seem to be obvious however I see creeping wheels very rarely. Certainly it better then my previous car (Vauxhall Astra break) but it could be due to better tyres on Galaxy. The seller said I have no alarm. However when the car is locked the red LED in the door is flashing. Also I thought alarm is standard for facelifted Gal. What shall conclude? V.
  12. Fredt, thanks a lot. I think that you just made a lot of things clear! Sincerely, I appreciate pretty much all your very valueable posts in this Forum! V. PS: if you will have time, could you have a look at "cruise control" in the technical section?
  13. Let me to return to the key programming problems. I have read all the posts here concerning this issue. Firstly, may I understand that the code for remote locking/unlocking has nothing to do with the code for immobiliser? Or there is one common code for both systems? If I will use the "door programming procedure" may it affect the immobiliser? If I will change the battery in the remote will it bring risc that I will not be able to restart my car? Being rather confused now..... I have 2 keys for my Tdi 2001, one remote and one common. The remote one does not work as remote. What shall I do? Change the battery or try the door procedure? Cheers, V.

  15. OK, thank you to calm me down.... Is there any difference in terms of reliability of Galaxy/Sharan/Alhambra trio? Probably you will answer NO, because they are all built in the same factory line in Portugal. But seems to me that the most atractive for many is Sharan. Also the rating at parker's ( http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/car_revi...s.asp?family=mp ) is higher for Sharan. Is the difference just in a badge, slight shapping of car body and interior details, having nothing with the reliability? Or something more? V.
  16. Hi all, being an owner of galaxy 1,9Tdi since the last month only I am little bit disapointed to read here about faults and problems only. Where are those who are driving an galaxy for a thousands miles without any problems?? Silent or really non-existing? Or shall I belive that galaxy is indeed rubish, that the construction is so complicated that the car can not be reliable and always is something dying? ventoux
  17. Firefly, I have to say honestly that I do not trust to ebay too much. In fact I am not willing to release the number of the credit card already at registration process... Would you be willing to provide a cd copy for couple money? ventoux (e-mail: mventoux@yahoo.com)
  18. Yes Nick, you are right, there are two heating pads. But I am pretty sure they are connected in serial, not parallel. How difficult is get them out? Is it really nasty work? V.
  19. Fred, I am looking for TIS CDs. Where I can get them? Does anyone have this CDs and is willing to provide a copy for some reward?? I need it for 1,9TDi ; 10/ 2001. Haynes for newer cars does not exist anymore, unfortunately... Ventoux
  20. Hi folks, I have Galaxy 1,9TDi manufactured in 2001 (new version). I bought it recently as second hand. The seat heating for the front seat does not work and the problem is obviosly in the seat iteself. Does anyone idea how difficult is to repair it? I guess there should be a heating coil inside.... Does exist a manual for the new model of Galaxy? I understand that Haynes stopped already to publish any car manuals. In such case one is not able to repair anything himself... Thanks for reactions Ventoux
