  1. hi, i just changed my additional water pump (coolant run on pump) as i no longer heard the faint humm after switching ignition off, also aux heater wasn't starting up. this is the second one in 4 years. anyhow the aux heater still isn't coming on. do i need any faults clearing via vagcom. As said before i changed the last one myself and heater started straight up. Also have had 3 glowplugs fitted over the years and wasn't any need for vagcom. i am just trying to rule this out before forking out for another glowplug. but there wasn't the usual bellowing out of smoke from a dying glowplug this time. this is why i am hoping it is just a fault error that needs resetting. does anyone know any decent vagcom specialists aroung burnley/blackburn way. thanks
  2. hi, could be the coolant run on pump as mine had similar symptoms but without the smoke. after switching off the engine listen out for a faint whirring noise coming from the middle of the scuttle area. or check from the engine bay, the pump is near the fuel filter. it should run on for a couple of mins after switching engine off.
  3. hi, just bought some link bars from local motor factor (
  4. is it normal for a 1.9 tdi 115 bhp 02 plate to drop 20 miles of normal fuel consumption to a tenner. i put
  5. bleeno's right, i have same prob, took it garage and the mechanic told me to turn steering whilst he listened from outside. it was coming from left hand side wheel area, he said one of the bushes was dry on the shock. the problem is getting to it to grease the bugger-still havent got round to doing mine yet
  6. being the half brain that i am, can u please explain what you mean by the timing should have been reset. surely when replacing t.belt they set it to where it should be
  7. my sharan had done 97000 miles, apparantely mechanic reckons water pump bearings seized up which broke a cog in half which in turn broke the water pump housing unit and snapped the belt which in turn snapped my purse strings when he presented me with the bill
  8. hi, water pump failed the other week which in turn snapped the timing belt and therefore caused damage to the head (ie valves etc.) local garage fixed it, but i wondered if skimming the head would cause power loss. in the week it was being fixed i was using my dads car and since getting mine back i had an inkling that engine seemed slightly less responsive, but could this be me getting used to dads petrol car?
  9. thanks for the replies, managed to sort the problem out, put the fuse in another slot and all okay. the slot for the rear window demister is empty now but the the thing works. fuse layout card is a load of tosh
  10. hi, decided to get the coolant circulation pump checked as the familiar humming sound after engine shut off disappeared also aux heater had been playing up. anyway took it to a independent garage whose 'bread and butter' comes from servicing vw and audis. they could not find a fault and said they would not charge, i thought great no loss. however when driving home a fuse fell out onto my foot. got home checked what wasnt working turned out to be rear window demister. after putting fuse back in it still does not work just a clicking sound fom fusebox. also found out central locking not working, same clicking sound. also when pulling the fuses out, checking them, i must have pulled a main fuse out because it made a clicking sound when it came out and i had to put radio code back in and the trip computer had reset to zero including the miles left on fuel indicator which oesnt read properly now according to the fuel gauge needle which is working fine. have i bust a relay do i need to reset something to align the digital reading of miles left with the fuel gauge needle thanks
  11. hi all, my aux heater is only coming on for 20 secs at a time, with no smoke and only a faint ticking of the fuel metering pump. shes taking forever to warm up. any ideas.
  12. thanks you could be right, i'll get it checked out
  13. had a bump in the sharan couple of months ago, so it went to the dealers for repair to bonnet and bumper. when it came back to me there was a dent in the sill next to where the aux heater sits. reported it to them and they accepted liability (caused by the jig apparently). Anyway when i got it back again aux heater is not working properly and temp is taking forever to get up. The heater comes on for about 30 seconds and then stops, the exhaust gets warm, theres no smoke (used to get quite a bit before) every now and again i can hear it coming on but only in short bursts. I also noticed that coolant level was down about half a litre which has never happened before. Dealers changed air con rad and a ac pipe could this have anything to do with the loss of coolant or is it completely separate. I told dealers and they said they would have a look at it, but when i took it to them they didn't know what a aux heater was or what it did. they said they used a slide hammer to pull the dent out. i dont know how they use one could this have damaged any pipes to the aux heater which were directly behind the dent. I am more worried about loss of coolant than aux heater now as i read some posts about the head going and costing thousands. Calling on all u experts out there, and i know there are plenty to ease my mind . thanks
  14. answer to oiginal question for gearbox code of the 6 sp manual is the one starting with fux
  15. sorry for not making myself clear, i got 50 miles less for the amount i put in. i put 55 quid in and expected 485 miles as i get 90 miles to a tenner normally. when i put 55 quid in, the price of diesel was a couple of pence cheaper as well. i drive an sharan 02 plate. could the aux heater be running a bit rich on fuel?
