Had a new timing belt fitted yesterday by Ford dealer. Everything was fine before the work. However, since collecting the car there is a sort of ' hunting ' when ticking over as the engine revs rise and fall slightly. Also when moving of from standstill it feels as if hestitating or holding back and then goes fine. I have looked for loose electrical connections and damaged hoses but can't see a reason for the problem. Anyone had such a problem following belt replacement? Any advice or pointer to check would be much appreciated. KF..

The explained method always works for me. But is there also a simple method to take a few thousand miles off my display? Something like 80,000 would be nice. KF

Has anyone used 16'' wheels from other vehicles on their Galaxy? I have the chance of a set of Mercedes 5 stud alloys and also a set of Volvo 5 stud alloys. Any news of direct replacements would be appreciated. Thanks. KF

Can someone tell me the best area to feed a cable through the bulkhead from inside the car to the engine compartment? Also, where is the best place to take a 12 volt auxillary feed from inside the car ? Thanks in advance for any advice. KF

Thanks for the info.. I was told that the vin plate is just a sticker and might have been removed. However the local Ford dealer identified the colour ( Satin Silver) from the chassis number viewed through the lower N/S part of the windscreen . They are no help with the paint code though. So, I ordered the Ford aerosol kit. Just got to wait 5 days for Ford Parts to deliver:(

I have a 2001 Galaxy 1.9 tdi which is described as Grey although it does look silverish to me . Need to find a paint code and can't find the VIN plate on the B pillar passenger side or drivers side , but found a label in the rear compartment housing the jack etc. The label reads as follows:- 7MO 864988 C R31 PT >CO+PF< From that info can anyone tell me which might be the paint code please? Thanks in advance. KF

Time To Check Your Boosters Boys And Girls

My Aux heater failed earlier this year so I must get round to finding the fault before the weather starts to bite. Is the mini fuse you mention in the bank of fuses above the drivers footwell? I suspect an electrical supply fault as there is no life at all from the heater motor. I have had white smoke in the past when it was working as if the glow plug failed to ignite the fuel vapour so I don't suspect the glow plug giving my problem. Is it possible the temp sensor for the aux heater, that is supposed to be located near the wiper mechanism could be in another position as I can't see it in the area it's supposed to be? The car is a 2001 1.9 tdi. Maybe it would be an idea to run a new cable to the heater unit to test it? Any advice appreciated. KF. -
Brake pad warning light remains on after replacing worn front pads and topping up brake fluid. The old pads had quite a bit of life left on them even though the carbon wiring contact was making a circuit which I believed was the cause for the warning light to come on in the first place. I have driven a number of miles on the new pads and also tried disconnecting battery and re-connecting to see if any sensor resets but to no avail. Any advice much appreciated as usual. KF

Ok.. I will make a point of picking a set up when near your tyre stores and keep them until needed. My car does on average 1000 miles a week. Not in a straight line of course:) Then add the ''no national speed limit'' element and we do tend to be hard on the front tyres anyway. Yes, you guessed. It's a taxi...

Thanks.. Yes, good tyre prices but the cost of carriage to the Isle of Man at

Can anyone recommend a dealer selling tyres online? Ringing the local tyre suppliers ( here on the Isle of Man ) all start around

Auxillary heater stopped working after being fine for months. I am trying to locate the temp sensor and bridge the terminals. I believed this sensor was near the n/s wiper arm. Nothing seen in that area. In fact the only wired items are the screen wash nozzles. Any idea where I should be looking? It's a 2001 Tdi .. By the way, the fuse is OK.. If the glow plug was suspect would the heater unit still attempt to start for a few seconds? Thanks for any advice. KF

Can you see the lamp unit pulsing as if it's sticking or fouling on something? That at least means there is current getting to the unit . My offside lamp stuck in it's high position but after checking motor connections and a little manual push it works fine again..

Outside Temp Display?
Manxman replied to Manxman's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
My display shows 'door ajar', 'low fuel' , 'handbrake on', 'oil warning' etc so does it mean I should have the outside temp and ice warning display too? Those symbols all appear in the top half of the display . If I wanted access to the back of the display unit is it easy to get in there? Does the curved panel above the clocks lift away for access? -
Should my car ( 2001 TDi Ford Galaxy ) have an external temp display as part of the screen between the two dials on the dash unit? The handbook suggests there should be a temp display but the book covers different models .. If there should be one and nothing appears, could it be a backlight bulb problem? Compliments of the season to all the wise men and women on this forum. Keith ..

Hello. I had a new MAF fitted by the local Ford dealer just over a month ago due to serious lack of power. That was just after having bought the car. I have always felt it lacked power when moving off from Stop junctions and wonder if a NEW AMF was ever fitted as when I asked for the old unit I was told '' Sorry, they are an exchange item from Ford and has to obviously go back. Has anyone here found them to be exchange ? Just today with a temp of 5 deg C, I needed to reverse up a slope when motor was still cold and power was seriously lacking. Much better when warmed up , but wonder if the MAF could still be the problem. Are they known to have intermittent faults? Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks in advance. KF

This problem has happened twice today. When stationary with engine ticking over at traffic lights or stop sign I see smoke coming from the offside rear wheel arch with the smell of unburnt fuel. I switch off the engine and restart to cure it . It is very intermittent. Is there some form of exhauster in the wheel arch area? Any advice on what needs to be done to put it right will be much appreciated.

Flashing Warning Light
Manxman replied to mrunlucky's topic in Ford Galaxy Technical Section MK I MK II
Hello. I just became a Galaxy owner 2 weeks ago and am happy to stumble across this forum as I am sure to need your help and advice on occasions. Just to shed a little light ( pardon the pun) on the flashing glow plug light malfunction, it seems the glow plug flashing indicates a fault on the electrical system. The petrol engine versions show a pic of an engine unit. I had a problem which I discovered to be a faulty airflow meter with the help of a small garage nearby, whereas the main ford dealer insisted there were no faults on my car because the glow plug lamp was not flashing. The symptoms were very poor torque and having to change down the gears to regain some sort of power. The part will arrive Monday so I hope it gives the otherwise perfect car a boost. Oh, has anyone tried one of these chips as seen on ebay to apparently boost the power of a 115ps galaxy to 140ps? Maybe not worth the risk ? All the best. KF
