  1. Ok, thanks for those tips. So far I have managed to change the glow plugs, fuel and air filter, and reconnected the plugs to the wiring loom, although that looks a little sorry having delaminated. Glow light on for a good few seconds, rather than the blink of an eye like before, Now the sorry bit, no immediate start up as I expected, although I had detached a vacuum return pipe and it sucked a bit, so I thought it was just air in the system. After quite a bit of cranking and some easy start she fired up, and seemed to settle down alright. Went for a test run, and a bit of italian tuning to clear the pipes I thought all was well. Still a problem with loss of power after lifting off the throttle, although this clears if I let the revs drop to idle then I can accelerate again. Have to drop the revs, otherwise theres clouds of smoke and no power.Parked up and switched off. Started again just fine immediately. After cooling down a while, now wont start and sounds very lumpy cranking. Eventually started with more easy start. What may be going wrong. 1 have read that a dirty EGR can cause the power loss, so am preparing to get to that and clean it, also thinking maybe its the turbo actuator arm sticking on deceleration. Would this affect starting? 2 Second possibility is of course that the head gasket is blown, although haven't experienced any over heating or loss of coolant or sludgy /milky oil. Replacement plugs are NGK, and looked about a couple of mm longer, not same as others, but as these were extremely worn, even with cracks on them, I wondered if this was normal, as I got the plugs from a dealer who looked up the P/n from the catalogue. I'm pretty sure they're all seated properly. I'm at a loss now. Does it sound like the head gasket? or is there something else more straightforward I can do to fix it. Having spent money on brakes and tyres, and service items, I'm reluctant to cut and run, so I hope someone on here can help me out
  2. Likewise, and my garage said it was the air bag, only they were having probs after there diagnostic kit upgrade
  3. 1996 1.9 TD Hi, jsut got the new glow plugs to change, and now the bus bar end has shatterd. Can i get another one of these easy, and does any one have a part nunber or do I have to go to Ford. Now the rest I cant separatet the air filter box... any tips on this? Apart from cold start probs, which will be fix when I get the new busbar and change plugs hopefully, I notice a drop off in power, almost flat, when decelerate, and cloud of smoke, blue white ish but very dieselly, as if too much has been metered. Engine picks up after I dip clutch and rev, when smoke appears, then off we go again fine as. I notice threads about MAF sensor, is this above the pipe behind air filter box? When I disconnect still same thing. Must I reconnect it for good? I already just change fuel filter, and use some injector cleaner, which maybe help. Have not driven too far/hard yet Any tips out there, I hope so Thanks Phil
  4. 1996 1.9 TD 225000+mi Been going through this lot wide eyed, and new I'd found the solutioni.....BUT when I took the cable connector off one of the glow plugs it shattered!!! Is this only a Ford main dealer part.?..I have no idea what its even called.... Plus, I am struggling to get the air filter cover off to change the air filter. Apart from not wanting to start now its cold.( I have glow plugs ready to change when I source the top joining cable) when I do get going its mostly fine, but then power drops off, most noticeably when I decelerate, but also sometimes on motorway, although I think I am lifting off the pedal a bit then. Seems to go fine, still maintaining cruise speed, after I dip clutch and rev a little.... but there is then a big cloud of smoke for a short burst. I have just changed the fuel filter, and noticed a difference, but still puffy occassionally. Have also just put injector cleaner in tank. I read some bits about the MAF sensor, is this the plug on top of the pipe behind the air filter? I have removed it temporarily, but still getting drop off and smoke. Should I keep it connected? Any help much appreciated Phil
