Have a look here: http://www.rotationuk.com/gbu0-display/tyre_load_ratings.html A Galaxy is about 2500kgs which is 625kgs per wheel ... without any people/luggage etc. I always fit tyres with a load rating of 98 which have a load rating of 750kgs. What kind of Galaxy do you have that weighs in at 2.5 tonnes ?? Must be a Mk3 is it ? The Mk1 Galaxy has a kerb weight of 1645kg and 1858kg depending on the model The Mk2 Galaxy has a kerb weight of 1681kg and 1727kg depending on the model . The new Mk3s are heavier which is why they run 98 or 99 load index tyres as standard but the earlier Mk1 and Mk2s only need a 94 or 95 load index tyre

Once again , your comment proves that this particular tyre company havent the foggiest idea what they are talking about . All 18 inch tyres are NOT above the load rating required for a Galaxy....thats the stupidest comment Ive ever heard and if thats the advice this company are giving out , then they wouldnt get my business because they are WRONG!! 18 inch tyres can have a load rating starting at 88 , which is normal for your average car , say a Golf or a Focus (This load index tyre wont have reinforced sidewalls either). This is nowhere near high enough for a Galaxy , which requires at least a 94 index load rating and be marked "extra load" or "reinforced" . The lower rated tyre wont have strong enough sidewalls to carry the weight or the stress loads that will be exerted on the tyre by a Galaxy when cornering , braking or high speed motoring and it could fail with disasterous consequences. If your tyre company were to fit 88 rated load index tyres (or any tyre under the correct load index) to your Galaxy and you went out and had an accident , your insurance company would probably refuse to cover you if it was found that you had the incorrect tyres fitted to your car.

When I looked into fitting 18's on my mk1 a year or so back my local tyre fitting company said if I was to go for 18's then the tyres would be safe load wise as all 18's are heavy duty. Your tyre company doesnt know what theyre talking about . All tyres have a load index on them and Galaxy`s need a tyre with a minimum 94 load index and they need to be either reinforced or extra load also . Any 18 inch tyre , or any tyre for that matter , below this load index is simply not safe to have on a Galaxy .

If you have an auto , then you have a 115bhp version . Haynes dont do a manual for the Mk2 Im afraid .

Cam Belt Or Timming Chain ?
Ghia-X replied to thebavy's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
The Ford 2.3 engines have a timing chain  -
Check your fuses again . Have a look at Fuse 19 , its a small brown 5A fuse that controls the central locking . I recently had the same issues as you , loss of central locking , trip meter resetting itself , no flashing led in the door and it was that particular fuse that had blown . Replaced it and it all works now .

Sugarfree , if you are certain that you're getting improved mileage from your HHO system, here's an experiment for you to try... First, make sure you can turn your electrolysis cell off and on while driving. Now with the cell turned off, drive at a constant 60mph for a minute or two, so that the engine reaches a steady temperature. Don't use cruise-control, just use your foot to position the accelerator so your speed remains constant. Without moving your foot (the one on the accelerator), turn on your electrolysis cell. Now if all the claims for HHO are true, your engine will be developing 20%-30% more power than it did with the electrolysis cell turned off , so you should notice your speed increase to around 70-75mph as the HHO gas starts flowing. If you don't get this increase, then it's not working. Or you could do this the other way... Ensure your electrolysis cell is energized and drive along at a steady 60mph. Now turn off the cell without moving the accelerator up or down. Your engine's power should drop noticeably -- since the combustion efficiency will (according to the pro-HHO people) now be much lower than before. THis means your car should slow down quite noticeably -- perhaps to as little as 45mph. If you try these experiments and don't see the changes you should then you can be pretty sure that the fuel-efficiency you think your seeing is just the placebo effect or your engine's electronic management system being fooled into running your vehicle dangerously lean (with a high risk of damage).

Im pretty sure Isofix system was fitted after 2006 so you will have to find a post 2006 model Alhambra or Sharan to take the seats out of if you want the isofix option . The seats are all interchangeable so they will fit your Y reg Galaxy .

I had a windscreen smashed by some drunken yobs about 5 months ago and as the Galaxy wasnt insured at the time I paid for a replacement screen out of my own pocket . My Mk1 GhiaX heated screen cost me

Hi Mk1 door speakers are indeed 6.5" or 17cm , so anything that size should fit providing they arent too deep. You probably wouldnt get a 7" x 10" to fit without some major modifications to the metalwork and interior door trims.

Tyres For Replacement Alloys
Ghia-X replied to Bazza's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
235 / 40 x 18`s are the correct size and load index for the Galaxy / Sharan / Alhambra . Any smaller and you wont get the required load index and any wider and you may have clearance problems on the front when on full lock . Ive got 235 / 40s on the front of my Mk1 and 265 / 35 x 18`s on the rear and it drives spot on. -

If its happening even when you leave the handbrake off , then Your problem is likely to be caused by the outer cable allowing water to get inside and its freezing in the cold temperatures we have been having. The outer cable can split which allows moisture inside and it causes corrosion on the inner cable . Add to this the sub zero teperatures we have had and you can see that any moisture inside there will freeze whether the handbrake is on or off .

Im waiting to take delivery of a new 2.0 TDCi Titanium with the powershift box and have to say yes . Its much nicer than previous Autoboxes in Galaxys , is good to drive , pretty fast and supposed to be pretty good economy wise. Be prepared for a very long wait though if you are ordering new.....In July I was given a 12 week delivery time , but because of the demand for Galaxy and SMax 2.0 powershifts , they simply cant meet demand and delivery time has now been increased to 20 weeks . My dealer informed me that Ford were no longer taking orders for powershifts until they cleared the current backlog of orders. Good luck

For Sale - 18" Alloy Wheels And Tyres
Ghia-X replied to Ghia-X's topic in Cars and auto related items.
There have been no problems with the wheels whatsoever regarding rubbing . Even on full lock there is plenty of room between wheels and inner wheelarches and suspension components . :( -
Ive got a set of 18s for sale if you are interested . http://www.fordgalaxy.org.uk/ford/index.php?showtopic=21177 Other wheels that will fit are most Mercedes , most wheels from the VAG group including Audi , Skoda and VW . So long as they are a 5 x112mm PCD with a centre bore of 57.1mm and an ET35 - ET50 offset they will be ok. Mazda and Toyota rims are 5 x 114mm PCD so will not fit directly , but you can fit them using "wobble bolts" . I have a set of 20 inch alloys on my Mk1 Ghia X which are a Lexus fitment using these bolts.

I have a set of 18" innovit DTM alloys for sale These are the expensive set with staggered rears. stud pattern is 5x112, so will fit MOST audi's, newer vw's and mercs.
