Ok, thanks for those tips. So far I have managed to change the glow plugs, fuel and air filter, and reconnected the plugs to the wiring loom, although that looks a little sorry having delaminated. Glow light on for a good few seconds, rather than the blink of an eye like before, Now the sorry bit, no immediate start up as I expected, although I had detached a vacuum return pipe and it sucked a bit, so I thought it was just air in the system. After quite a bit of cranking and some easy start she fired up, and seemed to settle down alright. Went for a test run, and a bit of italian tuning to clear the pipes I thought all was well. Still a problem with loss of power after lifting off the throttle, although this clears if I let the revs drop to idle then I can accelerate again. Have to drop the revs, otherwise theres clouds of smoke and no power.Parked up and switched off. Started again just fine immediately. After cooling down a while, now wont start and sounds very lumpy cranking. Eventually started with more easy start. What may be going wrong. 1 have read that a dirty EGR can cause the power loss, so am preparing to get to that and clean it, also thinking maybe its the turbo actuator arm sticking on deceleration. Would this affect starting? 2 Second possibility is of course that the head gasket is blown, although haven't experienced any over heating or loss of coolant or sludgy /milky oil. Replacement plugs are NGK, and looked about a couple of mm longer, not same as others, but as these were extremely worn, even with cracks on them, I wondered if this was normal, as I got the plugs from a dealer who looked up the P/n from the catalogue. I'm pretty sure they're all seated properly. I'm at a loss now. Does it sound like the head gasket? or is there something else more straightforward I can do to fix it. Having spent money on brakes and tyres, and service items, I'm reluctant to cut and run, so I hope someone on here can help me out
