  1. Sorry, meant to say that bargains are out there... Got my 1998 mkI for
  2. I had a blown rear light fuse last night and took another fuse (54) to replace it. Have replaced 54 now but assume the flashing is about all that. His do I clear the codes with vag com? Many thanks
  3. Hi, the glow plug light on my dash has started flashing after a few minutes of driving. Does anyone know what this means?? Thanks
  4. Yes, I guess that may be. But the normal cigarette lighter 12v is also not working. They may be linked to the same fuse - where would u find that ?
  5. No, there are 12v and USB outlets there
  6. Hi, anyone know where the fuses are for the cigarette lighter and 12v power in glove box? (1998 galaxy tdi)? Thanks for any help
  7. Got the MAF replaced and the problem is fixed!! Part was
  8. I had very similar symptoms and fixed it with a new MAF. Try unplugging it first to see if problem improves. If it does it's the MAF. See my previous topic
  9. Unplugged the MAF and got a good improvement. Was able to get to 3000 revs in each gear! So I guess that's a big guilty sign for the MAF. Btw I have to make a 300 mile round trip tomorrow - will driving with the MAF disconnected do any harm? (Obviously will get MAF replaced ASAP after)
  10. Tried to do a search for maf but the search was denied because the word was less than 4 characters long...
  11. Am trying to get to bottom of a problem that's been getting progressively worse with my mk1 galaxy tdi. To start with it was just sluggish up hills but now is all the time. Even getting speed to pull out of junction can be dodgy. Am thinking of replacing the MAF and wonder does anyone know whether a faulty one would cause permanent power loss. No readings from vagcom. Is there a way to test the MAF? Thanks for any thoughts
  12. Hello again, my mechanic had it for a couple of days and said he didn't think the timing was out. I don't know if he actually opened it up but he said that he thought that there would be white smoke all the time if the timing was out and not just on starting. I'm going to replace the temp gauge and see if that improves the starting. With regard the slowness up hills could the problem be a choked up fuel filter maybe?
  13. Thanks - I'll get onto my friendly mechanic!
  14. PS - if I don't address the timing issue (if is that) will it possibly damage the engine? Or will starting in the winter become even more difficult?
