I'm sure it didn't do it until recently but I now notice a fair bit of smoke on cold startups and when accelerating hard even when the engine is warm. It doesn't appear to be using any oil. About 2 months ago it went in for a Fraud service and cambelt change. I don't recall the problem before that. Any help please!!! Runs smoothly (well as smooth as a diesel gets) and no problems starting. Thanks

The reinforced part comes from the need to carry extra load. When the Galaxy first came out they were not required, but there was a recall and they all had to have reinforced/extra load tyres fitted (so my Ford dealer told me). The minimum load rating for the Gal tyres is 95 (eg 215/55 r16 97W ; where the 97 is a higher load capacity than 95 and W is the speed rating). The Fortunas are 97 and marked XL for eXtra Load! If you do a search on the forum for previous tyre threads you will see other similar explanations.

With VW's or Ford Galaxy's it can be done via the climate control (if you have it) Can you go on to explain how, or where one might find out?........ -
Just replaced the noisey Dunlop 2020s on the front of mine. Had intended to go via mytyres.co.uk (3% forum discount available - see seperate posts) for the Fortuna F2000 215/55 r16 97W XL at about

Electric Window Bits To Identify
shepheap replied to craigm's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I'm having a problem with my passenger side window that could be being caused by one of the 2 brackets coming loose.........the window seems to be loose and rocks in the channels - not always closing fully unless I give one end a nudge. If you did take a picture of the stripped door and the mechanism could you post it please???????? This will help me to come up with a plan of action before I start to strip the door. Did you manage to get your door trim off without damaging the plastic clips????? -
Took mine to my local garage on Friday as the air con did not seem as cool as it coul have been. Evacuated the system, vacuum test etc for about 45mins. Found that only 10% of gas had been lost over 3yrs!!!!! Cooling problem was due to lack of air flow.... the pollen filter was blocked! Despite this the vents were being chilled to 1.5 deg C. Garage wanted 1hr labour to change hte pollen fileter so I had a go myself following the instructions from this site. Easy to get hte filter out but a sod to get back. In the end I fed the filter back in to the housing without the frame and then fed the frame in and joined the 2 together in situe. Much easier. Much cooler now. Change the filter regularly!

Got mine back yet again yesterday after nearly 7 weeks of it being worked on since the flywheel failed. They have now replaced the flywheel + clutch (as per the recall), MAF, MAP, reprogrammed ECU, Turbo, turbo pipes, and this time the engine mounts top and bottom to try and overcome the vibration coming from the engine. It still isn'nt right as there is still more vibration than there should be but far less than before the mounts were replaced. It now feels as though the vibration is being 'contained' in the engine as opposed to being transferred to the car body if that makes sense. The steering wheel is also no longer straight and the gear box feels notchy at times. Its going back again next week to see what they can try and replace this time. I keep suggesting the engine, but they are not taking the hint! Problem is that I am now out of warranty and they are not as willing, despite the fault occuring prior to the expiry on 10 May. Any ideas what else could be wrong? It just feels as though the engine is slightly 'out of balance'.

I have a 1.9 130bhp, and although having not yet towed with it, bought it specifically for the towing capability. This was partly based on some friends who have a 115bhp 1.9 Seat. There are six of them in the car towing the 18ft caravan which contains 5 bikes the awning and all the usual caravan add ons. They have always said how well it tows, but notice a considerable drop in economy from about 38-40mpg without caravan to 20-25 with. Personally I think that is a very good trade off as I previously had a 2.3 Turbo Volvo 940 that only did 23mpg on a run without towing!

Having deposited mine back with TC Harrison Ford, Peterborough with lack of power on Monday for the second time (they originally had it for 17 days to do the the flywheel after it failed completely, then 11 days with continued problems to replace the MAF and MAP sensor), ...... .....on Tuesday they phoned to say they thought they had solved it by replacing an 'Air intake pipe', found an oil leak and fixed it, but then found it was still wrong .... .....and then today phoned to say they had ordered a new turbo!!!! There can't be much left of any value to replace. But as long as they keep doing it under the warranty that ran out on 10th May I don't really care!!!

Anyone know if a 2004 original Seat Alhambra dog Guard will fit a 2003 Galaxy? Any knowledge of where I could get fitting instructions?? Thanks

Following the failure of my flywheel my local FOrd had the vehicle for 17 days waiting for parts etc. When they returned it the engine was still rough and underpowered and the gearbox (previously smooth) notchy. THey had it in for another 11 days, replaced the MAF and MAP sensor, reprogrammed the ECU and gave it back Saturday. This morning I gave it back to them as it still is rough and loses power after 2000rpm, has a notchy gear box and to top it all there is a tapping noise from what I think is the auxiliary heater fuel pipe when running. None of this was present prior to the failure of the flywheel. Happy days. :D

The LEDs sound like a great idea, but beware...... ...putting my Plod head on; all bulbs are only legal if they are 'E' marked, so after maket bulbs that are not 'as per manufacturers recommendation' frequently do not have the 'E' mark and are then 'technically' illegal. However, how many policemen do you know that go round taking bulbs out to check!!! The bigger problem would only arise if you were involved in an accident/rear end shunt and the insurance assessor came along and checked the bulbs - they potentially could refuse payout if the bulbs were not 'approved'. :D The same sort of argument applies to those who tint their rear light cluster to match the bodywork. Original kit was 'E' approved, but onece tinted is no longer. If rear shunted insurance companies are unlikely to pay out IF someone notices. Sad thing is that the LEDs are probably better!!!!

Loss Of Power And Rough Engine At Speed
shepheap replied to shepheap's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Beware:..... Picked the car up from local dealers last friday - all seemed well after the new clutch and flywheel were fitted under warranty but only had a slow drive home in traffic. Went to Oxford on Sunday and the engine seemed to be rough and lacking power - kept hearing a whistling noise form the turbo that wasn't there before. Told Ford I wasn't happy and arranged to take it in at the end of the week. Also drove firends 115bhp with twice the mileage last night and found that it was smoother, quieter and more powerful which confirmed my concerns over mine!! To top it all, today the BRAKE FAULT warning appeared on the dash with STOP!!!!! After much argument with Mr RAC (who wanted to start the engine and plug in his diagnotics which may have wiped th fault codes (apparently)) got it towed to Fraud dealers. Anyone got any good news about Galaxies (or should that be Galaxys?). I thought they were supposed to be reliable!! - I've had mine for 4.5 weeks and its spent 3.5 of those either in the workshop or feeling sick!!!!! <_< :D :D 5 dyas of Fraud warranty left - time to start praying I think! -
Loss Of Power And Rough Engine At Speed

Is it possible that my unbalanced and knackered flywheel has upset something else or shaken a pipe loose? They did say that the flywheel was "damaged beyond recognition" but I didn't see it myself. The engine sometimes feels as thoyugh it wants to perform but then settles for second best! I've only got 10 days of ford warranty left so I am keen to resolve it. -
Loss Of Power And Rough Engine At Speed

I've just been out and disconnected the MAF. Noticed a big drop in power with it disconnected and better connected, so I assume that it isn't that(?). Still seems odd that I get the turbo whistle and surge of power to start with and then the power drops away - not massive but I certainly notice the difference.
