It sure addled my brains but i didnt want to say in case you blamed it on me being female! :o But i see where you going vr6galaxy....im addicted to this site and love reading all the banter and as you say"pi55 taking" :D I especially like the diesel vs petrol debates.(i prefer diesels! )... If the original poster has only ever had a couple of problems with his car then hes a lucky boy.But i would have thought that he would have contacted fraud about his radio codes rather than search for soneone to help get the codes. We all have to be careful these days with technology stepping up all the time..so i feel it only right to go to the manufaturer for help if codes are lost. BUT...i also see the other side of the coin where the bods that be know that we may on occasion lose these codes and then charge an arm and a leg to to help. But in our case...ford charged nothing.Whether that is a rarity i dont know as weve never lost the code since.

I would but at the moment he is the only one who can drive it as no one would touch me insurance wise on a provisional licence! Come 3rd feb tho.......its mine.. :D (of course that is under the assumption that i pass my test on that date!! ) But what you said is very true...if it had of been me that had done it im sure his reaction to the damage would have been very different! :o -

I must admit that hubby blasted me after hed read what id written :o so i told him that it was his fault that the car is falling apart..think i won that argument. Yes i do store stuff but it is usually boxes and yoghurt pots for the kids art at school!! This wing mirror has been floating around for a while now and we may get posted soon so i thought now would be the time to get rid of it as once that baby is mine nothing will happen to it!! :o -

Ok.so what can i reasonably put this mirror up for then on e-bay?. Been having a looksie and sum are up for -
I see where you coming from.the newest haynes manual does not cover galaxys 2001+.so the TIS cd is my only other option apart from parting with a load of cash to a garage!!.i feel that if it is within my capabilities i want to fix what i can. As for radio codes, i did not know that you could get software or get the codes over the internet.I presumed like my hubby that you had to go thru Ford to retrieve a code you had lost. We didnt have to pay for it when we did this...just prove ownership of the car which is what i think you should do anyway.

So does that mean all the TIS cds an e-bay are illegal????..I was looking to get one but im not so sure now.

I replaced the main fuse feed box and the garage sorted the loom.As that was something i knew nothing about at that time.Hope tthis helps. Our loom had melted as the problem had gone on 4 a while...but if yours has only just happened ,just replacing the black box may work.Takes a couple of mins to remove the box and a couple of mins to replace.I took the box with me when i went to ford as it had the part number on it. :)

Right.....before our car came to a total standstill and cost 156 to repair...i had a look under the bonnet as we had all the lights flashing in the dash and various (practically all)warning lights were on.I was on the phone to my dads who used to be a mechanic and he sed to check all fuses first.the car would start but after a while it would just die..even at revs it would die.so i checked the main fuse feed box which in our car is a little black box under the bonnet.in that box is a fuse which has a big black cable leading from it.the fuse for that cable had blown and had been arcing.as a consequence the box melted a wee bit and metal had fused together!! then it wouldnt even catch after i had replaced the main fuse feed box(cost about

Mind you....i do lift the bonnet to check all the various fluid levels and to check the oil as hubby seems to be incapable of doing it!!.last time i checked the oil there was none in it!!hes a pleb sometimes.

Yes i am running on windows XP...i know the feeling of running round constantly in circles with 4 kids!! Never ending. ;) .Im beginning to think that this is going to be one big challenge to overcome now! ;) .Not sure what im letting myself in for...but..someone has to look after our car...hubby just drives it.But he has promised me that when i pass my test i can do all thr driving THEN i can lift the bonnet. From what ive read i dont have to lift the bonnet to use vag com so he cant blast me for it!! ;) :o ;)

Something like this happened to our car and it turned out the the alternator fudse had gone and it had generated enough heat to melt the box/and also a loom further on down the wire....forgot to say welcome to our little forum..loads of friendly helpful faces here. do a search for the main feed fuse box..may help.
-
Was it the alternator fuse in the main fuse feed box under the bonnet?
-
Hmmmmmmmmmmmm.......well..........guess i hadnt thought of that. ;) How long are the leads? ;) I could zip the car onto the front lawn..(reversing of course)...guess id better make sure the sensors are on so i dont hit the house and hubby find out ive moved the car... ;) ...then i could balance the pc on the window ledge....,no that wont work...guess ill have to set up the pc by the front door as i do have avery long extension cable and a 12foot extension cable for the phone.. :o ...Hmmmmmmmmmmm..What you think...yup..ill make it work!!!i dont give in to little challengeds like this.....but do i need to get the cable b4 i download vc?
-
Ok, now i feel silly  ..Its the label on the interface cable isnt it...just had a look at their vagcom pro kit...shows the interface cable with the big sticker on it.! ;) So i guess i need to get a cable first then.....am i right?? ;)
-
AHA!!...so..you can download VAG-COM free fron Ross-Tech. ;) .Read another thread that says you can.(many thanx..sorry but i am horrendus with names!)...now just have to figure out which interface.. .i take it it means computer wise???..or do i need to get the cable first??..if computer i know i have usb ports..and an integrated network interface on it...but i see no numbers or letters on the sticker on my tower! ;)

I know that when we lost our radio code....hubby went to the local ford garage when we lived in scotland and they were very helpful, had to prove ownership of the car first tho.We got the code and never got charged for it!!
