Brake Pipes
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec replied to galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
It was just sections, but I can anticipate that removing some will mean that others will seize when trying to undo. Anyway, I will crawl under with wire brush and oily rag forst to clean them up. -
Vauxhall Vectra Forum

Hi Mike99, The warning light comes on at random, sometines goes for 300 miles without coming on, other times comes on and stays on for 40 mile joourney, other time comes on mid-journey and goes off again without stopping the car. There is no pattern to it, for example, today I travelled 80 miles, no light on. If it comes on, it normally stays on for the duration of the journey. I am lost for why it is coming on. -

Hi, Anyone experienced replacing brake pipes from master cylinder to the rear calipers ? Is it is 3 or 4 sections ? My 1999 Galaxy has rather alot of rust on these pipes for the MOT man to agree to. What should I get charged from a local non-Fraud garage for replacing them ? Thanks, Graeme

Hi, I have a 1999 Galaxy TDI, when I stick the heater to full blast (either hot or cold), I get next to no flow through the air vents. This is same when travelling at speed, or stationary, same if I select to blow at feet, face or windsreen. There is plenty noise to suggest the blower is blowing, but it does not seem to get anywhere. Any ideas ?

No Heat In Car
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec replied to davewill's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hiya, Just spent the apst hour reading this thread, I have the same problem with taking 25 minutes to get any heat through. What I also have is the noise of the heater fan (when set to top speed of 4) sounds like it is acting normal, but I dont get a great draught of air (hot or cold) through the vents. Is there any common fault that would give this fault ? Also, the glow plug for the aux heater - where do I find it on the car ? How do I check it ? - Do I just replace it regardless of condition ? Cheers, Graeme 1.9TDi Zetec -
Got the pistons on the caliper pushed back with the help of a g-clamp and a pair of pipe pliers. My biggest problem was getting the correct pads from the local parts shop, as my Galaxy seems to have VW disks / calipers / most running gear. I think it was made as a Sharan and they took the badges off and stuff Fraud ones on. Car ticking away nicely now

Brake Pads - How Long Left?
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec replied to Playpen's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I had a rumble in the back of the car, but there were no kids there. It was the rear pads down to the metal. No warning light though ?? The pad with the sensor was the one down to bare metal, so I might be looking at new disks too. I have the car in the garage just now and have tonight removed the OSR pads, just a wee visit to the auto shop tomorrow for the new pads. How do I push the cylinder back in ? -
Just heard same metal grinding, so I bought a set of FRONT pads. But, front pads are fine. Took off rear wheels and found problem there - down to bare metal. New pads in the morning ! If I open the bleed nipple, then clamp / rotate the cylinder - clockwise or CCW as I look towards the cylinder ? Cheers (Great Forum)

Good Morning, I am just after removing rear bumper on Gal MkII, doing a bit of re-enforment behind it (where it came in contact with a concrete bollard and became mis-shaped !!). I used araldite (2 piece - resin & hardener) to re-make some of the internal trims that were damaged - anyone got experience of using another sort of adhesive on the inside of the bumper ???? Graeme

Spare Wheel Nightmare
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec replied to galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Thanks Dave-G. ;) Thanks too for the kind comment concerning my nationality ! -
Hiya, Wondering if anyone has had a problem like this with the hoist for the spare wheel. Fortunatley I was parking at home when I noticed a slow puncture, how easy I thought to remove the spare wheel and slap it in place. The hoist dropped the wheel by about 1 inch then stopped. Using wheel brace spanner, I was loosening the 19mm nut on the floor just inside of the tailgate but the spare wheel would not drop. Eventually got the spare wheel removed from the car with the hoist unit still attached (by removing 2 x 13mm bolts) and managed to disingage the wheel from the broken hoist. Has anyone has experience to repair the hoists ? I had to drill out 6 stainless steel rivets to get access to the unit to find that the wire had become detached from the spool. Put it all back together, used 6mm nuts and bolts instead of the rivets (Thought that my 6mm aluminium pop rivets were too weak to hold the weight of the spare wheel ??). Not put the unit back into the vehicle yet, but is seems to be operational now. Let me know if anyone else had problems - well worth carrying a 13mm socket and long extension for a ratchet (to get through the "spokes" of the wheel) to remove the whole assy if you get stuck away from home. Take a carpet to lie on and a torch too ! Tara for the noo, Graeme

Problem Sensors

They are like Christmas tree lights, if one is out, they are all out. You need 8 good ones. There are a few postings about this already - stick in a search for "parking" -

Does Nitrogen Smell?
galaxy_1.9TD_Zetec replied to Ogben Schmutzel's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Not sure on the comment about "if it was nitrogen you should be dead". It is no secret that air is composed of approx 78% Nitrrogen. There is also approx 21% of Oxygen. The other 1% is made of various other gasses. However, it is not the breathing in of Nitrogen that would kill you, it would be the lack of Oxygen. Your body needs to be taking in Oxygen in order to keep the brain ticking. I would guess that if your Gal was leaking Nitrogen, then by the time you breath it in, it is diluted in the air and, unless your lips were glued to the place that was leaking, you would be as safe as the Crown Jewels. -
