No - all original CD's used AND today the radio suddenley demanded the code to be inserted before it would play - good job I knew it. Is there a link I wonder. Still its weekend play time if I'm allowed so will have to see what else I cn discover.

Yes checked all discs are the right way up. Checked the cartridge is the right way round. Ive wobbled it as it searches . Ive unplugged it and re plugged it but still no joy. By the way would it still check to see if it had CD's if it was not plugged into the head properly? I wanted to check I wasn't being completely dumbo before I took the whole thing back to the dealers who sold the car as I have this fear they would just press a button with a smug smile and say 'there you go' as it burst into life !!!! But if you guys cannot assist I may have to - either that or get an ebay deal. Incidentally thanks for the damp idea - not thought of that - but its as dry as a Methodists Tea Party :)

I have just bought a brilliant 2001 (Y) plate Ghia 1.9Tdi with a 5000 radio fitted. Ford CD Changer fitted in rear off side cubby hole. When I select CD on the radio panel the changer whizzies and whirls and appears to 'read' the 6 CD's in the cartridge because thats what it says on the radio panel - but then continues to just 'read' and display 1 thru 6. In other words it won't play a darn thing. Looked inside changer - no blockages - no stuck CD's it just doesnt seem to grab a CD and play it. Is it knackered or can it be reset?
