its a 2006 (56) TDI 170bhp mk 2 is t likely to just be a lock out?

I have read loads about failed and failing aux heater glow plugs, and was sure that this was the problem with my wifes galaxy. However i removed the heater, took it apart and looked at the glow plug. I then put current through it and it glowed red hot. anoyingly the heater still doesn't kick in through the cold weather. Where do i look now? Please help as the wife is fairly miffed having no heater in the car with the snow all around!

i have a 55 plate galaxy tddi 150bhp and it keeps forgetting the remote key. I have changed the batteries in the key, and then re-paired the key. It works fine for about 2 hours, then it forgets the pairing and i have to re do it. Any thoughts?
