  3. Thanks, i am getting them done a week on tuesday by a local mechanic, he isn't keen on doing the front ones because of the hassles with the rusty bolts, but i will start wd40 them every 2nd day from now. Hope that will make it easier to get off. I will post a couple of pics when i get it done. Thanks G
  4. Just had a set of Spax lowering springs (35mm) delivered this morning from POTN. Did anyone who has lowered springs fitted come across any problems when fitting? if so what can i do to overcome them? Thanks Graeme
  5. Thanks I did a search and there seems to be a step by step guide to fixing this DIY style, so i will give it a try. G
  6. Hello, My Gal's central locking doesn't lock all doors, the rear passenger door doesnt lock/unlock with the central locking. Also i noticed that the door will be unlocked on the inside and will not open on the outside.(child lock is on so i can't open from inside). Also i was hoovering out the car with the stereo on and all of a sudden all the interior lights went brighter and the stereo stopped working and doesnt work now. is this connected to the central locking problem?(noticed round the same time) i have checked fuses and are ok thanks G

  9. Sorry, my brakes have all been renewed fairly recently pads and discs all round. The problem seems only to be around when driving in heavy rain. The light is not on just now and there is now grinding noise or feel from the brakes as the weather is dry. ???? G
  10. Hi, Not only do i have a flashing glow plug light, i have an abs light now on. When applying the brake there is a sound of metal grinding. Has anyone any ideas as to what this could be. I posted earlier with " Flashing glow plug light" but have never got round to changing glow plugs yet. ( Got pulled over by traffic police to give me a ROUTINE CHECK on my astra van, and need to sort a couple of things on that first for its MOT) any help will be appreciated Thanks G
  11. Thanks will check it out. G I'm assuming you have a diesel since you called it the 'glow plug light' would help everyone to put your car details in your signature Sorry just edited mine the now
  12. Hello all, my glow plug light has been flashing whilst the car is being driven, there are now problems getting the car started or any noticeable performance issues. the car has done 80000 miles. Anyone any ideas as to what is causing the flashing light? I will be replacing the glow plugs on saturday(hopefully this will sort it) any help will be appreciated Thanks G
  13. Have you got a photo please? Not yet but i will get one done asap. G
  14. Squirt some wd40 in the lock and then the key should fit in, i had the same problem and now i don't. (i dont have central locking) G
  15. Hello, Today i fitted my new linkage from ford 296 pounds all in. Put the car back together and hey presto it works a treat. So i am now able to take my linkage out again and replace it. I just have to work on my hammer technique now and try and not break things. next time i will read threads more carefully!!! G
  16. Ok i never read instructions properly. What an expensive mistake that was eh!!! The money i had saved up in my secret stash will now not be used for 50mm lowering springs, i will have to buy the linkage mechanism. I have a friend who is a ford mechanic so i will speak to him to see if he is doing any special offers on the linkage  . Or i could always get the lowering springs the linkage and then tell my daughter that Santa didn't have any Nintendo DS left. G
  17. I thought i had a gentle touch. too much brute force. am i right in saying that there is a surclip on top of the spindle? I am nightshift just now and one of the guys said the reason i broke it was because i never took the surclip off (and soaked it in wd40) G
  18. Thanks Mum i will contact the seller and see if this is a standard part that will fit my 99 tdi? If so i will buy it and fit myself??? Thanks G
  19. Ok i will try them all on monday, i take it that it will be the same part for the seat VW and the Gal? thanks G
  20. No probs... i will want to copper grease the new one when i get it i hope i get it right . Do you think a motor factors will have one or should i go down the ford route.(i dont want one from a scrappy as this is a common fault) i am on fords website but they dont have a part search. G
  21. I am currently looking at part finder .com for one i need it kinda quick as its school hols this week and we are without a car now. Thanks for the help. i will post the outcome of my linkage problem with prices and where from etc G
  22. I rescrewed the bolt back on the spindle and then placed a bit of wood on top and hit it. I had the choice of hammers and chose just a normal 20 oz claw hammer. I have been told i have a touch like an elephant so with my 17 1/2 stone bulk i let it have it. I think i would prefer a new one rather than scrappy one seeing as its a common fault and my diy skills!!! G
  23. Well its just gone 8.30 pm on a saturday night and i managed to get the linkage out with a little help from a friend.... Took the linkage to workbench and fitted it to the vice. Screwed bolt on the spindle and then hit it with a hammer. nothing happened so i hit it again, and again. Still nothing happened so i hit it a bit harder and guess what? I managed to break the linkage in two. I am now looking for a new linkage mechanism so what is best, one from a scrappy, one from ebay or contact ford and get a new one? or does anyone recommend somewhere i could get one relatively quickly?( i probably should have soaked the spindle with wd40) Thank you G
  24. Looks great i am going to get my Gal lowered too. The wife wants new wheels as well!!! G
