Hi folks, my drivers window stopped working, irritatingly enough in the partially down position. First checked all the fuses, all ok. next take off the door card and check the switches, all ok, can hear some relays ticking on and off when i try to operate the other windows from the drivers console. Disconect the plug and socket on the motor and the other windows function. Strange. Much head scratching, cant find the relays, handbook mentions level 2, are they behind the fuses in which case how on earth do you get to them? More head scratching. Halfords dont do the Haynes 1.9 TDi ghia, and they are pricy books anyway. So, saturday evening I find this little gem of a website with lots of very very similar faults all pointing to the loom in the gator between the A pillar and the door. So its relatively easy to get the connector apart and lo and behold six broken cables. Solder and heatshrink, then the bastard bit trying to get the plug and socket back together. My 10 year old lad was curled up in the footwell trying to hold the socket in place, Eldest son holding the door partially closed and me huffing and puffing trying to get the plug engaged. FAIL ! Solution - take the door off. Hinges are locked in position by 6.5mm a/f grubs, undo the 10mm a/f pin door restraint, lift the door straight up and lower onto a beer crate. Easy to get the plug back then drop the door back in place. Careful, its heavy! Reconnect battery negative lead then consume beer from recently released beer crate. I can only add that the Ford designer that put this together ought to be shot. Hope this thread helps someone. :)
