Engine Stalling
Charliemuttley replied to mickyt's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hi, bit late i'm sure but that is the key programming- have that problem with my spare key- try another key. Anyway thought i shoud say. Charlie -
If your rear pads have gone (grinding noise) then your hand brake wouldn't work anyway. Try pumping brakes and see if the pedal holds pressure- if it holds then just a caliper/pad problem. If it doesn't then it is a master cylinder problem.

Air-con Evaporator Replacement?
Charliemuttley replied to Charliemuttley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Yes i am afraid so, we tried to pull a vacuum and it wouldn't hold, then put a bit of gas in to find leak and definately came from evaporator. IS IT REALLY THAT HARD TO CHANGE????? -_- -
Air-con Evaporator Replacement?
Charliemuttley replied to Charliemuttley's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I only know i have that leak because when gased up you can hear hissing from the dash and i have replaced everything else in the system because it was knackered, so hell why not finish the job properly!! Cheers -
Hi guys, just wondered how involved it is to replace evaporator in mark 1 Galaxy. Have just changed pipes, compressor, condensor and drier and now have a leak in the evaporator! I have done all work myself and am keen to finish. I AM THE IDIOT THAT PUT THE SIERRA ENGINE IN HIS GALAXY!!! HOW HARD CAN IT BE???????

Have you investigated the knock??? Is it worth breaking or fixing- have you done big end bearings in?- run low on oil- or is it the car that knocks- suspension- ball joints???

How Long Does A Clutch Last ?
Charliemuttley replied to chevron169's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
BLIMEY!! Good on you for not letting the women drive them!!   :D -
Midget will be on soon...... got the Golf Synchro as the donor and the turbo unit.....have just about finished restoring shell and started building space frame for Golf front subframe. Only issue is finding shocks small enough to make the towers sit under the wings. But i shall persevere!!!   :D :D

If you phone your local motor factors they will tell you from your number plate. The 2.0 Ford use 5/30 which i very thin, but i'm afraid i don't know what the VR6 uses off the top of my head.

Worn Rear Tyres Inside Edge
Charliemuttley replied to a topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
I will check my Galaxy tommorrow to see if it is similar design but with the Mondeo's this happens a lot because "monkey" mechanics (or tyre fitters) jack the back end up on the tie bars, which then bend and cause the rear wheels to toe-out, therefore causing bald inner edges. Will let you know. -
How Long Does A Clutch Last ?
Charliemuttley replied to chevron169's topic in General Discussion and Nonsense
Obviously depends on how you drive it!!! But i would say you will need one soon and when the clutch is done you should do the hydraulic release bearing too. It's not to bad a job to drop engine and box. <_< -
Remote Keys Lost
Charliemuttley replied to andy115's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
If it is the same as the 2.0 Galaxy you can buy the transponder keys on ebay for about -
Cheers for that mate....BUT................................................ I now have fitted sierra engine into Galaxy!! Decided to carry on in my mighty quest and it wasn't too bad! I ended up having to swap the cylinder heads over and that solved quite a few problems. I did have to re-drill the dipstick hole and change a few main cap bolts and cover plates and stuff, but all in all not too bad. My only slight concern is the Galaxy pistons have a small dish in them and the sierra ones didn't, but i pressume that will just increase compression a bit??? Anyway.....IT CAN BE DONE........ ...BUT I WOULDN'T RECOMMEND IT UNLESS YOU ARE DESPERATE!!!!!! I thank you..... <_<

Not worth putting sierra back together as i cut it out quite quickly- sold the wheels for more than i paid for car, plus have a buyer for the gearbox!! What i am now doing is taking crank, con-rods, pistons and cams out of sierra engine because i know they are good and transplanting into Galaxy castings!!That is providing neither have had rebores and that a good hone will clean up bores. Mad i know but what's a bit of labour, besides engine re-con is loads more. If i have to i will rebore with new pistons. Anyway thought i would put the age old theory to rest on this site.

Ok, so i decided to take my Galaxy engine out and a Sierra engine out and put them side by side and start swapping the bits over. First problem- three out of seven holes no cast for the pump mounting casting, thought ok could fabricate a bracket. Second problem- had to change cam box cover, remove dizzy cap and rotor arm and change plate on end- ok. Third problem- Mmmmmm dipstick in wrong place-DAMN!!! Thought could drill if necessary, so lets see what else. Fourth problem- thermostat housing on head not there- take out core plug, drill and tap-ok. Fifth problem- The MOTHER of all problems- took off inlet manifold only to find the head is totally different!!! Boll*$ks!! Game over. Just thought i would let you all know once and for all as nobody seemed to know (or if they did know they weren't telling anyone on this forum!)

Apparently females aren't proven more cautious it is just that when a man has a crash he wants to take out as many cars as he can and cause as much damage as he can!! :D

Sorry to drag up an old thread, but i am looking at throwing a sierra lump in my Galaxy and still don't know whether it will fit- my question is what "gasket" are you talking about????
