  1. EGR pipe was blocked solid.... car driving very well now, still throwing up P1261/64/67/70 errors which seem to imply defective injectors or wiring
  2. when cold alsolutley no power In the past leaving car to idle for 5 mins to 'warm up' before been able to drive car. the problem slowly getting worse, now at random car is loosing ppower when actually driving. I have disconnected MAF, makes no difference. I was talking to a fella yesterday mentioned either dump vlave or egr system related issue. Using the basic VAG-COM software I got he following Error Codes: ******************* Wednesday, 09 September 2009, 09:00:30 VAG-COM Version: Release 409.1-US Control Module Part Number: 038 906 019 FC Component and/or Version: 1,9l R4 EDC G001SG 1562 Software Coding: 00002 Work Shop Code: WSC 00020 Additional Info: VSSZZZ7MZ2V526731 VWZ1Z0B2013082 4 Faults Found: 17675 - Pump-Jet Valve: Cylinder 3 (N242): Regulation Range Exceeded P1267 - 35-10 - - - Intermittent 17672 - Shareware Version. 3. I'm very pleased to report that its been 2 days since i fitted the new BLACK sensor. I cleared the temp sensor error after replacing it & so far the engine ecu is still error free. my wife reports that the 'mad revving' upon start up has not occured since the sensor was fitted. I'm flabergasted to think that a sensor can go internittently bad in the way that the old grey sensor did ... goes against all my electronic understanding. Fingers crossed, i won;t consider the car to be in good health until a week or more has passed
  4. I bought a new BLACK coolant sensor yesterday,
  5. I bought a new coolant sensor yesterday,
  6. i, myself, replaced the low pressure air con pipe of my wife Alhambra this evening. It cost me
  7. we're ok for another 14k miles then... cheers
  8. My wife's Alhambra has a timing belt replaced at 37,400 miles, now on the clock is 63,500miles. prior to she buying this car in Sept '05 the following parts were replaced: V045109244A: roller [ idle or tensioner? ] V045109243C: roller [ idle or tensioner? ] V038109119P: tooth belt 1. 2. What mileage interval is between the timing belt changes of a 1.9TDi? 2. What years/time interval is between the timing belt changes of a 1.9TDi? on this present belt there is <30k miles & < 3 years of service..... does it need replacing? if not how soon?
  9. With the key OFF press the Odometer reset button. Turn ON the iginition key Release the Odometer reset button Turn the CLOCK adjsuter button to the RIGHT Reset Complete.
  10. i went at the wiring loom for the engine sensor around where the sensor is fitted to the engine on saturday, twiddled & re positioned it. since the weekend its been working perfectly .... here's to hoping. BTW the auto fators couldn't get a new sensor for me. BTW: here are the car's error codes.
  11. to answer your questions YES & YES.... did you check the brake light switch/lights to see if they are operating ok? if the brake sw is defective cc won;t work.
  12. removed all the pipes & wiped them clean with a rag .... checked the intercoolers, doesn't seem to have much on in it.... oh well
  13. When looking at the temp sensor of my wife's alhamra I removed a couple of intercooler pipe to find a pool of oil in them. Obiviously this oil must be coming from the turbo? doesn't smoke alot or if at all. maybe this oil collection is 'normal' after all there is 63k miles on the clock. what is the best way to remove the intercooler to flush it out? any other tips or suggestions with regard to cleaning these pipes & reducing the chances of oil coming back in them?
  14. 1. air con flashing display most likely means there is no gas in the system or low pressure. a common fault is the low pressure piping cracks at the U bend coming form the compressor to a flexi pipe.... the pipe cost
  15. my wife's alhambra, its temp gauge behaves irraticly. often displaying 90 deg c when driving, while the oil shows approx 100 deg c.... then all of a sudden it drops back to < 50 deg c while the oil temp remains at 100 deg c. so it the problem the sensor itself or the connection att he sensor or wiring loom. I've order a new sensor, costing
  16. where on the 1.9 TDi engine is this sensor located? also *some times* the engine idles at 1100 rpm instead of 900
  17. if it were me i'd be looking at the timing belt or chain make sure its ok. if the nosie is from the starter then check the battery & earth connections
  18. the thermostat was stuck open, therefore allowing coolant to flow continously thro the rad... also the aux heater was not working until last monday so the cabin rarely got warm. now its like asauna
  19. Just back from a 5mile round the block trip, after 2 miles the temp was 60 deg c, after 3 it was 80. It stablised at 90 soon afterwards. The external temp was 10 deg C so i was expecting the aux heater not to be active BUT when i stopped the car the aux heater was "whinining away" .... even though the cabin heater was only set to 20 deg C, the cabin was like a sauna... a new experience for this car.
  20. Today I changed the thermostat of my wifes Alhambra.... took me 4 hours in total. ;) 1st hour, i removed & re-installed what i thought should be the thermostat housing, located between the head & the battery... its got a temp sensor in it... most other cars i've ever worked on had it located there.... stoopid VW  2nd hour was spent locating the "real location" of the thermostat..... behind the alternator, held in by two 10mm bolts ...top one is easy to acces sbut the lower one is not. in order to remove this housing you will need to: 1. slacken the tensioner & remove the aux belt 2. open the two long 13mm bolts that holds the alternator in place 3. open the nuts & catch the fluid...approx 1 gallon of course this is hind sight talking.... i actually removed the lower bolt by a "flexi" extension & alot of cursing...... then i lost the 10mm bolt behind the bracket that holds all the aux items onto the engine..... 3rd hour.... retreiving the 10mm bolt that was behind the bracket that hold all the aux parts.... eventually remove the front drivers side wheel & got in at the back of the bracket with a long piece of wire & pulled it towards the edge.... then a long nose pliers to lift it out..... fitting the new stat was very easy once the alternator was removed. 4th hour: re-fitting all the 'bits & bobs'... filling with PINK coolant & letting the car idle for a few min's in order to bleed the system... then a TEST DRIVE..... within 4 miles the temp gauge was at 80 .. the aux heater didn't need to activate I had one big scare, the car developed a mis fire & was bearly able to move in 2nd gear..... i plugged in the laptop & got this error: I know now what is means BUT at the time it took a bit of figuring out..... do you know how i fixed it. BTW the car is runing 100% perfect now, temp gauge sits at 90 deg C after a 6 mile spin PS: If any of you have a TDi engine that takes 10/15/20 miles ot heat up i'd advise replacing your engines thermostat....
  21. Amazingly, today the burner worked but the white smoke has ceased .... must have been alot of un-burnt fuel in the chamber + left over "carb cleaner" that i squirted in on Monday. Happy days, car heats up, no smoke, ---> wife happy, kids happy ... me happy !!! changing the stat on Saturday.... new stat & 5l of pink coolant waiting to be used/fitted
  22. mmm, it is normal for some smoke - even a large amount of smoke can be normal - and it could well be condensation. ...if its working, then there isnt a problem. only thing that could cause lots of excessive smoke, is over fueling, or a poor glow plug (MAYBE!) MJR my thoughts too ... my wif eis embarressed by the smoke & want sit disconencted.... how cna a fella win. BTW i got the new thermostat today, will fit it at the weekend,,,, that might help the aux heater smoke issue by the engine warming soone r& therfore turning the aux heater off sooner....wha ya think?
  23. Any idea why the aux heater is "billowing out hugh amounts of white smoke"... accoding to my wife that is... suggestions?
  24. got the new stat today, will fit at the weekend. now that i've gotten the aux heater working the wif eis complaining baout "ALL THE SMOKE" billowing from it..... ffs!!!
